I would like to say a thing though, now with LOD 400 you have WAY better performance than before with LOD 200, before I could not maintain 30 fps, now I can easily reach 40-50 in dense urban areas in 4k, that was impossible in SU4
Yes, completely agree with you. But its a bit weird that a cfg tweak is needed now no?
And because of the scenery culling, when you turn the camera it causes pop-in, the game barely uses memory, wish it would keep the scenery in memory if you have enough of it.
I agree, editing the cfg should not be required, Asobo needs to increase the slider at least to 400
How do you get rid of that controller popup at the top?
the devmode menu? just tick autohide under first menu option
Not being a wise-guy, just wondered if you have considered P3D, which in version 5.x is in DX12, which theoretically should make better use of multiple cores. It’s not nearly as pretty out-of-the-box as MSFS no question, but there is a wealth of 3rd party add-on scenery (e.g. “Orbx”) available…as you probably know the XBox version of MSFS -is- written in DX12, but the PC version (at present) is still (only) DX11. DX12 is not a magic bullet, further optimization of the code is required. One thing I wish is that MSFS (and other sims) would automatically configure themselves for the hardware detected on the platform you’re playing. If you have a Ryzen 5-series CPU, it would know, and then it would look at your GPU and system Ram and self-configure all the graphics options for your best frame rate at a selected screen resolution (1080p, 1440p, or 4k). Take all the tweaking and guesswork out of the box, and those who wanted to could override and tweak away…
That’s a great processor, but if you are depending on the built-in graphics you can’t expect much. The Ryzen APU parts weren’t really built with gaming in mind.
Do you have a discrete GPU installed? If so, which one, and on what motherboard?
Cheers!
For me, on my system, this is completely and utterly false. The reason I know it’s false is that not only is my performance better, aside from only some of the clouds looking a little less realistic, I know for certain that it looks better on my system than it did before SU5. I was running Ultra then, and I’m running Ultra now.
Just as people need to stop implying that the troubles other people are having aren’t real, people need to stop implying that those of us with obvious performance and graphics quality improvements don’t exist or are somehow incapable of seeing the alleged degradation.
you’re not runing “ultra” now, even though it might say that in the menue. set LOD to 400-500 and you’ll get there maybe in part, besides that, texture res LOD, water res LOD all that is reduced. comapred to before 1.18
I’m glad many are happy with the update, but as a high-end user (10900K, 3090) who was already happy with the performance on ultra 3440x1440 pre-update, SU5 is really disappointing. I’d happily trade the extra frames back for a better looking sim. My main complaint is the changes to the lighting. The dynamic range has been crushed. Blown out whites, lighter blacks and less of everything in between.
Nope. I’m running Ultra now, and it looks beautiful. But, you know…being an artist who is extremely, annoyingly picky about the way things look – down to the pixel – what do I know about what I see with my own two eyes on my system? ![]()
My GPU is a amd rx 5500 xt and my motherboard is a asus tuf b450 plus. Think it’s kinda medium in terms of ability
Its facts though
There is plenty of threads that prove lod ranges are halved, dont believe me tweak the usercfg and set lods to 5..

In short, the ultra you are running now is the high setting from a week ago. Deny it all you want, its just true sadly. (When it comes to draw distance and lod range)
What’s factual is that SU5 Ultra looks better on my system than <=SU4 Ultra.
I’m really not going to argue with you on this because it’s the same tired old discussion that belongs in several threads other than this one, where people are here to talk about how well the sim is working for them. It’s unfortunate that you are having issues, and it’s unfortunate that you have come to this positive thread to be negative, but it’s just not interesting to me…at all. ![]()
I’m thoroughly enjoying my sim, which looks and runs gorgeous. That’s what I’m here in this thread to talk about, like the OP intended. ![]()
I think the reason people are responding negatively here is the whole idea of a thread that is basically saying " Asobo do not bother with all this talk of fixing bugs, SU5 is amazing just carry on fixing the sim for XBox and working on world updates and more content instead " is very off putting for those people having genuine issues.
No one is saying that. ![]()
I’ll tell you like I told MSGX88
The LOD setting is unchanged, it was planned to be updated, but was dropped due to problems posed to scenery add on developers (they’ll need to work on their products before we get the new LOD system). XBOX got the new LOD system, we didn’t. We got the new rendering techniques, CPU/GPU and memory optimisations that the XBOX got.
Hmm weird, all those screenshots showing the NY skyline from jfk must be fake then (su4)
I’ve always had pop in. I am assuming that it’s more jarring now with the new rendering techniques. It would be less obvious if it faded in and didn’t “pop” into existence.
But facts show the drawdistance is lower compared to su4 though. Not to mention the culling they introduced which causes popin when panning. (Which again worked fine in su4)
But i guess it just looks better on your pc, even though no graphics upgrade has been made.
