[Updated] Arrows Across America: fly the US Air Mail routes 1926 - 1934

Hi all, quick festive update to close the year.

Thanks in particular to the Herculean route creating skills of @Megadyptes7635, aka “The Mail Machine”, we are excited to announce that we will be releasing v3 of Arrows Across America in the next week or so.

This will bring us to over 3,800 miles of air mail routes covering:

From v1

  • CAM5 Salt Lake City - Pasco (543 miles)

From v2

  • CAM32 Portland to Spokane (333 miles)

New for v3

  • CAM4 Los Angeles - Salt Lake City (630 miles)
  • CAM8 San Diego - Seattle (1,166 miles)
  • The western leg of CAM18 San Francisco - Chicago, taking you as far as Salt Lake City (618 miles)
  • CAM26 Great Falls - Salt Lake City (516 miles)

In addition, v3 has:

  • new hubs at Salt Lake City & Reno
  • new animated hangar designs with the CAM contractor
  • new arrow types
  • a total of 47 Intermediate Landing Fields
  • an updated manual with route maps and contemporary weather overviews for the new states you will be flying through (no METAR or weather radar allowed!)

Wow, this is great news! Just need the bit from SLC to Chicago, then between you and Redwing’s USA 1935 we’ll be able to do a full transcontinental mail run.

Yeah. Actually, the 1935 USA scenery adds a lot of immersion, by turning off the modern street and city lights.

Late addition to v3…some period vehicles

Work in progress (in front of the new CAM4 hangar)

And the model for a refueling truck

(Not that we are competing with Redwing’s 1935 project or anything!)

Pick-up truck finished. Here in front of the hangar in Reno. Tanker tomorrow. I hope. And when the manual is finished, we are good to go.

Fantastic! Thank you.

Thanks - and we must dust off that idea about a mail run race. Some of the new routes provide ample scope for taking a wrong turn and losing time, as I discovered north east of Reno!

Great news, thanks - keep us posted with the details!

Looking great! I’ve been involved in flight model testing for the upcoming Golden Age Simulations Stearman package… Not only is their flight model far superior to the other Stearman, their package includes a 300hp option which gives a little more reasonable cruise performance for a cross country. It’ll be the perfect match for these routes!
