Nice dawn flight back to YMML. Beautiful sunrise!
Proceeded with another short leg of my flight from Belgium to mount Etna.
Today, Zweibruecken (EDRZ) - Schweighofen (EDRO). My previous leg should’ve ended in EDRO, but that didn’t work out. My original plan was to go straight to Strasbourgh, but that would take me to a bunch of restricted areas according to Sky Demon, so I’m going around that via EDRO.
In order to not get lost again I did the following:
- Do a short leg
- Track the path on a sattelite image map
- Prepare clear land-marks using that map, mostly towns, montains and valleys
- Correct for wind - but again took surface level wind
Loading the previously saved flight worked without problems. But the toolbar is still missing. Engine was off, fuel was just as I left it …
Anyway, the flight started off at Zweibruecken with rain, so I was doubting to go. But weather in Windy looks ok with no low clouds and little rain further down. This also matched the simulator during my flight. It has to be said, when it works it’s really nice.
The FK9 ultralight is really wonderful to fly. The only thing I have is the rpm seems to be influenced by the wind more than I would expect. So the RPM would vary significantly, depending on where the wind comes from. I find that something I have not noticed in real life, so it seems kind of strange.
Anyway, everything was fine, I found my way, until I had to locate the EDRO which was a little more challenging than I thought, it was very hard to spot.
Finally, SOMEONE told me runway 08 was in use, which means landing with a tailwind. I’m not sure why the imaginary field commander didn’t switch to the more sane RWY 26.
It was a challenge, resulting in two go-arounds, but in the end a safe landing.
Next up, Strasbourg.

One of the way-points along the way was Bundenthal-Rumback, in the valley up ahead
I thought I spotted the airfield, a big grass field just underneath some kind of race track.
But it was not the airfield at all (gasps). This was:
You can’t see it? Wait, a little closer. The hangar gives it away …
Left hand downwind, runway 08 (whyyyy)
After two go-around, I seem to be on a reasonable glide-slope
Parked safely.

Flew from Campbell River CVBL to Vancouver CYVR. The flight was smooth and the approach executed perfectly. Once on the ground it was insane. I have never had Ground Control so busy. It took me 20+ minutes to reach the gate. Aircraft pushing back, needing to taxi, arriving, etc. Frequently told to hold my positioning less frequently be allowed to taxi (unless I started to taxi). Taxying aircraft spinning round on their axes. I got there in the end but Ground ought to have been on top of things.
Visited Geribaldi in Oregon USA because of a game called Life is Strange. The town in the game is based on Geribaldi. I waz bit underwhelmed since I can’t say I recognized it.
Using VOR to VOR navigation, I flew the Junkers 52 from Stuttgart to Munich. It was a fantastic flight, and no issues with the weather. This aircraft feels like it would be complex to fly in the sim, but it’s a joy to fly. A nice break from the “engage autopilot” and sit back flying that I’ve done in the past.
Like yourself, I am presently enjoying flying the Ju-52 “hands on”.
I’m now flying the old Luft Hansa route that starts in Berlin and travels through Vien, Budapest, Belgrade, Sofia, Saloniki and finishing in Athens.
That is amazing! I’ll have to look into that route for sure!
Flew Rochester to Buffalo and back to Rochester in the Islander with a Caribbean style stop at Genesee County Airport both ways, (Route A) under my new series idea what would happen if I operated my own airlines
Flew around NW Wales, checked out new Portmeirion scenery, and some of the older, trusty add-ons. Really impressed by the aircraft carrier add-on with small groups - not that large mass of anachronistic flat-tops - even one IJN group north of O’ahu (have to check them out). Caernarfon scenery, quite remarkable, was departure and destination.
Completed the B route last night I’m for my crate my own airline idea based off of Denver Connection but my airlines would be Rochester connection the route was Rochester to Elmira in the Embraer E110 with a Caribbean style stop in Dansville both ways I think I’m having fun with the Rochester connection idea can’t wait for the bigger turboprops to come for greater fuel range thinking about actually setting up as a virtual airlines in the future after we get the three Main turboprops (Saab, ATR, and dash 8)
Tried to continue my trip with a leg from EDRO to Strasbourg. But crashed halfway through, sadly. Event Viewer says “0xc0000005” which appears to be a memory access violation. But could be just out of memory, I’m not sure …
Oh well! Doesn’t count, better luck next time. Weather was terrible anyway.
This is how far I got:
How was the 145 reaching the summit? My 135 struggled for altitude close in to the slope. I had to backtrack to Gotemba, climb to above 12 thousand then approach the crater from above. Bypassed the station and dropped down into the caldera.
H145 ascended just fine to the top. I did a spiral around the mountain, but it still had good control at the summit. I think 145 is a nice step up from 135 in terms of the flight model. The flying seems smoother.
Never been to Northern Ireland, even in P3D. Had a look about an “old” helipad scenery. Mostly the Belfast area. Did not load any embellishing add-ons as they were also “out of date”. Was content to find a small bit of work denoting the location of the Harland and Wolff shipbuilder facility. The heli-base for this livery is where it should be; a rarity at this early period of scenery making. Cheers to the creator.
After a long weekend I continued my southward flight, this time from Biskra (DAUB) to El Golea (DAUE). To my considerable surprise the weather was so cloudy that my request to VFR was denied. Rightly so, because visibility was less than the length of the runway. Luckily not long after departure the cloud base got way up to about 11000 feet, so I could marvel at the almost Martian like ground.
