RJGG-ROAH. A favorite run, but I always forget to make the descent early, ahead of the TD, otherwise I end up too high to catch the GS. Will make the run again to do it right.
Short flight from Palm Springs(KPSP - Inibuilds) to San Diego(KSAN - LatinVFR), Iris PC-21, live weather, FSLTL ai traffic.
Leg 3 of California bush-trip in WB-Sim C172 in real weather: KDAG 0O2
Again only 1 short leg before going to sleep with sunrise in California. Perfect weather, wind calm, no clouds, a bit cold when starting engine, but got warmer after sunrise. Again some headwind on the route, but not as strong as yesterday.
A bit high on final, but I took advantage of long runway to be safely above powerlines. In the end it was butter landing exactly on the centerline. Doesn’t happen to me often.
BGGH to BGKK in the dash 7
I waited so long before I finally could write this!
Flew the navigation (EHLE -EDWN) for my LAPL skill test a few times to get a feel for the landmarks and to check whether the wind corrections worked out.
Well, they worked out, because just a few hours ago I passed my skill test! What a relief, and undoubtedly one of the greatest feelings ever. Like having summited a high mountain (a feeling that I also happen to know first hand ).
A very busy day for our client.
KACK-KPVD for a subject interview in support of her next book. LIvely flight as precip and icing persisted all the way down to destination. I increased Vapp a few knots because of stall concerns, but we looked like a popsicle with freezer burn.
She had a late afternoon appointment with her editor in Cambridge, so we took a short hop from TF Green to Logan. The Live WX icing got worse, had to divert into Norwood and got her a nice comfy hire SUV ride from there.
BGKK to SU01 in the dash 7 deciding to take it on a Arctic tour
Last night I managed to fly 2 legs of California bush-trip in WB-Sim C172 in real weather: 0O2 L61
L06
Still nice weather and even less headwind. It was good decision to fly early California morning, because Furnace Creek is in the middle of Death Valley and 200ft below sea level. I guess it can get pretty hot during day.
Flew the Norseman for the first time across a beautiful English morning sky. This aircraft is a beast that is surprisingly fun to fly.
SU01 to BGMI in the dash 7 I went so far north I lost day time
Fifth flight in Flying Iron’s Grumman F6F Hellcat, but my first landing, here flying over the Welsh hills from RAF Valley (EGOV) to Swansea Airport (EGFH).
By comparison with Flying Iron’s Spitfire and Bf 109 G-6, flying - and by that I mean taking off and landing - the Hellcat is easy.
Engine management is another matter. You have to manage engine and oil temperatures, and also manifold pressure, strictly according to the limits laid down in the manual or the engine will die on you. Probably a good idea to set the RPM to recommended cruise level as well.
You particularly have to watch for manifold pressure creeping up from where you set it - especially towards the beginning of the flight, but keep an eye on it. My previous flight I had it set to a little below max cruise setting but it crept above that and the engine died on me five minutes from my destination.
Hopefully, though, I’ve got the measure of it now.
TBM from Finkenwerder to Goteborg.
I noticed the ATC now says letters correctly (oscar oscar, instead of OH OH).
BGMI to ENSB in the dash 7 on my Arctic tour this time there was a hint of daylight on the flight
