This is how MFS 2024 runs on Series X

The mouse issue is at times really infuriating, to the point that i stop playing because i felt overstressed.

Itā€™s been more than one week since the launch. Iā€™ve a few conclusions.

  • MSFS2024 can perform and look better than MSFS2020. Itā€™s better mainly in remote places, only nature around. I posted some pictures in this thread. I explored e.g. Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Yosemite as I like bush flying in the US. But sometimes the sim refused to load more detailed ground as I was approaching. Also many pop ins in mountainous area.
  • Landscape covered with snow looks better now. There is a clever trick with LOD. Snow is probably not big resource hog as standard ground texutre as it is just repetitive pattern layer added over colour. The landscape covered in snow is more detailed even further away.
  • The cities have a disastrous appearance. Melted PG where it is present or totally blured ground textures. Even small towns looks bad.
  • It makes no difference for me if a custom 3rd party airport is on or off. I had KEWR by Drzewiecki Design installed. It is big airport so I thought it could impact surroundings. After Asobo turned off airport addons, NYC looks the same. Just bad. The same goes for my home town Wroclaw in Poland. It made no difference in ground textures turning off 3rd party EPWR airport.
  • Night flying is better now. Night lights and landscape looks more natural and pleasant now.
  • The places where there is very hi res ground imagery looks nice but more fuzzy than MSFS 2020. The places which wasnā€™t updated looks like ****. All the devs talking about a new details in a landscape is worth nothing.

Oh, I tried career mode once and resigned after few minutes because of bugs. I chose for may home airport Palo Alto and the second flight was in Sedona out of the blue. The simple flight pattern around the airport had wrong altitude assigned so it was enough for me.

You know Xbox reviews also include PC users, right? Itā€™s not just console. And if you filter the reviews to see the most recent ones, theyā€™re mostly negative apart from the odd one out that says ā€œitā€™s working fineā€. When it clearly isnā€™t. But itā€™s great that itā€™s working for you. However I do believe that each Xbox console is equal in terms of performance. It may be possible that youā€™re not trying to fly airliners, which is why youā€™re finding it great. Personally for me, flying a Cessna around Yellowstone also looks pretty ok, at times. But that doesnā€™t mean the sim is overall working. Itā€™s not, and quite frankly it deserves the low reviews.

No, I havenā€™t flown airliners, on career mode Iā€™m just reaching the Turboprop training. Getting to airliners is not a trivial matter unless youā€™ve flown them before and MSFS 2020 gave the barest of training that went right over my head. The Helicopter training has been patchy, but on the whole 2024ā€™s training has been a good deal better than 2020.

By the sound of it then, the parts that arenā€™t working so well are aircraft I havenā€™t got to yet. Not really a way for me to know that.

I donā€™t think Iā€™m unique. Iā€™m closing in on my 50 hours flight time, but thatā€™s an Xbox achievement that has been met by 0.04% of those who have started up the sim. And 2 hours each at the controls of 1. A Jet, 2 an airliner, 3, a glider and 4, a Rotorcraft has been met by only 0.01%

That looks like the OG Tomb Raider on PlayStation 1

Just some planes. Nothing else.

I might try this later, where about do I disable 120hz mode?

Is that in the Xbox video settings, should I switch it to 60hz?

I just tested PG off and it does look better to me, though could just be the servers.

What I donā€™t understand is what PG actually brings to the sim?

Is it just famous landmarks in 3D? As Iā€™m still getting realistic buildings in some parts I think.

I also switched series x to 60fps.

PG off yet Iā€™m still getting landmarks so I have no idea what PG is, I always thought it was for buildings?

Honestly, Iā€™m proper fed up of this now. I spent Ā£130 for a game I physically canā€™t use! It freezes and crashes at every opportunity, when I can get in things donā€™t load properly like airports and aircraft. I bought the new Xbox to play the newer version and seriously, what a load of ā– ā– ā– ā– ! I have tried to reinstall, and itā€™s fixed nothing too. For now I think Iā€™ll stick to 2020 until this is fixed, if not Im half tempted to request a refund!

Yes, you can do it in the video settings from your Xbox dashboard. Just set your refresh rate to 60hz. OF COURSE thereā€™s no in-game options to turn this mode on/off. Anyway, if your gaming monitor doesnā€™t support VRR ( variable refresh rate ), i strongly suggest to not use the 120hz mode because the fps variations are pretty crazy.

2020 is fine today, so I dont think thats the issue

Has anyone had/seen trim wheel issues? Flying with a VelocityOne, sporadically off autopilot on landing my trim wheel will slam to -99 and Iā€™ll nose dive

I had that in 2020, not noticed the issue on my velocity one flight stick with 2024.

I mapped the trim elevator axis to the scroll wheel, works good so far.

Cheers Iā€™ll give that a try.

Iā€™ll try remapping it, I thought it was because I was on a third party aircraft but it happened in the Vision Jet as well.

Thanks a lot @dreampage

That supports my hypothesis that the simulator ā€œis thereā€ and it is not an Xbox hardware problem, but how it manages its obtaining data from the servers that provide the entire scenario

Iā€™m a bit sceptical about that. Basically you have a small circle around the plane where everything is loaded while outside it you get only a washed texture without any details. You can clearly see patches of trees and terrain popping-in when you move the plane ( and so the circle ). This how the dynamic LOD works, not a server issue. Itā€™s incredible aggressive and really hurt the whole experience, but judging how they handled it in 2020 ( in the worst way possible ) iā€™m not expecting miracles here.

The was a firmware fix for that a couple of months back. Check that your yokeā€™s firmware is up to date. It fixed it for me.

Firmware was up to date. I ran some tests today and found that I had a random binding sitting on the yoke errors to decrease trim. I must have been hitting that when adjusting the rudder trim.

Some of these new 2024 profiles have some very strange mappings. I need to spend some time checking every switch and button.

Is anyone else having issue when selecting certain aircraft for use, only to find out that you canā€™t get in to the cockpit?

Just tried using the A330 -LVFR model- only to discover that all covers are removed, and no checks need to be done.

When I bring up the EFB I am unae to use it either.

This has been happening with quite a few aircraft now.
