I was pretty sick for over a week and didn’t much feel like flying for much of the last two weeks, so today I broke out the PMDG 777-300ER and flew from IniBuilds’ Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International (HKJK) to IniBuilds’ Dubai (OMDB). I have never really flown much in Africa, let alone eastern Africa, so this was a fun flight for me. I fiddled a bit with the time so I could appreciate the scenery on takeoff and climb, but returned to “live” time for the last part of cruise, descent and landing to appreciate the moonlight, the nightscape below, and Dubai at night. Best of all, after having a hard time with my landings recently due to over- or under-flaring, I drastically adjusted the sensitivity curves I’ve been using on my Thrustmaster Boeing yoke and wow, tremendous difference. A little floaty and bit off-centerline left due to a 5 knot crosswind during the flare, but that was a straight up hashbrown BUTTER on this one. I’ll take it.

I was outback hopping in the 930 today as well. Took off from Parafield and flew to Clare, then Pt Augusta, then decided to do some mining flights to Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, Maree and a few others. If you aren’t familiar with the area MSFS shows that there are a lot of lakes out there, but in reality they are all salt.

Today I flew the Virtavia Grumman HU-16 that I converted from FSX to MSFS. This is my first attempt so there are issues and I need to learn some new stuff. But it flies really well and handles well on the water.

I used my homage to the USS Enterprise CVN 65 livery and my modified interior

While I have no nosewheel steering and therefore cannot taxi on land, it does handle nicely on the water

None of the cockpit switches can be clicked on but I use a remote control app that I created for FSX and modified for X-Plane and now MSFS. I can click the switches and turn the knobs that way without trying to figure out the keyboard codes.

All in all a fun day as I really enjoy flying that aircraft.

I had not been to NZ for a while, so decided to fly down the West coast of the South Island. Started off at Okarito Aerodrome (NZHO), stopped off at Franz Josef Aerodrome (NZFJ) , then the short hop to Fox Glacier Aerodrome (NZFO):

Heading on, the live weather started to change as I made my way to Gorge River Airstrip (NZQE):

Fortunately, there was break in the weather that allowed my to land at Gorge River, a wonderful little airstrip right on the seashore:

My next stop was Milford Sound (NZMF). The weather continued to deteriorate:

My plan was to enter the sound at the seaward end & make my way up the sound to the airport:

Visibility became progressively worse the further up the sound I flew:

Until there was none at all:

With zero visibility and a nasty crosswind, there was no hope of a VFR landing at NZMF. My choice of floatplane paid dividends, as I flew 20’ off the surface of the sound until I estimated that I was near the small settlement and airport then landed and taxied to the small adjacent harbor:

This was a fun flight, was a good test of flying safely through pea-soup using only the instruments and Garmin map display on-board, and a pleasant change from the “sunny skies” flights I’ve recently flown.

Well, I walked up to where I last left my plane in Sydney and to my surprise, it had changed again: when I climbed in I found myself in the TBM 850. A bit older than the 930, but a beautiful machine with a lot of character and speed.

The next leg of our Around the World trip took us to Goose Bay, a good trial flight before crossing over to Greenland. While I definitely needed to tame her, once on our way, the 850 was a real treat to fly. The only scary moment was when I took a straight nose dive while the autopilot was on. I’m still not sure how that happened, but we were able to pull out of it about 200 feet above the water. Since my passengers had all fainted at this point, I decided to leave them be and press on to Goose Bay.

We came to the airport just after sunset and following a decent and not-too-bouncy hand landing, we all crawled out and kissed the ground we were standing on. I’ve been told that I am flying alone on the next leg.

Overall, a great first flight in the 850. Now, will I be able to make it in one piece over to Greenland?

Yes, I am aware of those salt lakes and their wrong depiction on the MSFS World Map.

Thank you for the reminder.

Decided to choose a random user flight this one being DARKSTAR (HAIR on FIRE!)* California to Venezuela (we are going WHERE?)

The flight went well, the last time I flew the Darkstar I ended up flipping it in Toronto’s Harbour.
This time was different, it landed perfectly fine, but it clearly wanted to play hide and seek after

Since discovering that going to Scott Amundsen Station at the South Pole is not going to happen due to the stitching meeting there, portal through Space/Time, come up with your own theory here… I visited one of the Southern most survey stations that came with the Rothera pack.
I restarted my flight today from Sky-Blu, heading back to Rothera.

Later, depending if I receive my CL-415 download or not (still waiting), I might continue the German Coast Bush Flight. I made my preorder later in the day on the 19th.

I switched liveries from the Kenn Borek to British Antarctic Survey, I believe they lease from KBA. They definitely come to CYYC for service.

Got a wild Star Trek vibe on this one leaving Sky Blu

Flew the Longitude from Great Falls (KGTF) to Salt Lake City (KSLC) on BeyondATC:

It was a pretty nice flight, I’m not part of the early traffic group on BATC, so I had FSLT fill the skies, but still it was a fun flight. I got vectors to a visual approach, however they took me way too close and way to off course from the runway centerline, so I had to do some pretty scary maneuvers less than 1000’ AGL to be able to land. IRL I’m pretty sure that either I’d choose to go around or that I’ve gotten better instructions to line up with the runway. In the end however I managed an acceptable landing, quite soft, but rather off the centerline.
