Why is MSFS 2024 Not Working in the UK?

Those issues may be bandwidth related (for once lol), I’m not far from there physically and it’s doing ok

Don’t think I will bother buying the Sim as I aint got a VPN at this time, think I will give it a miss for a while.

I would normally say give it a go. But quite frankly, that sounds like a wise decision!

Night and day - 16:00-00:00 and 7:00-16:00 today nothing but loading screen no matter what I tried or how long I waited. Within 25 mins of connecting to a US server using NordVPN (never used a VPN before but this was easy) I was flying. And I’m far from the only one since then.

Give it a couple weeks, yeah

Oh I’m not suggesting that Microsoft has deliberately targeted the UK in any way, it’s just that if you give someone the option of sorting out a mess in multiple countries, and they cannot all be done at the same time, they will almost universally opt to sort out their own country first. Given the general parochiality of American culture, I would say this is even more true for a company based in the US.

UK here too.
Got into sim for about 5mins after a 12hr install process.
Not been able to fly since.
Pretty disappointing launch:-(

Don’t be jealous that america is better.

If I’m being honest, I think that what really bugs people is that they were happy to take a substantial amount of their money in advance for a product that as yet, doesn’t work!

Still not able to fly but every time I reboot the game there more airport and more flights to chose from the catalogue, hopefully it’s a good sign? Perhaps they are activating the servers and it just get time to load everything? I am out of explanations ^^ now it doesn’t crash much when I try to fly, but still get stuck on loading the flight…

I’ve been married to an American for 23 years. Her mother died because she couldn’t afford healthcare. Believe me, I absolutely am not jealous that America is “better”…

Or simply fix it for the biggest audiences first.

Fixing US is probably a bigger audience than fixing EU or simply they fixed what was easiest first at the time.

I for one when fixing tech issues will always take the biggest win first rather than the people around me.

That’s true, but traditionally the UK has been a fairly major market in flight sim

So managed to get on with the free VPN thing… free flight works brill but cannot get career mode to load… actually playable on the steam deck on low settings…

I have a feeling a lot of people here aren’t particularly in-tune with modern gaming unfortunately. At this point it should be a rule to not pre-order (if you aren’t ready for super broken stuff) and to not play on the first day or two. Software development has become so incredibly convoluted even in the last decade that bar a few exceptional cases, this is the norm.

(We love our healthcare system, so flawless and perfect, couldn’t be better at all, definitely not)

Absolutely! But we should not be their Alpha testers!

Oh I agree, this probably should have been classed as some sort of 1 month access to set expectations correctly (even if this should have been expected)

It would have been better to give all preorders access to the tech alpha in the expectation that we would break the system. At least if they had done this stress testing, everyone would have bought into it and maybe yesterday would have gone better!

Yeah the UK probably are a big player for flight SIM world but still not as big in numbers as the US.

The problem is your tunnel visioning on 1 issue.

There was a logon problem, it was fixed, US and other countries prove that by playing.

Now there is a routing issue into EU data centers / CDN streaming so this is just an unfortunate 2nd issue layered on top for EU.

Now whether this is an MS direct issue or major backend ISP networks issue who knows but VPN’ing to other locations gets around it so my money is it’s not direct MS.

Then you also have various bugs and what not on top of all this.

The product does work so there is no pre-order scamming going on it’s simply a chain of unfortunate issues stopping some people from getting in.

People have found workarounds while MS try to fix and if people want to use them then great otherwise sit tight and wait or refund and rant.

Could this have all been done better, absolutely, I personally think going full online is r#tar#ed and streaming potential 60 to 100 mbit a second for content is stupid compared to just having big installs. Very brave but also very stupid, not everyone has super fast internet and storage is cheap and a one off hit.
