I’ve been getting to grips with the Grand Caravan 208b. Thought I’d fly round Africa. Flew out of Gibraltar, south to Africa and the planing to go clockwise round Africa. I’ll draw a vale over how well the flight went. Suffice to say I’ll be repeating the flight tomorrow but here is a picture of it when things were going a bit better.

Still loving the FS20 visuals. sPK

Today I:

  1. I accidentally trashed my old motherboard, so I installed a new one and am trying to tweak it up.
  2. I flew MSFS 2024 around Rio DeJenario (sp?) in the Diamond DV-20 and noticed a few things:
    • Despite having clear and unlimited weather set, (no clouds, no winds, no gusts), some weather still appeared, (gusts, light clouds, fog).

Notice the cockpit instruments are somewhat out of focus and the view out the window is indistinct as if there is a light haze.
[N.B.  How do I get rid of the on-screen compass?]

  1. The frame rates were always high and there was no stuttering that I could see.

I didn’t try actually “flying”, (i.e. Trying to accomplish something.), since I wanted to test scenery and performance.

It should be noted that the visuals were much clearer and more detailed when viewed outside the aircraft.  It should also be noted that I doubt it was simply window haze as the interior of the aircraft was also less distinct.

An additional performance note:
Initially I configured my BIOS according to some instructions on the internet that suggested a number of relatively esoteric tweaks and enhancements.  Though things worked well in MSFS-2020, performance in MSFS-2024 was unacceptable with almost continuous stuttering and jankyness.  Resetting the MoBo settings to their “optimized defaults”, and then setting a few “low hanging fruit” settings:

  • Enable maximum VRAM to be visible to the system.
  • Turn off hyperthreading and virtualization support.
  • Enable XMP mode on the RAM.
  • Prevent the PCI buss and RAM from going to sleep.  (Reminder: Check these in the Windows Power Profile.)

After these few tweaks, the game (MSFS-2024) was much mores smooth but the terrain was still “foggy”.

2020, Nagoya Chubu to Honolulu. Say Intentions handled ATC and crew just fine. I miss the Quality Wings 787, with all the exits working.

Rolled the dice and enabled/streamed the RKBridger New England Bridges scenery I own. Seems to work. The area is slowly looking like FS2020 with the right POIs again. Just need to figure out how to get GAIST 6.1 working.

I thought I’d visit First Flight (KFFA) to see how it looked in 2024:
Here we are at the entrance to the National Park by the airstrip runway:

I enjoy using the avatar to wander around an area after I land, so I walked up the hill to have a closer view of the monument:

On this day, there was a light breeze & it was very pleasant to listen to the birds singing while admiring the view.

There is a sculpture of the aircraft a the bottom of the hill:

The sheds and visitor center. Most of the interpretive signs around the park are of high-enough resolution that they can be read. Paths need weeding in 2024, though!:

I know some think the Avatar in 2024 is unnecessary, but for folks like myself who are unlikely to ever travel to places such as this in real-life, being able to visit these sites in 2024 enhanced my enjoyment of the preceding flight to get there immensely.

I thought I would fly something besides the Bonanza so I figured I would give the Caravan EX a try. Flies nicely on my system.

I love the Baron in MSFS 20 but the exterior textures in the FS24 one look lower res and cartoony to me?

Wow, this is quite detailed! It has been many years since I have been there but that looks just like I remember it. Very impressive, and great screenshots.
