Flying the King air at 3000 ft without enough fuel … thus the left engine died while I was getting a drink.
This resulted in a frantic (but fun) scramble to: stabilize, feather the engine, add more fuel and ultimately get it going again. (all with an Xbox controller).
10/10 experience, would fly without enough fuel again
I went on a shopping spree - got KBOS and KMDW for my “homebase” airports, the TopMach F-22, the Wilga (FINALLY), another “homebase” in Vieques at TJSJ, the Miltech Simulations Carrier Pro addon to go with the F-22… held back on Red Wing Goliath (just cause I can’t see myself flying that bird much with its primitive navigation, though it looks very well done).. Held back on DC Designs Harrier and Fanthom. Fanthom holds no interest, but the Harrier does, but that’s for another day… Believe it or not, I am starting to get into warbirds! Also held back on Pre-ordering the MD-11 from TFDi - October 16th is slated for release of the rough version, so I got time.
Finally doing a leg from GMAD - GCRR (Agadir - Lanzarotte).
I decided to fly a straight line over the ocean. At 10000 ft because of very calm winds according to Windy.
I used VOR to VOR but to my dismay I ended up in the ocean with no VOR on either end going far enough. I guess I could go higher but instead decided to stay on heading. I assume I won’t be THAT far off that there won’t be a VOR later on to guide me in. Also, I can still fly back as I have a lot of fuel left.
Saving the state of the aircraft is now back enabled and it works great. Much nicer to start off in a state you left it.
Since it’s boring straight line over the ocean. I did doze off a little and also watched some wheeler dealer’s on discovery as background entertainment. Actually, I am still flying as I write this. Who knows I may not even make it to dry land!
Have to say those long flights are not my favorite. Especially with somethjing liket he Turbo Arrow that needs quite some babysitting in cruise.
Followed up with KIOW out to Rockford, cold and dark to some practice in pattern at KRFD. You really need to pull power about decision height and citations are too cool for flaring apparently.
Part 1 of a SASEMAR flight around the inland and coastal areas of northern Spain. Asturias, Becilla de Valderaduey, Pamplona, and beginning a sea rescue off of San Sebastian.
Last night was flying the ATR 42 600 from Nassau to Jamaica’s Sangster airport and my Logitech yoke randomly disconnected on the turn onto finial causing a crash
I did last full leg in USA of my Pacific tour in DC-3 in real weather. Tonight it was 2 big airports: KSFO KLAX. Both airports had marginal weather for VFR, so I planned IFR flight. Flying was quite good, but communication was terrible. In San Francisco area the controller was a bit slow. 2 times he notified me about aircraft less than 1 mile away. He should react sooner.
However, in Los Angeles approach I messed up. I was so much focused on the ILS 07R approach that I forgot to tune ATIS to check weather and then I forgot to tune tower to get clearance to land. Only after landing I realized I completely forgot to use radio. And if I would check ATIS, I would know that I should request for another approach, because of tails wind on 07R. That also made it harder to slow down and I was quite high. At least KLAX is huge and runway is long and luckily clear.
Flew the Cessna 208 from MKJS Jamaica to Kingston Jamaica MKJP this time my Logitech switch panel was the thing that went out, I might have to invest in new sim gear
To take the photo for the current Screenshot Challenge, I flew from ENSG over the village of Øvre Årdal to Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway . The flight ended near the village of Lom.
