Walk around with Cold Starts of Airplane

So we now have the requirements to walk around the outside of the airplane and remove covers and tire breaks.

Is their a simple key you can hit to avoid this? Can you assign that to the co-plot?

I have not seen an option to avoid it. There is an existing wish:

Hi,
No, you can’t start cold and dark without the revision.
I’m having a bad time because I have a freezing screen when I move the mouse in the revision, and I have to close the sim with Cntl+Alt+Del.
I want to start from the tarmac cold and dark, but I don’t like the previous revision. I would like that it was an option or there was a way to skip that step.
In the meanwhile I’m starting on the runway.

I’m still trying to figure out how to move my character around and click on the chocks / pitot covers / etc.

I set the keyboard back to FS 2020 keybaord so that uses ASDW like video games to walk around.

I was able to use W-A-S-D with the 2024 Keyboard profile. I just had to figure out Ctrl+C to take control. I still can’t remove the chocks. I was able to check everything else, including removing the pitot cover. But clicking on the chock button (they call it a ‘Pin’) does nothing.

You have to walk up to the chocks and click the chocks not the pin! I know it is stupid… You have to be close enough that the middle of the PINS go blue.

The pin is blinking blue. I got as close as I could, but when I hover my cursor over the chock the tire status is displayed. I’m giving up for the day so I don’t lose my mind trying to figure out this confusing and counterintuitive interface.

Thanks for your help.

Select a custom starting spot with no altitude close to where you want to be Cold & Dark.
I read a post here today somewhere that said that process works quite well to avoid it.
It might be worth trying!

Use your mouse to face in the direction you want to go “W” makes you move forward, “S” is backwards and “C” makes you crouch down.
Just click on the chocks, and covers to remove them.
Press and hold Shift C for a couple secs to get in the aircraft!

Thanks. I got the maneuvering part down. The problem I’m having is that clicking on the chocks does nothing. Pitot cover? No problem. Tires, ailerons, rudder check? No problems. But the chocks refuse to get out of the way.

I need to step back from the computer until my new water pump arrives. It just started making a horrible noise and I can’t afford for it to fail and toast my GPU. I’ll be back in a week or so.

Yup, you wouldn’t want to fry that.
I found that you have to get pretty close to the chocks before you can click on them. They are a bit fussy.

I used the ‘W’ key to get as close as I could. Do I need to use the ‘Crouch’ keystrokes to get under the wing? I was close enough to the tire and the landing gear to check them.

Make sure you are right in front of them, and not off to the side any.
I didn’t have to crouch, although I did try that!
What airplane air you using?
Some (like the A320V2) have the option in the EFB to remove them.
I haven’t found anything like that in the max8 though.

The new Optica. Once I get my computer repaired I’ll try another plane.
Nothing I could find in the EFB (it’s entirely possible I’ve missed it, though.)

It’s in the page in the A320 on the EFB where you open doors, connect GPU etc.

I’m more into GA, so maybe I’ll test the new C172 next.

I think you have to do the walk around in the smaller aircraft.

Yes, but maybe the problem I’m having with the Optica walkaround is aircraft-specific.

Trying another GA plane might prove that. Maybe you (or someone else) could load into the Optica and see whether you can remove the chocks. I’m stuck in the mud right now.

An idea to get around doing the walk around: Start running on a runway, taxi to the ramp and shutdown. Practice correct shutdown procedure and when this is done begin the flight anew. The EFB can hot send a flight plan to the avionics, so the GPS should be useful, one would think. May try this out today in a GA single or twin. Cheers!
