Twin Otter Engine Sounds

Seems like there is a mix of engine sounds and white noise, like wind that comes in and out.. It did drive me nuts flying it…. I cranked it down in settings, but that will be a pain to adjust every time for other planes.. Still have that uneven sound like wind that repeats and gets tedious and wears you down after a long flight.

Super noticeable when flying VR with a headset on, and gave me an earache.

I am wondering if I could just take another aircraft sound file and replace it? Or can someone build a modified version sound file for it that knows how to remove aspects or insert new ones?

Yup, picked this up this morning and gave it a quick test. Sound has a few problems and this repeating white noise/wind sounds is painfully obvious and needs addressed. Genuinely surprised it was released with the sounds as they are as the aircraft for the most part is very good.
I also notice the lag with the likes of flaps but after landing, I went outside and retracted the flaps - nicely animated but no external sounds. Went back into cockpit and the flaps sounds suddenly started working. Back outside and still no flap sounds Back into cockpit and the sound was still there but never stopped, even after the flaps were fully retracted.

Regarding the Sound: I made several Tests with the Sound.xml.
It is at the moment a fact that the engine sound is not reduced by the interiorreduction value, as it should be. Other Sounds like Wind etc. are. So the Engine Sound is somehow not completely right implemented. Even if it is really loud in a real Twin Otter (which they tried to simulated by only reducing outside sound inside the cockpit by 9DB, which is nealy nothing) the engines are reduced by 0. But I am confident, that they will adress this. In the aerosoft forums one could read, that there were already a updated sound, which couldn´t make it into the release version.

I completely agree - I wish there was a viable alternative. When VR was released I made a load of videos of FSX and P3D promoting VR and showing what could be done, how I felt about it (good & bad) along with new VR accessories as they became avaible and I was amazed to see my subscriber numbers soar and get a sponsorship offer from a Canadian tech import/export company (which I politely declined). I used to watch flight sim vids every morning over breakfast.

Since they switched it all to blatant money grabbing (they are a company after all, I suppose but it’s the “Content Creator” money grabbing that irks me) I find only garbage on there every day, and almost all by the same “creators” even when I make searches for specific subjects. The “recommended” vids are nothing like what I have previously watched or searched for (all these pathetic personal diary “VLogs” etc) and I deleted my channel in disgust.
Now I only ever upload something if I want to show a particular person something specific (a bug or how to do something).
I just wish something like the old YT would come along that isn’t completely profit based, and more importantly doesn’t make it so easy for others to upload for money.

sorry for the OT - YT never listens to my constructive feedback!

Despite the poor reviews yesterday I was switching on my PC this morning to buy the Twotter anyway - but again I have been filled with doubt on hearing what the devs have been saying (which I’ll check for myself next). I think I’ll pass - at least for now.

Simply exchange the Twin Otter sound folder in “AS_Aircraft_DHC6_Common/sound” with the “Asobo-aircraft-kingair350” sound folder and assign it with “MSFSLayoutGenerator” .
Sounds much more better than the original Twin Otter sound.

Another issue with the ski variant is that with the skis down the aircraft will taxi over dry pavement as well as it does on snow. Is this a limitation of the sim or something else?

I’ve been trying this, reloading the plane via dev. mode aircraft selector, as well as quitting to the main menu, then reloading it. I changed it from -9 to -25, and I don’t get a difference in audio levels. I’m applying full power, then opening the pilot side door, and the audio doesn’t change at all.

Actually I just re-checked, and there is a small change, but it sounds like a reduction in wind levels, not engine noise. I just set them both to “0”, and there is no change, so at least it confirms that the setting is doing something, just not what I expected.

Here is what I get with “-40” configured:

I wish I could recall which of the several Twotter posts I saw it in but someone said reducing those values had no effect on the engine sound levels.

Yeah I tested it also more. The Parameters works as expected for exterior sounds BUT NOT the engine sound. The engine sound doesnt recognize you are in a cockpit and is 0 DB reduced.

Had time to fly the Twin Otter a little today and must agree on the sound issues. I’d like to think of myself as someone who isn’t a nitpicker and can accept small glitches and problems. But in this case I have to join the complaint crowd.
The sound is significantly too loud (could be remedied via the sound volume settings of MSFS of course) but I also really don’t like the way the sound changes with changing RPMs. It’s very abrupt and unnatural like throwing a switch.

Also tried using the sound of the Kodiak with the Twin Otter, but it will only work for the port engine. The starbord engine then has no sound. But the sound of the left engine is perfectly natural

I really hope Aerosoft can remedy that situation, because it really actually kills the experience for me.

So I finally modded me a Soundset which works for me. It´s a combination of the well recored other sounds of the WWISE Pack from the Twotter and Legacy Sounds for the Engine Runnings and Props and that RPM Sounds which now Pitch and also the Turbine, which now also has not just states with overblending. Uploading a small clip for show. Not final but works a lot better than the release version.

No Proceeds, just a short demo of the soundmod. RPM and Turbine Pitch works now and gives me the feeling by sound in which state the engines run. Not final, but until Aerosoft brings out a patch, is this my go.

And where can we find this mod?

Funny thing is, you can have the AC off, open the doors and hear nothing, but if you turn the AC on and start the engines you can open the doors and hear the engines as if you’re hearing them outside… So yes, some work to be done for sure. And yes, the engine volume slider in sound settings does nothing to lower the volume. Wonderful aircraft though.

Lovely work!

Nice work. That sounds so much better than the auditory mess AS released the plane with. Now I just need to solve the AP issues and I might actually fly it again.

@RealMatch, this guy needs your AP .cfg tweak.

Could you release this great sound mod?Pleeease…
