Which Aircraft are at the top of your wishlist for third-party devs to make?

I would actually love to see a good fictional plane, but something based on reality. Think of something based on the Darkstar but made for commercial passenger flight, and with the systems depth of PMDG or Fenix. Basically a plane that doesn’t break the laws of physics and might become a reality in the future.

I think you’re thinking of one of the Blended Wing airliner concepts that are currently being developed?

Thanks I forgot about that design. Though it doesn’t have to be that shape specifically. Just something capable of hypersonic speeds that can carry pax and has good systems depth.

Oh, I didn’t understand you meant hypersonic. Blended body isn’t for hypersonic flight I don’t think. It’s for highly efficient cargo carrying by air.

Edit: I take it back, according to AI blended body is especially suited for Hypersonic flight.

A blended body aircraft design is well-suited for hypersonic flight because it reduces total wetted area, improves structural and lift-to-drag efficiency, and allows for the tight integration of airframes and propulsion systems. [1, 2, 3]

Advantages for Hypersonic Flight

  • Aerodynamic Efficiency: Blended-wing-body (BWB) and blended body configurations reduce form drag by eliminating the sharp junction between a traditional tube fuselage and wings. Lightweight blended wing schemes provide smaller drags and higher effective lift-to-drag ratios across varied high-altitude Mach numbers. [1, 2]
  • Thermal and Structural Integration: Hypersonic speeds (Mach 5 and above) generate extreme aerodynamic heating and strong shock waves close to the surface. Blended bodies allow the entire airframe shape to effectively dissipate heat, manage high-temperature chemical reactions, and integrate complex airframe-engine propulsion systems cleanly. [1]
  • Volume and Payload Capacity: The deep center section of a blended body improves structural efficiency and provides high internal volume, which is crucial for housing heavy hypersonic fuel loads (such as hydrogen) and internal payloads. [1, 2]

Very cool info. Yeah, either hypersonic or at least above Mach 1 or 2. Imagine flying around the world much faster than a regular airliner, but in a plane that has a much more modern cockpit than the Concorde and AP systems so you can safely leave the flight unattended while you do other stuff.

Like the Handley-Page “Sycamore” slewed wing SST?

Another bizarre machine:

The idea is interesting, the wing slews backwards for high speed flight and for landing the whole contraption is in the “forward” state presumably to allow for better low speed flight and moderate landing speeds. The passengers sat within the wing section, some 150 of them, looking like they’d be in between fuel tanks. :exploding_head:

The four engines would pivot accordingly and the pilots were in a kind of “pod” that was on the right side of the wing, this pod would also pivot to remain in the straight ahead position, as would the tail-fin on the far left side of the wing.

Runways and airport design would have been very different had this concept gone forward. I don’t know how the thing would have flown - it seems very “forward thinking”

That’s technically a flying wing, which is different… but still a cool idea, too.

What about a Seawind amphibian with a PT6 t-prop!?!?

I’d like to see the Dassault Falcon 20.

Dash 8 Q200 and Q300 is in development:

We’re genuinely not getting a Q400 before World War III, are we

Would love an AW139. :helicopter:
For planes i’d select the Do328(Eco) or KC390 :airplane:

I’m still wondering why have not yet seen the classic Viggen? That Cold War fighter jet is awesome!

I forgot about two - they kind of exist already, but not exactly.

A PC-24 with working cargo door.
A CRJ-200SF (the freighter conversion).

But still the Falcon 20 would be priority for me.

Sling HW

And

PC-12 Pro

It’s just a little guy as USAF cargo aircraft go, but it’s essentially a technology demonstrator, which is I think a smart way to go. Too often the U.S. military goes all in on way too much at once and extends development time way beyond it should have, to the point systems are obsolete when they come out.

Here’s a study contract for a blended wing cargo plane with what is supposed to be a 3.8 ton capacity aircraft. Less cargo than a B-17 could carry, essentially in the space between a C208 and a C-130. Pilot optional.

Something like this could be fun in the sim I think. Being pilot optional, I imagine single pilot operation should be easy.

Junkers JU88 was relatively well known, surprised there is nothing in the Sim
