He seems to be such a nice person! I’ve enjoyed every interview with him so far.
He’s so enthusiastic about the project, you can see it in every sentence

have seen it. Really nice

I would have liked it even if he given some more details. I think anyone who watched this would be convinced of Asobos commitment to make this the best flight sim. Very impressed by the fact that the core team working on the sim consists of about 200 people - and that does not include the external guys and companies. However in the current situation, a translation in all languages seems owed to the community :disappointed_relieved:

One very interesting thing I took away from his interview:

  • helicopters will come - maybe as a paid upgrade/update
  • He hinted that they are looking at a project that allows everyone to collaborate to improve the world, he didn’t get any more specific about it but I can sense a bit of “scenery gateway a la X-plane” here

I’ll try and translate / paraphrase everything real quick. Nothing too new but a few interesting tidbits I think.
Might edit for better readability later.

  • Release is only the beginning
  • “we currently spend much time reading, watching streams, listening”
  • next months will be about making updates for problems the community points out (examples: airplane doesn’t perform quite right, building doesn’t look right)
  • there are 3 categories of new stuff, plan is to bring sumething substantial every month
  • cat 1 is world updates: planes are currently scanning the northern hemisphere for new data that’ll be used to update the world, updates for regions of the world including new handbuilt airports, also new activities
  • many people fly in europe and NA but they want to get people to fly in other beautiful parts of the world as well
  • cat 2 is sim updates: they’re looking for all kinds of new data that could be integrated, like high altitude winds
  • “we know charts have to come”, same for obstacle data, should come in the next few months
  • “we have to improve seasons, we want to make it really dynamic, it’s on our roadmap”
  • talked a bit about passionate modders and that they want fo help them by improving the SDK
  • they’re listening to what the community says it needs in terms of tools
  • “with good tools creativity is unleashed”
  • "we are the platform and have to do stuff like supersonic speed, helicopters, better water simulation for sea planes
  • cat 3 are “packs” like a pack of helicopters (“maybe 4, maybe 8, we don’t know yet”) and these will be sold while world and sim updates are free
  • “for helicopters we also have to do stuff like the tenthousands of heliports in the world because that’ll be too difficult for the third parties to do. it’s like a new project. it’ll take a year for sure until everything is right. it’s like a new sim”
  • there’ll be new activities for helicopters as well
  • Q: will players be able to help make the sim world better?
A: everybody can already bring new houses, etc. into the sim but we want to give it more structure and make it so its not just a mod for the one person who built it.
“I can’t talk to much about it today but I have an idea hwo we can do it really well, so we can build the world together. hoperfully I can finally talk about it in one or two months but I think it will be great”
  • Q: how many people are working on the sim right now?
A: difficult to say, core team is about 200 but there are many other groups and companies like weather from swiss, AI from austria, Bing in Seattle, Microsoft China team (“for voice simulation, it’ll be really great”). more than 1000 individuals in the credits but it’ll grow further with new experts coming in.
  • Bing people are happy because they never saw their data visualized as beautifully, same for the weather people, it’s not just a job for them

Very encouraging. Thanks for the summary.

Thanks for your transcription

Thank you for doing that

You’re welcome. Sorry for the rush job. Dinner was cooking on the stove. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well done with the translation. Thank you!

1000+ people work on this, still? Never, more like a handful in home offices. This “game” was released one year too early. Extremely ugly scenery mistakes next to handmade scenery, they must have seen it and deliberately ignored it due to time pressure. Even many non airliners are unflyable, especially the “jets”. On one GA plane the slip indicator is upside down, who did not notice this? People will go back to FSX, Prepared and X-Plane for serious hardcore simming in their payware aircraft when they have seen what is to see in VFR and return to this game when payware aircraft have been released. Eye candy will wear off, that’s what candies do after a while. Only a major overhaul of most planes can remedy the current situation and bug fixes such as real weather and so on. I still believe in FS and hope for the best.

? Which one?

I suppose helicopters will fly just by pulling the throttle lever
DCS crew must be laughing their butts off by now.

I have a strong feeling i’v heard this one before
Ahh yes it was with the releases of FSX and Prepard3d.

It’s an aerobatic plane. It’s supposed to be upside down for when flying inverted. It has another slip indicator that is the normal way up.

If this is your level of understanding, how confident are you that you’re making reasonable and informed criticisms?
