TOO BRIGHT: Unrealistic and Overexaggerated Airport and Night Lighting in MSFS 2024, bloom too high, light sprites too big, Sepia mask is unrealistic

Maybe stop wearing sunglasses at night!

for what i understand, the sepia mask is not going to be fixed in patch 3 ?

Seems not to be the case. For some reasons, they’re not willing to apply the same fix they did in 2020…

so i will not do night flights for a long moment i think, it’s sad really

What has been said in the stream regarding to sepia?

I just wand to add:

As it is toooo bright at night, it is the opposite during daytime on a dark cloudy/foggy (winter) day… all lights are to weak; runway , taxi lights, cockpit lights … baerly lighten up anything … this pic was made today on a cloudy day early afternoon at Hamburg … all Lights (Taxi, Landing, RWY Turn Off Lights, Dome Light in the Cockpit are at their max)…

Totally agree - I think the whole thing looks ridiculous. It’s tired into almost a normal video game.

Also, the stupid smoke/condensation effects that the engine/propeller kick back when on the ground are just totally absurd and look like they are from an early 2000 video game.

Sounds like the sepia mask will not be changed until they find a better solution for night lighting. I don’t mind the sepia mask, it just needs a larger radius similar to what they did in 2020. As of now, I have glowing fields right below me. I am surprised they cannot keep it the same as in 2020 but I am guessing it is much closer now due to the performance cost…

Thank you for your reply !

As I wrote earlier in this topic, if you think the issue was settled with msfs 2020, now the issue is back in msfs 2020. I experiment the same problems as you guys with 2024. I think this bug is a good one for the developpers.

Idk man, this is with no mods. I’m definitely not getting that experience on PC. Are your drivers up to date?

Try Dubai, or any other bigger city at higher altitude.
Low altitude not affected.

The sim looks amazing at low altitudes already, this is the problem for higher altitudes, especially areas like Dubai as Grinde said.

Agreed. My first flight on FS2024 was low altitude at night in the C152 around Barbados and I was absolutely blown away. But as soon as you get high up in an Airliner the ground detail falls away fast and the sepia mask comes in

Yeah in fact, at least for me, I’ve never seen night lightin at lower altitudes this good.

I’m worried they might make the entire sim less bright, ruin the beautiful night visuals, and still leave the overly visible taxi lights untouched. The real issue is the visibility, not the brightness.

The title of this topic is a bit misleading, and yesterday it seemed like they only read the first two words.

I think there are many different issues addressed in this topic, like blooming taxi lights or airport lights and bad night lighting at high altitueds should be covered separately

In msfs 2020, turning off the bloom effect in the general option help a lot. But sepia still present at high altitude. Actually working with my tv settings to see if brightness and contrast could help.

They mentionned the night lighting in the QA yesterday and they recognize that the sepia mask is not optimum. They are thinking of a solution to bake an entire night world map. As for the very bright light at some airports, they mentionned it’s an issue with light values on edited airport and that’s why it doesn’t affect the autogen airport. They are working on it, like on many other bugs. The QandA was good and informative. It helps to hear them. To me this sim is very good. Far from perfect, but I enjoy flying it more than FS2020, mostly because of the global light system, and I’m a VR only person.
