I’ve just left KTEB in the CJ4 where the Live Weather was spot on. Now up in the cruise and my headwind keeps jumping every 5 minutes from 95kts head to virtually zero and at the same time my OAT jumps from -39 to +27 all accompanied by a big ‘bump’ in flight and speeds and power settings go to sh*t. Had 3 overspeeds in OnAir already
Hmm, can icing cause this discrepancy in the sensors?
I don’t think icing causes the wind to change as that comes off the IRS usually. It’s going from nil weather to normal weather in a nano-second
This is related to Pressure smoothing. Please consider upvoting that one.
@CristiNeagu, thank you for pointing that link. I knew there was topic on it!
@Stovie319, could you look at that other topic and let me know. I’ll move your first post into it. Thank you!
It’s going back and forth avery 5 minutes or so so I don’t think that’s really a smoothing issue?
Had the same problem today (and only today! Temperature at FL420 +7°C!! Crazy!) Never had this problem before. I think it was more a problem with the weather server. It was a flight from EDXW to ENAL. I hope this was only short term…
The sim is going from Live Weather to Clear, to Live, back to clear etc repeatedly so I suspect a data issue with the Live Weather server
I am very happy with: Unreal Weather - Live METAR Mod
Indeed, I juggle with the weather MSFS, but most of the time, that’s what I use mod.
It’s nice, but the transition is still a bit too rough for my taste. It’s really weird to see clouds appearing and disappearing in a blink of an eye.
@Neo4316 - That would only happen if you eliminate the transition period in the mod’s settings. By default, the transition span is about 3 minutes.
I had clear when the METAR was anything but. Baro way off. I was on the ground at the time. Exited and rebooted and I was fine. Also had a rare CTD today that happened right when I hit the PTT key in Pilot2ATC.
Where you see that ??
You will need to edit the JS file and then restart the Sim. See the mod’s website for the details.
This really sounds similar to what I’m experiencing. I’m cruising in otherwise smooth air, then about every 5 minutes or so it’s like a sudden big jolt of turbulence, my airspeed instantly jumps up or down by about 40 or 50 kts and I have to adjust throttle to keep from overspeeding or slowing too much, then it’s back to smooth air. It even happed on an approach where I was in landing config at Vapp of 110kts. I looked away for a couple of seconds then hear the stall warning, saw that I was at 85 kts and dropping like a rock to the ground. Seriously? I totally agree this is a weather server bug of some sort.
I don’t think the wind data is live streamed. It’s all simulated internally in the simulator itself. The Live data is only downloading the basic information like whatever the wind speed is currently at on where the sensor is located and at which altitude. Once it’s loaded, any turbulent effect are simulated offline in the sim itself. At least until the next batch of data being downloaded to update the weather.
You’re probably flying through uneven terrain like hills and mountains or even buildings where objects disrupt and change wind direction and speed to turbulent flow, so when you fly through them the sensors are picking up a sudden change of wind direction and speed,
Erm, no. It was happening up in the cruise at FL400
There is a thread on this forum about recent/ongoing issues with Azure ATC servers…
This feels like a server feed issue also.
