What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

Still Easily One of the Most Recognizable Approaches in the Sim

I was wondering how Pilatus PC-6 would behave in short strips and I knew that the new world udpate had plenty of them. Today I decided to test PC-6 capabilities and at the same time visit for the first time that big island divided between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Randomly selected Kiwi (WAUG, 1,319 ft long with 60 m descent on the topographic map) for departure and arrival at Ambisibil (WAUA, supposedly 1,301 ft long, but no more than 2/3 available for landing).

There were many no-gos, including an inexperienced pilot on that plane, trees at the end of the strips, mountains at the approach at Amibisibil. To make things worse, the Littlenavmap window stopped working after I mistakingly pressed “pause” on the keyboard (I was using a VR headset) and I deviated north while contemplating that beautiful landscape. Managing to get at Amibisibil, I missed the airstrip twice, since it was hidden by the surrounding elevations.

Before take off check: no go.

Wonderful place to get lost.

But the most adventurous part was landing: I had to loose altitude after the elevation nearby and trees prevented the use of part of the runway. I managed to touch almost at the middle of it, but abruptly deviated to the right while trying to brake hard, and then slipped to the left and crossed the runway while trying to correct the first exit. The airplane stopped 1 meter away from the trees and the engine stopped by itself (no damage reported by the sim).

The arrival airstrip (landed on downslope, because the hill at the lower side seemed prohibitive. It was a bad idea.

Not good, but not that bad.

Final.

Seems good now.

And almost impossible now.

Touching almost at the middle of the airstrip.

Stopped with the whole airplane – did not left any parts behind.

Verdict: I’m a capable pilot, but PC-6 is more responsible than me!

Had a go at creating a livery for the C152, still a bit of work to do in cleaning up the rivets and finishing of the tail.

This morning I did a nice flight from Bilbao to Marseille aboard the 787. Unfortunately I lost the magenta line when I approached the star entry and had to hand fly her in. Landing wasn’t great unfortunately. I think I was a little flustered by the unexpected behaviour. :frowning:

Then I continued working on a little switch panel side project for the Xbox.

Cheers.

I worked on my Spad.NeXt Bonanza profile. Got all the Axes, buttons and switches on my Alpha and Bravo mapped. It’s a bit of a grind, but I’m learning a lot about Spad, and I think it’s pretty awesome when it applies its custom profiles to whichever plane I jump into in my hanger.

(I do the camera views in the MSFS profile, since those won’t change much - if at all.)

Having mad fun with the SH-2, this one struck a chord with me. I know there are many worthy amphibious craft, but I particularly enjoy this melding of boat and plane, and A1R have executed it wonderfully. It’s beautiful and simple, and really fun to fly. The first photo was at Torch Lake, MI, after slaloming down the Torch River from Elk Lake. Then the next moment I was all the way at the Gold Coast of Australia, exploring the gorgeous waterways and photogrammetry areas.

I flew in Antarctica with my vision jet. Departure EGAR Rothera base arrival AQ80 Fossil Bluff. These are from the EGAR addon.

It’s fantastic that we get actual scenery in Antarctica with WU13, I think that is possibly my favourite part of the update. Can’t wait until MS get hold of better quality data for the continent as Jorg mentioned in the last dev update.

This addon is really needed to enjoy it I think. I was very surprised to find snowhenge modelled as per real life!

KLNA Lantana Florida to KBCT Boca Raton in the LongEZ

Today I took off from Lantana Florida in “my new” #indiafoxtecho #LongEZ and flew (in a light rain, winds 15 gusting 30) along the intracoastal waterway down to Boca Raton.

Enjoying the AI over satellite imagery view out the window, even though MSFS plants a forest for every deciduous tree, and an obelisk for every palm tree in Florida.

Interestingly, when I shutdown the engine the prop kept “windmilling” for several minutes in the 15kt wind.
