I am exploring some of the strsnge airports in MSFS, in this case Pico Pico, located on one of three small island in the Atlantic West of Africa…

A new aircraft appeared in my Hangar last night. I needed a lot of space for my first flight, and the water aerodrome at Sault Ste Marie met my requirements perfectly. Here we are, just after taking off:

Lake Superior makes a great training area for water landings and practice with the water scoop! Flying past the land-side Sault Ste Marie (CYAM) on my way to the training area:

No problem filling her up!:

Two unsuspecting islands just north of CYAM make perfect target practice:

Water Away!

Practice makes perfect:

This aircraft just devours fuel! Time to head home. On final to CYAM:

First land-side landing. Almost made the centerline!:

Did a lowkey flight from Springfield to Colorado.

Don’t worry folks, no Simpsons joke. Didn’t realize I would have offended someone with it

Alice Springs to Sydney. Thought I’d concentrate on the 736 and a few off-the-beat liveries.

Second flight of the day in the De Havilland Canada CL-415. This flight was to familiarize myself with the handling of the aircraft.
We start of at Bloodvein River (CZTA), in the Canadian province of Manitoba:

Our destination is Winnipeg Intl (CYWG), 126 NM away. It is not long before the weather turns. Good thing the windshield wipers work!

Climbing to 8,000 ft, we break out of the clouds:

and stay at this flight level for the cruise portion of the flight:

We start our decent on the outskirts of the city:

and prompty drop into pea-soup:

Intercepting the Runway 31 glidepath:

Runway in sight!

Landing looking good!:

And just in time too. No sooner did I park than the skies opened with a vengeance!:

Today we made the crossing from Goose Bay to the bustling Narsarsuaq in the TBM 850. Still some rough spots getting her out of the gate, but once we were up to cruise altitude, it was mostly smooth sailing.

There’s just something special about an early morning departure. Almost as if endless possibilities are at your fingertips.

Once we punched through the cloud layer, the flight became much more smooth.

But before too long, we were met with a bit more weather. it was a cold morning, so it was time to turn on the de-ice systems.

Is anyone actually at the controls of this thing?

Crossing over the Labrador Sea was beautiful in a desolate, stoic sort of way.

The arrival down into Narsarsuaq was definitely a bit tricky. Everything was white, even most of the runway.

Ah there it is! And not a moment too soon. At this point I turned off the AP to fly her by hand the rest of the way. The tops of those trees were getting a bit too close for comfort to trust some computer to bring us in safely.

Finally on the ground after a long flight (at least for what I usually do in the TBM. I’m impressed that the Airbus made it into the airport!

BA7335, London City to San Sebastian on the French-Spanish border in the Fenix Babybus:

The arrival from the north looks like a bit of a whirlpool, crossing overhead the SSN VOR, before descending out YESYO for the RNP Z for runway 22 :cyclone:

Made the hop over to Keflavik from Greenland. I seem to be finally getting a handle on AP climbing in the 850 without triggering a stall; my first couple of times I lost too much airspeed and went into a dive. We faced some icing conditions alone the way along with flying between cloud layers, but there wasn’t much of a choice: the upper layer was close to my limits and I didn’t want to put us at risk for even more turbulence. BATC did a great job vectoring me into our destination, although I have ceased using my own voice simply because I need the co-pilot to handle the radio while I fly the plane and hopefully not get us killed! This was especially true on the approach. The co-pilot did a great job though, even if he isn’t too talkative to me during the flight. Go figure.

Another cold day. Time to get her started up and that heater on!

Climbing out of Narsarsuaq. You definitely want to keep an eye on the terrain for this particular climb!

I was really pleased with how ATC vectored us in and the ILS worked flawlessly on the 850.

Shall we race?

Flight #3 in the Canadair CL-415. The National Forest Service has requested assistance for a forest fire raging in the North Cascades. The closest available tanker is in Lewis County, WA, and has been tasked to assist.

About to depart Toledo-Winlock Carlson Meml (KTDO):

Spectacular views as we head northeast to the east side of the Cascade Range:

Lake Chelan way below us:

Heading north up the Okanagan river:

To our firefighting base at Tonasket Municipal (W01):

We will be using the Okanagan River by the airport as our water source. Stay tuned!

Decided to make my own runway, a building told me that’s not allowed, it actually looks like the nose of my plane is stuck in the building.

Flight #4 in the Canadair CL-415. It is 08:00 hrs at Tonasket Municipal (W01):

We are tasked with putting out a fire in the Loomis Natural Resources Conservation Area, about 18 NM away. First, we need to fill our tanks, so we head north along the Okanogan River to Oroville:

Oroville is located at the south end of Lake Osoyoos:

Which is perfect for our needs:

With full tanks, we head to the drop zone in the Loomis NRCA:

On approach to the drop zone. The huge fire is straight ahead. [Note: to see it in the screenshot, you need to be wearing rose-tinted 2020-to-2024 converter spectacles!]

Water Away!:

Rather than refill at Lake Osoyoos, we can use Palmer Lake nearby:

Repeat as many times as necessary to put out the fire. Once the mission has been completed, return to
Tonasket Municipal:

If you are interested in flying this mission, this flight plan will help direct you:

Had trouble sleeping, thought I would do a nice long flight
From Winnipeg to Alaska, I think the ETA was 5-6 hours.

No real reason for going to Alaska just randomly chosen for a nice long flight.

Last night did a quick flight in the Beech 18 from Port Hardy to Alert Bay. Here’s a couple shots from that flight.

Then I flew the C-46 for the first time in a long time. Used Everts Air Cargo “Maid in Japan” livery and flew from Anchorage (PANC) to Wasilla (PAWS) in some slightly rainy weather. Good short session over all.
