The new patch for 183 made things worse. Any one else feel like a beta tester?

Class action? Seriously? That’s what this has come to?

C’mon man!

COVID, wildfires, floods, global warming, unemployment, diving economies, racial issues… and all some can do is whine about a computer game.

Bring on the ‘correction’, Mother Nature. Mankind needs a reboot!

Hear, hear!

no need for that. they just need to fix it

Before August 18th, a lot of people (maybe you weren’t one of them) wanted so badly for this game to be released. “I don’t care if it’s buggy, just release it now so I can play it”. I wasn’t fortunate enough to be an alpha/beta tester, so I was one of those people. After the release, so many people are complaining about how unplayable it is and how they’re going to request a refund. Does anyone see the irony here? Would you have preferred to wait another year for the release, until every bug was fixed? Not me. I’d rather have the bugs than nothing at all. Just enjoy it for what it is now, the fixes will come.

Exactly. And they will. Frustrating that it was working pretty darn well (at least for me) and that there is no way to roll back to the “known good” 1.8.2

But, in the scheme of things, not too big a deal.

Well said, well spoken.

And now our dream is realized… we get to be beta and alpha testers!

To me the sim is functional, but it’s a barebones package. There are features missing from this sim, that were in FSX.

Considering the scope of this sim and the complexity involved, I’m not the least bit surprised that this first significant patch didn’t make everything perfect. Asobo is still surely in a “data collection mode” to figure just where things need to be tweaked, and I’m sure that may feel like you’re beta testing, but if we’re being completely realistic, I can’t remember the last time I bought a game that didn’t need some stuff fixed upon release. Even titles that are not even a fraction as detailed or complex as this simulator can and often do have glaring issues.

Me personally, I’m seeing noticeably improved performance with this latest update, mainly with regard to the stuttering when loading scenery/building data, which is practically gone now. The area immediately surrounding O’Hare airport is still a little challenging for the fps counter, but it is much better than it was before, about a 10~15 fps increase. Previously, flying out of Kansas City (KMKC) was pretty rough, with a lot of stuttering, even to the point of the sim freezing completely several times for half-second or more. But, last night it was a much smoother flight with only barely detectable moments where I thought it was loading scenery and the fps remained consistent.

As far as I’m concerned, pretty much every initial release for any game is, on some level, just another testing phase of sorts and the way I usually avoid dealing with that is to just wait. I watch the forums, I read reviews, I see what’s going on with the game, and I wait for the right time to purchase. I didn’t do that this time, so I don’t feel like I have a lot of room to complain too harshly. I could have just anticipated a lot of bugs and waited, but none of the known issues have prevented me from having an enjoyable experience thus far, despite it being far from perfection. (I can think of other flight sims I’ve owned or currently own that I’m MUCH less happy with, that’s for sure.)

I can’t speak to every function that others are reporting as not working, but so far, all of the things I normally use during a flight (ATC, autopilot, G1000, etc.) seem to be operating normally in the aircraft I typically fly, which is primarily the TMB 930, Bonanza G36, Diamond DA62, and SR22.

For what it’s worth, I see better performance after the patch flying only C-172 mostly to include the G1000 version. But I’m wonder if the graphics quality is the same. Load times are better. I never fly the A320 so won’t comment. Twice now, before patch and after patch, I noticed disconnecting my USB mouse from the computer will cause a blue screen crash. Anyone else seen this, or maybe I have a bad USB port.

I spent over $130 for this sim after taxes, so I will complain as much as needed to make sure to light a fire under the dev’s behind to get things working properly.

Look, I am not expecting a payware quality aircraft, with every airport looking exactly as it does in the real world… What I would expect is an engine not shutting down when I turn off the APU, plane keeps moving backwards when parking brake is applied after pushback, I expect not taxing to the runway and have taxiway lights and signs literally all over the place, especially in the “hand-crafted” airports which there are still tons of. Default airports have jet ways standing in the middle of the ramp, not attached to any building, our airport (KPHX) has a road splitting the airport through the middle. A couple of the taxiways cross over the road via an overpass. There are elevation spikes, about the size of a speed bump that stop the plane in it’s tracks, sometimes the plane sinks in the ground after hitting these “bumps”. Sometimes I load the plane to a gate and it’s not even a little bit lined up with any of the markings??

I just expect these basic features to work. That is reasonable in my opinion after spending the kind of money I did on a sim. I was hopeful that this patch, that was forced upon me, would tie up some of the loose ends and while I am getting better performance, I can’t fly a gate to gate flight in the A320, so what good are the other things to me?

I’ve had issues with the weight and fuel gauges on A320 - flickering digits on panel. The nose seems to be pitching down in autopilot as well. Setting cruising altitude seems to be temperamental too. Anybody else?

the breathtaking feat of a misleading advertisement for several months, which boasted a magnificent flight simulator (only for 120 euros) and which has turned into an unplayable game.
For me, my decision is made, I’m going back to Xplane and I never want to know anything more about Flight simulator 2020.
The CDs will simply end up in the trash with all their contents.

this is exactly what I am saying. Just trying to light a fire under the devs here.

The same here I was hopeing that the 183 patch would fix the things I was having problems with in 182. they said in the notes that they did. The auto pilot (basic flight feature) seems to me a simple thing to fix. All though I am not a programmer. theory. set the Altitude to 14000. make the plane go to 14,000. simple enough? No the AP if your lucky will start to climb, adjust the auto-throttle speed to raise it after 10,000 ft
the plane levels off. Set vspeed to +1800 it starts to climb again errrr maybe. turn the AP off the plane does a nose dive. at this point if your lucky enough to get out of the dive your plane does weird things. weird things in it behaves differently for different people but usually becomes unplayable for all. This was a very simple thing to test in BETA Which Asobo stated they wanted to be sure the main items (bugs) were tested before the released the patch.

When doing the Checklist (A320) the APU will not start from a dark start, also CTRL+E. However when you start from runway your set to go.
The auto pilot is broken for at least all airliners and needs to be dealt with in a timely manor

Also while playing the 747 I requested push back and every airport vehicle around my plane and others that were close by disappeared, yes gone! however I was still being pushed back. I can not rem which airport this was at though it was probably Atlanta, (KATL)

Another thing I wanted to mention is the (Live traffic) there was an A380 at the gate 2 down from me and it looked a lot smaller than the 747. I do wonder if this was a camera thing and some cam positions do make the plane look “streatched”

At this point I do wonder if Asobo bit off a bit more than they could chew. As for asking for a refund etc… I do expect a “RELEASED” version of any game to at least have basic functions “WORK” I am not asking for a refund at this time and I do see the potential in the game. but a quick fix here is very much needed at least an “Autopilot fix” and leave the other stuff out of it for now just work on the Autopilot and then later release patches to get other stuff working.

I felt like a beta tester when on day 0 instead of flying and enjoying I was on Zendesk writing up the steps to show incorrect behavior in G1000 which makes IFR unusable and leads to a CTD.

In fact, I don’t remember much time spent that was not wasted. Couldn’t really get any enjoyment out of it until I learned what aircraft to avoid, what functionality to not even try to use, etc.

This is not release quality, and the patches are not outstanding examples of release management.

This is not a user base that is impatient and not understanding.

I might try doing a clean install of the program but then again I wonder if I’ll have the same results

The thing is it is not just fixing existing bugs. There are missing features that are to be implemented, and those additions and core changes may often cause new bugs.

And since there is no separate mass testing branch available.

Yes, we are indeed beta testers.

The only thing we are missing is proper forum titles. I recon if everyone is given “Post Release Beta Tester” forum title, there will be much less confusion going around about bugs and all. I am sure most of the complainers that irritate the good forum folk, will think twice before posting their vents, if they are reminded of this fact every time they post a comment.

If you’re OK with the current state of the sim, good for you, but that’s only your personal preference.

Most of us bought this product as a flight simulator, with some promised functions, as a complete product. Non of them are working correctly.

It’s not a free simulator, we paid for it and we want functionality.

I agree with you RudderTrim… but you approached a hornet’s nest with a stick. That’s not a good idea! (wink)

has any one heard any news on what Asobo is saying after the release of the 183 patch?
