What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

Out Skerries did it with the Grumman Widget

The other one I didn’t, even if I landed in many many airstrips in Papua New Guinea (inspired by Missionary Bush pilot)

Be careful. You will probably get eaten there!

But Lower Loon Creek is not safe either. Even with zero luggage, pilot weight of only120 lbs, and only 5% fuel (which lasts for about five minutes) and full flaps out I still could not manage one single take-off. Except with this crazy overpowered STOL “Monster Truck of the Skies” bushflying plane mod.
This Lower Loon Creek is the most beautyful airport, but in need of (very) special airplanes capable of STOL.

But only parking up there and playing around with the cockpit functions is already impressive.
Like it was some expensive flying mobile home…

And finally a weather radar! The first weather radar in the classic Cessna Chancellor!

Finally got around to trying out a Helicopter, the H135 by Hype Performance Group. I believe it was the first Helicopter for MSFS.

Not sure about the flight model: I didn’t instantly spin it out of control and crashed … this has been my experience with helicopters.

So I took a little flight from EBOS, over the beach, landed in a - large enough - field. And returned home to EBOS. I then spent another half an hour trying to taxi to my parking spot. I honestly thought taxiing with helicopters was easy but it was actually extremely difficult.

Some observations, my control’s reactions are quite abrupt / twitchy, I move and the whole helicopter moves without any delays (inertia). If anyone knows why, please let me know!

That made it really easy for me to overcorrect stuff. My rudder works by twisting my stick, so I cannot let go of it AT ALL. I must hold my stick firmly and twist and turn it in just the right way the whole time … …

But it’s an impressive thing knowing there’s not actually support for helicopters (yet). I did get a good feeling of how helicopters controls works I think: yaw, pitch and roll. How the energy is managed etc …

All in all, tense stuff but I can see how helicopters are totally great in the MSFS world. It’s crazy they weren’t in the sim out of the box.

OK, flying a helicopter … how hard can it be?

Where’s the ON button?

After flipping some switches, looks like the spinning bits started moving …

This guy, who-ever he is, seems totally confident this will end well … who’s going to tell him?

It works! Throttle forward, cars get smaller!

Laters!

Trying the hover, which is the only thing a helicopter is good for, let’s be honest

Made it to a field! Still alive. Time to go home.

I’ll just “taxi” here (I accidentally parked it on the runway, twice)

Attempt 1:

Attempt 55:

Somehow still alive, I think my helicopter’s “feet” are pretty much trashed from scraping over the tarmac. But the guy next to me is still very relaxed, a little TOO relaxed … “pan pan medical” … (also I myself am invisible, it’s weird but you get used to it)

This is my favorite thread on the forum, btw!

Today, I flew over (and/or through) Angeles Nat’l Forest, CA. We always called it “the back way” going from Lancaster to LA.

I used to be PETRIFIED of the drive through there. No idea really why. Maybe the somewhat narrow roads, heights and steep mountain-sides. Also, getting car sick was a frequent thing in my youth. :man_shrugging:t5:

I then checked out Yellowstone Nat’l Park. Absolutely stunning. Screenshot included.

Then topped off today’s travels with a flyover of Garden of The Gods Nat’l Park in my home state of Colorado.

Seems to be running okay today w 2 out of 2 tries, maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket LOL
1st one is Euclid Beach Park archway (there used to be an amusment park here when I was a kid:

The wifes Hospice room, spent alot of time on the lakeside here, when we were kids we used to hunt rats with bb guns here at night, also filmed a couple epic WWII home movies as well.:

And this one is the hospital next door that when we were kids we used to sled ride down that tiny little hill there, all that stone along the lake wasnt there back then if you took a right, you went into the lake heheheh:

Hoping the lottery holds out here … not holding my breath though.

Downloading and installing all island airports I was able to find… Mallorca, Ibiza, Seychielles (or however this is spelled), Jamaica, Hawaii, Dominica, Madeira, Las Palmas, Menorca, and more.

But also more exotic airports Anchorage and Alaska and northern Canada, Paom Nome, Yellow Knife…

73 new airports in highly exotic locations  the adventures are endless.

I always had that creeping feeling that there might be something else than Lower Loon Creek… the truth is somewhere out there.
