FG-1D Corsair, IFR flight in a VFR aircraft. Joined Capt. Arash stream, VOR nav tutorial.
How did you fly IFR if that plane doesn’t have the instrumentation?
Not as interesting as any of your flights. Been on the sim about 6 weeks now and have decided to fly a potted version of the history of aviation.
Starting at the beginning, flew the Wright Flyer today. Interesting to take a look at where it all began. Not a lot of sightseeing here I’m afraid.
Was multiplayer so I just followed the lead down through the clouds ![]()
Sundarbans is a mangrove area in the delta formed by the confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal. It spans the area from the Baleswar River in Bangladesh’s division of Khulna to the Hooghly River in India’s state of West Bengal. It comprises closed and open mangrove forests, land used for agricultural purpose, mudflats and barren land, and is intersected by multiple tidal streams and channels. Sundarbans is home to the world’s largest area of mangrove forests.
Good company at Goodwood: my Spitfire parked there on the right, I flew from Manchester Barton to West Sussex
Continuing my history of aviation journeys. I’m in the Bleriot now. No ailerons, no trim, no throttle - you can’t take your hand off the stick. Love it. Just done Bleriot’s famous cross channel trip from1909, the pic is the end of the journey near Dover.
Huge step forward from the Wright Flyers record of 255 metres in 1903.
Minor addition to the above, in the absence of a compass as well, navigation was set off on a bearing and keep a keen eye out for the White Cliffs of Dover. Really good to see them growing from a distance.
Going around Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is one of South Africa’s three capital cities, serving as the seat of the Parliament of South Africa. The city is known for its harbour, for its natural setting in the Cape Floristic Region, and for landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is home to 66% of the Western Cape’s population.
The city has a long coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, which includes False Bay, and extends to the Hottentots Holland mountains in the East. The Table Mountain National Park is within the city boundaries and there are several other nature reserves and marine protected areas within and adjacent to the city.
I visited the place in the African part of my world tour in the Albatros and the Table mountain looks awesome. Still Africa really needs some world update care…
Enjoyed the FBW A320 again, after some ctd problems…couldn’t even tell you why it did it and now works fine again!
Few for the first time with my new TB rudder pedals. What a game changer.
I’m trying to gain more experience on Vatsim, but it usually goes like this:
- I check, the vatsim coverage map, decide on a route
- Plan route
- Load up the airplane, enter the plans
- Realise, that departure and/or destination controller logged off
- Sigh
- Back to step 1
So after a few repetitions of the above, I flew from amburg-Finkenwerder (EDHI) to Copenhagen Kastrup (EKCH). Of course destination controller logged off during the flight, so ended up landing in silence.
BUT I had a really awesome sunset during the flight, so that’s kind of a fair trade.
Uploading video, will be available here:
86 minutes of gliding in New Zealand:
Highest altitude was about 12850, runway at 1316, which makes it about 11500 feets gained. Not my best, but not bad either.
Edit: Correction, I forgot about the winch launch, so net gain is only about 10 000’
Did some of this.
