Xbox/PC screens go black then CTD

Hello @Brice5884,

This beta build does not contain any crash fixes. The only thing it does is sends more detailed logging info to the dev team so they can better diagnose and resolve Xbox CTDs in a future release.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

That’s is what I doing I took off Los Angeles to kjfk while I was in the middle of the flight my screens went out and then CTD I trying to give right information

Hello @Brice5884,

It’s not necessary to post crash information here. All telemetry and data logging is sent automatically. No action is required by Xbox players to participate in this test except manually opting into the beta build.

Thanks,

Hi @Brice5884,

Please follow the instructions in this post to opt into the new beta test for Xbox players:

Short question - if I just face a black screen without CTD it is also not needed to post a bad report here?

Nobody needs to post reports here. All the data collection occurs automatically for those who opt into this test build.

Hi @SeedyL3205 - sorry to jump in but I am querying whether the instructions given in the post you’ve linked to are correct, as they refer to options and system menu screens that don’t seem to be available?

I’ve posted this in another thread. Forgive me for repeating it but it seems relevant to this particular discussion:

I’m not able to follow the steps listed under the section How to Correctly Enable Crash Reporting So We Don’t Miss Your Data

I am unable to complete the following steps:

  1. Enable Allow enhanced error reporting

This option is not available. However, there is a an option to ‘Allow optional user data collection’ (which I’ve ticked)

  1. Head over to the Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety.
  1. Navigate to the Xbox Live privacy > View details & customize > Data collection.
  1. Now change the You can share enhanced error reports setting

It is not possible to follow steps three and four. There is no Xbox Live Privacy screen, nor any of the proceeding screens. I can also see no option to share enhanced error reports setting.

I’m on board, lets track down this bug once and for all!

Thanks for the callout! The instructions have been updated:

From the Console:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System.
  2. Now select ‘Console info’.
  3. Check ‘Allow optional data collection’

Great, thanks for updating the instructions. That works perfectly!

I don’t think this is correct. On the xbox screen it says this setting “shares data about when nobody is logged in”. Doesn’t sound too helpful.

I think the original instructions were closer. I did

  1. Press xbox button
  2. Press RB until on Profile & System page
  3. Press down to go to Settings
  4. Press A to enter settings
  5. Select Account
  6. Select Privacy& Online safety
  7. Enter passkey
  8. Select Data collection
  9. Set “You can share optional data” to Allow
  10. Go crash the sim :+1:

This option is described as “Send Microsoft optional diagnostic and usage data about your console. This includes app and feature use and enhanced error reporting, to help improve console performance, troubleshooting, and more.” That must be the right option there.

Thrilled that this issue is FINALLY getting the attention it deserves.
Anyone that takes the time to plan their flights, and enter every waypoints only for a CTD or black screens glitch knows how rage inducing this can be.

Hi,

I am taking part in the latest beta version. The avionics screens are now going black at cold and dark startup. Does this get reported back through the game now?

Hi @Jummivana @SeedyL3205, This is a fantastic idea and I will sign up. Quick question, for those of us participating in the program, do the devs want us to uninstall all marketplace add-ons (including airports, planes, and scenery)? Or is it ok to leave marketplace add-ons installed during the beta? Also, how about official MSFT/Asobo marketplace items such as World Updates, Top Gun, and Reno? Just want to check.

You can leave your addons installed while participating in this beta test. As always, however, we recommend removing your addons as a first troubleshooting step if you are having stability or performance issues with Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Can I test it offline mode or just online? Asking because my wifi is slow

I remember Jorg saying on several occasions that telemetry was already being received, before this XBox beta. So presumably he was referring to the PC version, and that no such change is necessary for the PC version, as it’s already doing it?
