Wow that is a lot of options. Did you try it using MSFS custom weather? Does P2ATC do a good job assigning runways based on wind in sim?
Itâs currently not possible to read out in-sim weather. So no, P2A does not work with custom weather.
I use REX so no, I have not tried it using the MSFS custom weather. If you tick the NOAA Real Weather box it should be pretty close to what you are seeing in the game.
Oh this can be a deal breaker. Iâm not planning to use REX or any other weather addon. This means there can be a lot of wrong runway assignments I guess.
If you select the NOAA Real Weather box, the runway assignments Should be the same to what the FS2020 weather engine shows. If you go to P2ATCâs website you can download and review the full user guide and see tutorials on how to use the program. Itâs VERY thorough and informative.
Thank you again for this tip. I tried this the other night and sure enough, after 2 or 3 restarts the Standard Polly voices were working. They sound great! For some reason though, I seemed to have better luck getting the Polly voices to work when I DID NOT run as administratorâŠcould just be a coincidence though.
I want to thank every single one of you for all the useful info you provided. You guys are legends!!!
No problem at all! That is what most of us are here to do.
If you do decide to give Pilot2ATC a try, report back to us and let everyone know if you like it or not. Also feel free to reach back out if you need help or clarification on something.
I recently bought P2A after going back and forth for a while. While I generally love the software, there are however a few drawbacks that, I think you should know.
- As previously mentioned, due to limitations in the Asobo SDK, there is no way to read out in-sim weather. So P2A will not work with custom weather, only real weather.
- You can tune and switch frequencies in the cockpit and P2A will sync up, and vice versa. However, it is currently not possible to change the atc audio levels with the volume knobs in the cockpit. You can only do this in the P2A interface. Monitoring two frequencies does work sometimes, and sometimes it does not. I also was not able to transmit on Com2 by using the cockpit only.
- Before starting a flight you have to enter your planed ground speed, average climb and descend rates. There is currently no way to store these in profiles. If you are flying a wide range of planes, you will have to constantly switch these values and if youâre like me, youâll often forget.
- The in-sim squawk mode does not get synced, so you always have to set it to ALT mode in the P2A interface. Setting it in the cockpit does nothing for P2A. This is also a SDK limitation.
None of these issues are real deal breakers for me and most of the time, there is nothing 3rd party devs can do about it.
Please also remember that P2A is still in active deveopment and is regularly improved. And Dave, the dev, is very active on the forums. Support in general is really great.
I have used Pf3 for years both in P3D and MSFS 2020. It has over 100 controller voices, Pilot 2 atc has 2 voices, and if you want to add any they are expensive. PF3 is updated at least once a year. It is great for both VFR and IFR. Free demo, so you can try before buying. The ATC chatter is from the AI aircraft actually flying in the sim rather than generic ATC recordings that have nothing to do with the aircraft around you. They have a great support forum and usually you get an answer in less than a day if you have any questions.
Actually I believe it can have as many voices (freeware or not) as you tell it to, because you can install additional Microsoft voices in Windows for free and have P2A use them randomly per controller. I have about 10 of them with minimal effort (just download the voices and do some simple registry updates). Obviously theyâre not as good AWS Polly or other super-expensive voices out there, but most are passable and do their job.
ATC Chatter for sure adds some immersion to the game, but itâs only superficial as itâs just random chat (often non-stop) and you canât even temporarily silence it so that you can communicate with ATC. Iâve often found myself talking to ATC on top of the chatter because Iâve had enough waiting for 5+ minutes and they wouldnât shut up. Itâs not P2Aâs fault though, just some 3rd party addon that adds immersion.
ps: havenât used Pf3 so I canât compare. But I believe P2A also has a 10-day trial before you buy and gets several updates per year.
pps: just read that "Version 2.6.2.2 has a new license management system that will allow you to reset the Activation yourself if you need to make any changes to your PC." Finally we donât have to contact the dev to reactivate P2A if we need to uprgade hardware in our PC. That had been troubling me for some time now but I hadnât realized they had fixed it.
Then you have your chatter set up wrong. You can set up pauses in between (I have it set that there is a random pause of 1-20 seconds between clips). And when I push my PTT button, chatter stops temporarilyâŠ
Thanks. There are pauses here and there but it can often go non-stop for minutes which can become annoying especially during clearance. Iâll try the random pause, canât remember what Iâve set it too.
Will try that one as well, Iâve been flying in VATSIM lately so havenât used P2A in awhile so I may remember that wrong. Good to know thereâs a solution anyway.
I tried the PF3 demo but it felt a bit static. I may be wrong, but it seems you have to set it up completely before each flight and it wonât change dynamically during the flight. (If wind direction changed at the destination for example). Also, there didnât seem to be a way to use voice recognition (VR) directly with PF3. It relied on 3rd party VR software.
P2ATC has VR built in and uses the Windows VR system to translate your statements into something P2ATC understands. Also, it is nice to have ATC adjust your arrival based on current conditions.
Both products have their strengths so I guess it depends on what you are looking for.
It certainly isnât static and ATC will inform you of runway changes should the weather change at your destination.
One question, do I have to buy FSUIPC as well?
No, it doesnât require the full paid FSUIPC version. The free version will do just fine.
I think the full FSUIPC version is needed only if you want to run P2A on a network (i.e. remote machine) rather than locally.
I really appreciate it thanks ! ![]()
Iâm currently running Pilot2ATC in trial mode, and this seems like a good place to ask a question I have. I use it with the the current Navigraph database, which is also beta-installed in the sim.
In every airport I have visited, at least one of which was hand-built in the sim, the taxi instructions sounded elaborate enough, but they did not comply with what I saw on the 10-9 charts at all.
Where does Pilot2ATC get its airport layouts from?
I am also running the trial version of P2ATC have one question. Before the flight I selected STAR and just at the TOD point the ATC asked me to descend 3500ft. which was the final altitude of the latest waypoint before the airport. Is it because I selected STAR ? Like I was expecting to get some vectors or maybe gradually descend.
Thanks everyone ! ![]()
