Keeping us on topic as i have posted in another thread about this as well. Just did a flight last night with 2 friends. Ontario to reno. Lost 30min+sim to real time. Had two friends flying with me. One on pc-no issues. One was on xbox series x (streaming through game pass not 4k tv) no issues. Then me. I was flying the 787 at mach .89 and they were toasting me flying .70. I landed over 10 min after them due to this sim rate issue and was flying significantly faster according to the sim. So effen frustrating. Yes i use a series x, with fligjt sim being only game installed on hard drive. 4k lg tv with the 120 refresh.
Update from me. Even though I said I had quit I am back for some more punishment. I purchased the Flysimware C414 Chancellor to to try something different. I flew from a smaller regional airport near Los Angeles to another small regional. Sillky smooth no lost time , a great experience.
I have however fixed the Xbox settings to 60hz which I think has helped. I am wondering if the problem presents itself more in the aircraft with more advanced avionics when combined with more complex airports it triggers a slow down.
By the way, once it has slowed down, I have never observed it speeding back up. Once you lose that few seconds every minute, then that is your SIM rate for the rest of the flight.
Steve
I’ve seen it speed up again, documented it somewhere above. Yes I think it just gets overloaded and can’t keep up. The complex glass screens seem to make it worse. Now on a good PC I’ve not had this issue happen.
That’s the problem, the sim’s so good you just have to put up with the failures and carry on.
Unfortunately this isn’t true of others. Personally, I’ve radically reduced my sim time over the many issues in this product, and I’ve seen others on these forums and elsewhere on social media do the same.
I did my first long haul flight after confirming that the Xbox stays “awake” when the controller is plugged in to the console with a USB cable. So, I planned a 12 hour flight on the 747 (awesome to fly now that it has been fixed); Frankfurt to LAX. I started the in-game stopwatch on takeoff, and when I landed it showed just shy of the planned 12 hours… in the real world a total of 18-19 hours had passed. The sim had not been paused at any time. That’s how much slower the sim rate is on the Xbox Series X, and I suspect that it’s due to the lack for CPU power running the background simulation.
Yep exactly. Why one would be as stupid as to do a calculation of time within an application rather to derive everything from a central clock (be it in HW or calling a time server) I don’t know. All I know is that the time in fs2020 seems to be even more dilated than even Einstein postulated?!
Because in case someone decides to use the sim rate (2x, 4x, etc) the whole simulator needs to compress or dilate time, in order to keep you on time, when you decide to go back to 1x sim rate.
And even if a Time server is used as the starting point of reference, when your sim is not capable to follow the amount of refresh needed, everything slow down. You have a slow frame rate, slow loading textures, an aircraft stuttering AAAAAAND the time is afected.
When everything goes slow on the sim, the sim “think” you are on 0.5X sim rate and you clock goes slow.
But … this is only a possible explanation. The bug is there, and needs to be fixed.
I tried the 120hz down to 60 and it didnt seem to help a thing for me. Granted when making the switch now dolby vision kicks in so who knows. Not really trying to tell my box i dont have a 4k tv to see if that helps. Kinda of like having a ferrari and telling me i have to drive it like it is a minivan just to see if it fixes the issue. Only saving grace is i am working on a multi leg flight in the kodiak 100 from japan to new zealand. Somehow that plane is unaffected. I think as some folks on here have mentioned earlier about the technical issues causing this it isnt the xbox’s computing power that is causing this issue. I read miltiple posts that the backup hsi in the kodiak is very system performance sapping and they talk about pulling breakers to improve its performance. The xbox series x can handle it perfectly with everything functional.
I have the same problem on my XSX and it’s EXTREMELY annoying when flying with a group of PC users online, which I do many times a week as I end up landing way behind everyone else.
I’ve logged a bug and hopefully this gets fixed soon as its been going on for months and I’m sure some of the PC users were convinced I was doing something wrong on my end.
Decided to do a little homework. Not sure if this forum helps relay this message but this whole time issue with the xbox began back in February. I checked the dates in my logbook. I first noticed what seemed like my friend “teleported” in front of me out of the blue on 2/4. Then 100% i know the issue was present as we were flying the same aircraft on 2/7-2/10 onward. The weather properly loading was an update around this time I remember. However, if microsoft/asobo digs into updates/changes during that timeframe, hopefully it can help zero in on the issue.
Well that ties in with the first bug report for sure. Did you fly the SU12 beta? If so that could be the introduction point. If you don’t fly betas then AAU1 aligns with your date.
To add some more info on this bug.
See previous posts here about the timer tests (using NAVLOG) I did with a PC flyer and the XSX running at nearly half the time when we were both using the HJET.
Did the same test today when I was flying the stock standard King Air and the time was exactly the same as the PC user.
I checked with another Xbox user who regularly flies with PC users and has never noticed the problem and confirmed that he never flies the more complex planes like the CJ4, HJET and ATR (these are the planes I fly where I notice the [problem)
Gents
When I think back it was after the AAU1 update or SU12 that it started.
Flying the C414, avionics on GNS530 only, so way more simple I guess.
I have flown several flights and it’s smooth and on time.
TBM, VisionJet, CJ4 I have slow downs almost always.
How do we get Asobo to at least acknowledge there is a problem ?
Thanks
Steve
Agreed.
I noticed this issue in early February, shortly after the AAU1.
You could try PM to moderators to ask them if it can be upgraded to bug logged, it clearly is a real bug.
Well all of you who are smarter than i are welcome to include me in your PM to them. I would be happy to support getting this issue resolved. In response to posts above. I do not partake in the beta’s so it would have been a standard update. I am very confident in the date range where this started as i usually fly with friends on the same route in the same planes so it is easy to spot the issue. At least the last time we attempted, the c 414 for me was affected by the issue. The only plane I own that I have discovered to not be affected or at least barely affected is the kodiak 100.
I use the Xbox series X with the premium edition of the game installed. LG 4k OLED TV. And just incase, my internet is 1G so connection speed should have no negative impact.
Krakdad, where are flying usually ?
I have been going around LA but smaller airports and it’s been ok in the C414.
I have not tried Europe yet.
Wondering if the issue shows up more depending on where you fly.
Steve
Oh dear. So I set up a flight from EGBB to France. C414 and as soon as I get set up prior to taxi I can see that the clock seconds are ticking a little slow. So once again I get the lost 8 seconds so for one min in the aircraft , 1 min 8 seconds passes in real time. The SIM rate is slow again.
So then I was thinking, I was flying in the USA LA area and I had no slow downs.
But UK weather is terrible, rain, cloud etc .
During the now slow flight , I turned off live weather to clear skies but the SIM rate never changed.
Once everything takes 8 seconds per min longer I never get it to speed up again.
I might try a bunch of flights without live weather and see if I get any slow downs. My theory re simple avionics must have been a red hearing but I am still thinking it’s either weather or the region you are flying in.
To all on this thread, try no live weather just clear skies and see what happens ???
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
I have been experiencing this issue for at least a few weeks. The sim itself runs slower than real time. It can be easily seen by starting a flight at live time and checking the sim time after a period. The sim quickly gets a few minutes behind the live time. Interestingly, this does not appear to be an issue on cloud gaming. I tested a flight today and the sim stayed with live time.
Are you using DX11 or DX12?
XSX
Are you using DLSS?
XSX

Truthfully, I fly all over the place. Mostly SoCal or the Mid-Atlantic in the US.
