Vote for what YOU think are the most ICONIC Aircraft of All Time.
You can have up to 5 VOTES in each Poll below: 1. GA & Commercial 2. Military & Experimental
…so please don’t miss the second one! You can come back to the page to vote on the other category or change your choices in either at any time.
(due to limits, I had to split the choices into 2 categories)
NOTE: Don’t be offended if you don’t see your choice. You can write in the comments (and please then DO NOT vote for the number of extra ones you write instead, so that your total is STILL 5 per Category!) – and I will count the votes manually in the Tables below each Poll.

Please discuss below and give me any ones you want to vote for that are not already included here and I will add them. But remember, your TOTAL VOTES must still be a maximum of 5 for each category, so no cheating please!
The Latécoère 631 is often left behind. I’d vote for that, given its troubled WW2 history in the Latécoère company, the engineer Latécoère who himself founded the aeronautical industry in Toulouse and created the Société des lignes Latécoère which transformed to become Aéropostale (for which Antoine de Saint-Exupéry flew).
So much connected history makes this plane a historical reminder of the early ages of aviation.
I believe The Laté 631 would be in the commercial group
Hi,
I am missing the Messerschmitt Bf-109, which was to my knowledge the most produced fighter aircraft of all times. Or the Messerscmitt Me-262, the first operational jet fighter.
And the little known Heinkel He-178, the worlrd’s first jet aircraft, which flew just before WW2 began.
I went with all the iconic pathfinders/war winners
Wright-duh
Cub-the original blueprint for all GA aircraft
Camel-first real ‘full package’ balancing all tech available to win a war
Spitfire-same for WWII, also made the Mustang great in the process
B17-THE ‘bomber’
DC3-set the idea of the ‘airliner’ into history
707-and same with that jet air-liner, don’t carry me too far away
F4-broke the ‘futuristic’ century series cacophony in fighter evolution land or sea
Concorde-we’re hitting a point where living humans will never figure out how this was done
SR71-when engineers’ intellect hit the historical apogee and were fully caffeinated
Man that was tough to pick just 5 in each category, there are some really amazing aircraft listed there. I debated on the DC-6 for GA/commercial because I love that plane and it was Douglas’ first pressurized airliner that made production. Ultimately changed it to the J3 since so many pilots learned to fly in it (including myself for a tailwheel endorsement), it may not be fast but it’s a good airplane. Of course the Concorde has to make the list, I doubt we will ever see a more iconic airliner.
Wanted to pick the F-4 and F-14 too but just too many good choices. Great poll.
Commercial. -add
Vickers Viscount
Britten Norman Trislander
The choice of the BN Trislander gives away my Channel Islands upbringing. If I’d had one more choice the BAC 1-11 would also make the list. It was the very first jet aircraft to land at Jersey. Woke the whole island up. But the Yellow Aurigny Trislanders buzzing about on inter island hops - and France - stick in the mind. G-JOEY in particular became a famous Channel Island Icon.
