[Updated] Arrows Across America: fly the US Air Mail routes 1926 - 1934

Hi, can you explain what you did, and how you did it? I’m not sure how to do it. Excuse my ignorance.
Cheers, Rob.

It’s all good dude. Locate the layout file and make a back up. Open it in notepad and delete any reference to airway beacon or red beacon. I honestly had no idea what I was doing either but a little trial and error got me the desired result. Full disclosure I only did a quick flight after my edit so I am not 100 percent on if I missed anything or accidentally deleted something important lol.

If you released it as a beta for 2024, you could crowd source the verification. Just let us know what to look out for (with some examples) and give us a place to report issues and we could have it sorted out in no time.

Thanks. Is the USA still ‘dark’ at night? That would be a big +.
Will check later anyway.

Thanks for your offer.
I will see if we can set something up on our discord.
What I will start with is exporting the hangar models with the MSFS2024 Blender plugin, rebuild in Devmode 24, and see if the animation then is correct.
All other models seem just fine.
Next would be looking at all ILF’s to see if there is anything disturbing, like mesh issues, generic buildings out of whack, etc.
The beacon effect must be fixed. (Or we need to make our own…could try that)
And then fly past the beacons, see if they are visible, due to trees and houses in the way, mesh issues etc. Lots to do.
Cheers, Rob

The world is still dark, only red beacons are missing. I’ll have to fly around a bit to verify if the structures are also gone. But from sunset to sunrise it looks great!

It’s not under 2024??

What does “under 2024” mean?

Are you asking if it’s 2024 compatible? There’s quite a bit of discussion up above, as well as their plans.

And, no, it doesn’t work well in 2024 yet. Too many bugs affecting its operation.

We need more 30 40 prop airliners ,) the Boeing 247 was for this route😊

I will be content with a 2024 compatible version, but looking at the current standstill of the overall sim and all its deficiencies, it might take some time…

@GawinGrimm asked if we had some more info on the NY to Montreal route.
We have not mapped it out yet.
But there is info here: Map of Airway Beacons – Zhanna’s SurveyStation
Zoom in on that part of the route.
Dave checked it out, and there’s definitely an old tower at 43.460286° -73.545653° which they have as beacon 19

So if you want to go check it out in real life Paul, there’s a nice idea for an outing for you

Is this usable with a helicopter or is it for certain type aircraft? I fly the HYPE 160.

You can fly any plane you like.
Just hop from beacon to beacon all across the USA,at 500ft to 1000ft AGL.

You coul drive up to lake Nebo, and from there climb up through the woods to that beacon.
I guess there’s a reason it is still there. It’s remote. Don’t get lost.

This is my first time installing an add-on such as this. I’ve installed aircraft, but that’s all. Unzipped into Community. Now how do I access it in MSFS20 ?

Right. There is some documentation in the zip, where we give info on the routes, how they came to be, and where you can find more info. Also info on the Intermediate Landing Fields we created. You can choose a field, start from there, and follow the routes, by flying from light beacon to light beacon. Each beacon has an arrow, that points in the direction of the next beacon. If you fly in the other direction, imagine the generator shed pointing in the direction of the next beacon.
Also available: info on coordinates etc. You can place it for instance in Little Nav Map. A free moving map program. When you load the CSV file, all beacons apear on the map.
Hope this helps.

Did you get it into MSFS2020?
You could start at Blanch field, at Reno. We recreated that old ILF, including the special cantilever door hangar, designed by mr. J.B. Strauss, who also designed the Golden Gate bridge.
When you fly either west or east, you will see the next beacon flashing in the distance. From there you follow the beacons.
