Hi everyone, I have this issue since day 1, from what I remember: Some high res terrain textures are loaded only when very close, can also be unloaded while being visible, and they are unloaded once not visible and need to be reloaded when the terrain is visible again. This does not happen so often, but it is quite systematic on northern territories, like Svalbard or Alaska (see link below).
Try flying around a photogrammetry city and see what results you can get. Do you get error messages for low bandwidth if you do? Seems like you are flying in an area that already has limited and poor satellite imagery. Curious to see what results you will get in an area with higher quality data available. There could be a few different causes for your issues. Flying in a photogrammetry city like Rome or London could narrow it down.
Yes, it’s frequent near the poles, but I also saw textures loading/unloading around the plane in Honolulu, on water texture. New textures are loaded within a circle around the plane, and unloaded as the plane moves on. Great if the issue has already been recorded, I didn’t find it by myself.
I don’t have any issue with photogrammetry, or bandwidth. But you are absolutely right about satellite imagery: I checked on bing maps and Svalbard is not entirely covered with high res imagery, and low res imagery matches what I see in MSFS… I though this kind of issue was fixed in world updates, this is not the case. Too bad I love so much northern landscapes
Note that tools provided within the wiki page don’t work for me (either on edge or chrome browser) but at least we have an overal map of the resolution used in various places of the world.
And below, a scientific study of high res imagery coverage of the earth, covering both bing and google earth services, with more accurate and recent data: https://www.mdpi.com/2073-445X/7/4/118/htm
