I don’t think that’s accurate. They always said that DX12 was coming, but I don’t remember them stating a date. If you could share a link to a particular dev. update that backs up your assertions that would make for interesting reading.
I don’t need reminding from you, I’m well aware of Asobos plans to implement DX12 eventually and I for one could not give a flying monkeys when it’s ready, the upcoming performance optimisations are far more important to me.
Seems like you have an agenda here, so you’ve got your own problems.
Thanks bud, this has been what i was exactly looking for.
TBA is not a date. The bracketed XBox launch I interpreted as coming with the XBox. The TBA is for the PC. It means To Be Announced, and they haven’t announced that yet, only the XBox release on the 27th.
If it had been coming with Sim Update 5 , for example, it would say that, and not TBA. You’ll notice that some other items on the list there mention Update 5. From the date at the top its before the separation of Sim Updates, and World Updates.
If you want a more accurate one, why pick one from so long ago, and instead look at the latest.
It now says it’s started with 2021, and not TBA.
Why remove the part in brackets in the latest snapshots if it meant only for the xbox?
Anyway plans change and it will come when it’s ready, no problem with that. At least be honest about the reasons instead of spinning alternative meanings.
So it’s like ‘HD Ready’ TVs used to be before HD.
You could tell your friends you had the ‘latest thing’ but actually it looked just the same. ![]()
That’s a stretch. Not getting into this needless argument, but they did say multiple times dx12 was coming when Xbox launched. This isn’t a secret.
But who cares. It will launch when it launches.
Quite simple. They did announce that DX12 would come with the Xbox release, as it was a requirement for the platform. They couldn’t use DX11 at all. The PC version works fine with DX11.
The brackets disappeared presumably after July 27th was announced as the XBox release date. Everything after is PC only. You won’t find a single image that states a PC release date for DX12.
Precisely. At this point the xbox version can be thought of as ‘DX12 ready’, awaiting further development to make use of it’s features (which the PC version and xbox version will get at the same time). The fact the xbox version is built against DX12 won’t make a difference until they start taking advantage of it’s features.
To my knowledge, using the DX12 API instead of the DX11 API is already making the rendering engine different enough and using new features and improvements, by the mere fact the DX12 API makes you managing memory, draw calls and assets in a very different way than DX11.
Regardless of using DX12U additional features like RT, DX12 API already offers optimizations opportunities you can’t get at all with DX11 alone with regard to multi-threading, streaming assets, etc…
Yes, completely agree with CptLucky8. I can add DX-12 API (DX-12_1 that is) will be a major performance upgrade. It requires only DX-11 features: it will run on low end hardware, that is the MX-boards and also on 1060 boards, I think they will release it for PC this week, because a performance upgrade was promised, also to PC users. High end GPU’s with i5/i7 will profit from it, low end GPU’s will profit as well.
When they release 12_1 for XBox, they’ll put it for PC.. Else they would have to maintain 2 different versions of the graphics engine. That would be inconvenient for updates !
@CptLucky8 completely agree, although I’d assumed that at present the xbox version will be running DX12 in DX11 compatibility mode and that the sim itself will still be using DX11 concepts - we’ve not heard that the devs have done any development on DX12 yet, and they’ve said in the dev Q&A livestreams that the codebase is the same for the PC and xbox versions, just different build targets. Happy to be wrong on this though!
These are 2 different things. i can only speculate, but the “compatibility mode” is D3D11OnDX12 which is used to port small DX-11 games quickly.. that would bring little improvement for the CPU. I think they will go for the second thing you mention, that is using DX-11 concepts for the first release. The increase in frame rate will be spread over multiple updates. The more multithreading they put in, the more your CPU will cool down. I can’t look into the kitchen, but I think that would be the best strategy.
With the cancellation of DX-12 on PC (hopefully temporary), does anyone know what that means for particle effects on PC (those cool water wakes, tire smoke and dust)?
Or will they be XBOX exclusive for the indefinite future?
I believe the particle effects are associated with DX12, which is used in the Xbox version. PC users won’t see them until DX12 comes to the PC version. This WILL come eventually. Asobo are working on it. There are plenty of benefits to enjoy from SU5 to satisfy most PC users I suspect.
The wave stuff is suppose to becoming with SU5 tomorrow. From what I heard whatever the XBOX version has will be on the PC version except DX12!
I would guess they free up resources to add eye candy to the sim in tomorrows update. Just my guess.
Just can’t see how some 2D wave effects could hit performance on DX11.
That meme is premature. We’ll all know in 24hrs.. they did promise a performance upgrade. That can be accomplished by downgrading the settings again, but with the Nordic they tried that already.. and put it back, partially.. I have not seen any popping mountain tops in XBox previews. Ultra LOD will work. I hope they will fill my nap with better tree distance
others want FpS..
They’re in the sim beginning tomorrow
