This is more than a suspected bug (it is a bug), and I’m not sure what other information you need?
Many users have experienced this issue, dating back to 2021 (!), and it still hasn’t been fixed properly:
- Unable to update for months - Download Looping
- Download infinite loop
- A new update forces MSFS 2020 in a download loop
Regardless of how or why a download or decompression fails, the fact is that this is not handled correctly, and results in an enormous amount of wasted time and bandwidth.
If anything, there should at least be an on-screen message indicating that a download has failed, and WHY. Then RESUME the download, don’t RESTART it unless the resumption has failed or the file is corrupted.
Is there a log file? Where can I see that download of file X failed at byte Y for reason Z? How can I troubleshoot this?
Nothing else can be done from a user perspective – this requires developer attention, to fix a fundamentally broken updater.
