VR in 2024 is an absolute mess (review...kinda)

I also had fantastic fps in 2024 until I realised I was flying over blurry textures.

Good for you having a swell experience, but the tone of your post seems to not take very seriously the fact that 2024 was a complete disaster for many other users.
(unless you’re being sarcastic)

My experience has been all over the map. Yesterday I was working on getting my Valve Index binding close to what I have in 2020 and I had FPS go down to 20. Later in the evening I was getting 60 FPS on my Bigscreen Beyond and have no idea why.

well i dont think it is a mess. se my post here.

What is the point of this disrespectful and toxic tone towards me?

It is not just my experience that MSFS24 has a fabulous performance not only in VR, but in many other ways. These are experienced men and women who don’t just “write it down”. Too bad for you, but maybe you just have a poorly configured computer. Or your internet connection is not right, the router is wrongly configured, etc.

If it were just the flight simulator’s fault, then no one would have been able to fly. But the many screenshots and reports speak a very clear language. It is the best flight simulator of all time, which offers an incredible experience in VR. But not just in VR :+1:

I’ve been able to solve the mouse-not-working in VR by manipulating a Quest hand controller momentarily. However, another problem is the hand icon always looks like its still in 2d mode ( it’s doubled).

Ohh, that’s interesting. I haven’t tried that, but I will the next time it happens, thanks. I do see the double pointer thing fairly often, but I’ve kind of gotten used to it.

I regret to inform you that VR could be improved a lot in msfs 2020 and even more in msfs 2024. We hope that in the next patches they improve the VR experience. Waiting for improvements to buy the new sim.
9900k oc, 4090 and 8kx.

Yeah, 2024 isn’t worth it.

Not only is it bad in VR, but you have to keep switching back to your control bindings files every time; you can’t do a cold start without a walk around to remove covers and stuff (which is impossible to get working for many people); in my region, setting the date to summer doesn’t work ( there is snow where there shouldn’t be) . I could go on and on

I’ve got an issue where Remote Desktop / Windows Mixed Reality on Quest 3 will display the game but I cannot enter into VR mode as I’m getting a ‘no headset recognized’ error.

I’ve had problems with those also. After many discussions with Meta, still no solution.

WMR doesn’t interact with Q3 at all

Agreed, can’t get my Pimax controller to interact with instruments/knobs in any of the cockpits. X-plane 11/12 a clear winner when it comes to VR.

I have been able to get my left Valve Index controller to work much the same as 2020 but my right controller is missing the default bindings which the devs said they had added in the release notes “New default input profiles for Valve Index Controllers”.

For my part with this material:
Ryzen 7 5800x
RTX 2080 super 8GB
32 GB - ddr4
Windows 11 24h2

Virtual desktop, no openXR!

Setting to auto for VD and to rtx 2070 (which logically corresponds best to my card), headphones at 80 Hz (including in the original meta settings).

Setting FS2024 - Dlss to super DLSS (I use the mod).
Almost everything on High, and some settings on ultra (cloud in particular).

FPS at 60-72 fps

FDM panel readable when moving very slightly closer, needle no problems with readability, no stuttering, fluid much more than FS2020 for my part.

With FS2024 I was finally able to fly in VR through New York without slowing down!

A few drawbacks, however: to display the top panel in VR, a big hassle…
Significant clipping, objects, buildings, trees etc. are displayed with a slight delay, regardless of the settings, low, high, medium, with a large cache or not the same…

Overall really very good, but there is still work to be done…

Thing is, for those of us who have spent big bucks on high res VR headsets and PCs, even with a 4090 the performance downgrade from FS 2020 is deplorable. Now, finally, with retina level displays coming out, there’s no point to them in this sim, as it would be a slideshow.

If DCS can get their act together in VR, Asobo should be able to as well. They need to be pressed hard to fix the poor optimisation of VR, or be called out for deliberately misleading their customers.

It’s not an improvement, it’s worse. VR has not been worked on as a separate arm of the sim, there is zero evidence that is true. The “partnership” with Pimax is meaningless BS.

My take is that they just copy pasted 2020 code and called the day… No optimization done with this engine. It’s unacceptable having 30% less performance…

great, so its not just me and my rx 6750 xt that has ■■■■■■ performance, now i know that my gpu isnt slow and its actually the games fault
edit: i played dcs in vr and found out its so much better than msfs (even 2020) in vr, mainly because theres better ways to interact, like setting a hat switch on the hotas to act as mouse wheel, and right/left click, using the vr only as a “monitor” and a way to point. Also, dcs has much better performace and gameplay (although kinda apples to oranges on the gameplay comparison)

That is why I’m not buying the sim until VR works properly. If they want my money I want a decent VR.
