What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

In the past few days, we’ve flown Mission Boston over Normandy twice: once in daylight and again at night. We’re a little tired now! You can read our special writeup about this historic flight and historic day at our Pee-Wee and Nag’s Sky Tours (and Other Thoughts) thread.

Stay tuned: we’re finishing Part 2 now.

Special thanks to jamespejam at flightsim.to for the custom paint, and to Pee-Wee for the custom nose art.

This sure doesn’t look like “Peoria” to me.

We followed the mission plan to the “T.”

Doing it for real.

Gosh 23kts crosswind, can the Beech handle that IRL?

I did a flight last night in Iceland with a 49kt crosswind at altitude. I was crabbing ~15 degrees!

Apparently not: specified demonstrated crosswind component is 17 kt. And clearly neither the Bonanza or its pilot, i.e. me, could handle it in the sim either! I was quite some distance off the runway when I finally took off.

I arrived to France on my tour around Atlantic in TBM-930 in real weather: EGHC :airplane: LFBD

It took me some time to convince to convince ATC that I wanted to land rw 05, because of favourable wind, even though it wouldn’t have ILS approach. And then very good approach turned to almost crash landing, because I wanted to take screenshot before flare, but pressed wrong button and didn’t flare.

I seem to have entered a phase where I pick airports with howling winds! A few days ago I posted about a flight from KSEA to CYVR with strong winds, yesterday I flew in Iceland from Vestmannaeyjar (BIVM) to Reykjavik (BIRK). And this is what I saw lined up stationary on the runway:

I must admit I have NEVER seen 37kts IAS while standing still on the ground! Fortunately it was pretty much straight down the runway.

And then on route, still strong wind from the side.

Little town of Grindavik

Arriving at Reykjavik. Yes, I am a bit off the centreline of the runway. But I thought I would give the church steeple that you can see in the picture a bit of a wider berth…

On the ground at Reykjavik, and I noticed another church between the hangars

Turns out there are quite a few churches in Reykjavik. It would appear that autogen made them bigger and more extravagant than in real life though.

Number of steeples visible in the distance.

Some lovely, interesting images showing lots of activity Dan. You clearly have a good selection of good addons plus good display quality.

The sim does most of it with the graphics. Thank you for the compliment, SlabsFly. Oh, I have to give a supreme bow to the creators, pay and free, who’ve made places I have experienced or want to possible and vivid.

Did the Friday Fly In / D-Day Memorial, did a flight past the Canadian Vimy Ridge Memorial

For the record, the plane didn’t end up well after the first picture

I apologize if this is considered “cross posting” please just let me know if it is.

Looked at yet another underwhelming marketplace update

Today I continued my personal quest at flying over ancient cities (I found Babylon!) and made another attempt at finding Uruk ( modernly known as Warka) haven’t found it yet but I think I’m getting close to finding it, In the afternoon I spent time flying around The Bahamas and Puerto Rico!

We finished the writeup for our Mission Boston recreation today, and can’t wait to try out the newly released AH C-47. You can read the conclusion at Pee-Wee and Nag’s Sky Tours (and Other Thoughts).

We logged three minutes of instrument time. (Yes, there’s a C-47 in this shot.)

A little midnight surfing.

This certainly doesn’t look like Spokane.

Have we really been flying that long?

A brief rest, then right back at it.

Pee-Wee says: Thanks again, T.O.! :kissing_heart:

I’ve been unable to fly since last November for various reasons. I was flying from Alaska down to Argentina in my PA24 and had got as far as Mexico but after so long away I decided to abandon it for now and come back to it, perhaps travelling the other way, some time in the future.

I’ve now started a journey from Hammerfest (Norway) to Cape Town (S. Africa) and completed the first leg this morning after planning out my route last night in Little Navmap.

Fifty six legs which should all be around 1-2 hours in the PA24. The diversion near the end of the journey is to take in the Victoria Falls and a flight along the Skeleton Coast. Other than that it’s pretty much a wibbly wobbly route directly down!

Hammerfest:

First stop off, Kittila:

I need to get back into this and remember to take some inflight screenies, it’s a bit of a faff in VR but not too hard not to bother.

This was a flight for my virtual airline, SkyTeam.
