KGEG to an emergency landing at KOMK in the Dash 7 after the aircraft completely went rouge on me but I got control back but not on autopilot so I was able to bring it on in for landing
Start (again) a new project. https://flightsim.to/requests/sceneries/9437/mariposa-yosemite-airport-kmpi
My dash 7 all of a sudden randomly turned off on a short flight crashing into the Washington mountains
Along the noth shore of Ysyk Kol, from Balykchy (UABL) to Karakol (UCFP) via Issyk-Kul (UCFL), Cholpon-Ata (UAFG) & Tyup (UATY).
Leaving Balykchy:
Approaching Cholpon-Ata:
En-route to Tyup:
Tyup approach. The sun has set, and this airport has no lights! The runway is only 1,822 ft, and almost invisible after dark:
Approaching Karakol. At 6,526 ft, much easier to land the Bonanza on than Tyup!
Parked - just in time!
Flew into one of the most remote and probably unknown airfields in the world, Jan Mayan as part of my around the world trip. So little used that I am only the third person to visit this month according to Volanta.
Flying this far north of the Arctic circle at this time of the year is a real treat.
A 2 hour flight into the middle of nowhere.
Endless sunrise/set in the noon time arctic sun
Beerenberg Volcano on the Northern end of the island is particularly impressive
I hope the Norwegian military doesn’t mind that I made an unauthorized landing on their island! This time of year there should be nobody on the island. The population explodes to a whopping 35 people who maintain the weather station during the summer months.
Used the morning to take the Bronco out to Spain. Such a fun plane to fly!
Enroute to Alicante, still sticking to my flight plan.
“Screw the flight plan, lets drop into that river valley down there!”
Climbing up near Cuenca.
Loitering a bit above the city itself before landing at a close-by airfield.
Made my second training flight with the FBW A320N, this time with FSLTL traffic on, which also meant that I had to use built in ATC, which was of course not willing to give me IFR clearance (No options on the channel except for tuning in other stations) so in MSFS’s mind I flew VFR from Prague (LKPR) to Budapest (LHBP):
It was nice to see all those other aircraft, with real liveries and all that, but the ATC… I’m not sure it’s worth it. On the same note I just can’t wait for BeyondATC to release, I hope it will be sooner than later
After a while I jumped back into the AN225 cockpit for a “short” flight between NFFN (Nadi, Fiji) to NWWW (La Tontouta, New Caledonia, FR).
It took me 4 tries to complete, because I hit I still don’t know what in the night dark runway when taking off (after all the proceedings to load the aircraft and start the six engines), and other one I hit a tree near the destination runway header ![]()
But finally, choosing a depart time ensuring I would arrive at daylight time, I managed to complete the flight!
So it begins:
Aircraft loaded (2x fire trucks)
This time no invisible obstacle hit (stage one completed):
Quietly flying towards destination, no hurry at all, let the sun arise:
Hahaha! No tree will ever get in my approach again:
And landed!!
Unfortunately I had to leave the little bird right there, because it was dinner time in Europe, where actually my cockpit is, and the rest of the crew were not waiting for me.
Today a flight from Egimburg to Liverpol with an A320, which by the way, has bad weather in this area
Which door do I go to?
They are all busy
The photogrammetry in the German city of Braunschweig (Brunswick) isn’t particularly good, and this building - yes, the crumpled one upper centre - is no exception:
But to be fair, it wasn’t that much more aesthetically pleasing in real life.
It began, I was told, as an air raid shelter in World War 2 - the Germans preferred to build above-ground blockhouses rather than underground bunkers - but by the time I spent the summer of 1973 working in it, it had been converted to a printer’s warehouse.
The warehouse manager, the father of the friend who invited me over, lived in a flat behind the balcony you can vaguely make out sticking out of the wall facing us, and that’s where I stayed.
I remember leaning against the balcony railing watching my friend’s father panic that I might go over said railing, as he was under the impression that I had drunk more than I actually had - I’d added a little brandy to some water to kill the taste, but he may not have known that.
I was warned off drinking the water, but it was very hot. Years later I read that at the end of the war the Germans had dumped barrels of nerve gas into rivers to get rid of them, so possibly the brandy wasn’t all that helpful.
Still, fun times. I’m amazed that I could still find the building, even virtually, over fifty years later.
Well I havent done it yet but I’m going to simulate a secret test flight with 737 over Death Valley. I plan to takeoff from Edwards AFB aorund 1:30 in the morning and do some orbits over the desert before returning back to Edwards to land.
Flew the Cessna 172 from Keflavik (BIKF) to Kaldarmelar (BIKA) via Reykjavik (BIRK), Borgarnes (BIBO), and Storikroppur (BISR).
Sightseeing over Reykjavik
Approaching Tungubakkar (BIMS)
En route to Borgarnes
Final approach to Storikroppur. Yes, that is the 2,326 ft dirt runway straight ahead. Guess the aiport staff don’t plow it in winter!
Looks like they don’t mow it either!
Total flight time: a little over an hour. Note that once again according to MSFS, I have more landings than take-offs, though both numbers are wrong!
Flew the Airbus 125 chopper from 6S9 to 12WA after rescuing my passengers
13WA to KEAT in the DeHavilland Caribou
Today is for re-flying my leg from Jan Mayen to Svalborg. Had an unfortunate power blip here at the house midway through. This high latitude arctic winter flying is a real treat!
The noon sun this far north!
Beerenberg Volcano looking resplendent this afternoon!
Driving is so therapeutic in MSFS thanks to Paralell 42🍻
Had a really nice flight inbound for Baltimore flying over the Chesapeake Bay area. Made a quick cut edit to keep it interesting.
