XPlane has Nothing to worry about

How long again did it take for proper Vulcan utilization? Nobody knows because it still doesn’t work right, but we’re running on like 4 years? I’ve uninstalled XPL11 when MSFS announced a release date. Currently with 58 hours logged on MSFS I haven’t looked back. Austin is a cool dude, and XPlane has its uses for now, but that’s just it: for now. It was a great run, but a next gen flight sim was long overdue.

I am not investing any more into Xplane. I will be investing in MSFS20 with 3rd addons.

If you only use vanilla XPL with no addons, I feel bad for your passengers. Will you know the difference between approaching the amazon jungle or Anchorage, snow or ice, because Austin uses a laughable generic “plausible world” as scenery autogen and the XPL game only has one season? Haha you can call it what you like but you have nothing on MSFS2020 and this game is only days old at this point

I disagree. X-Plane has a lot to worry about.
Yes the launch has been far less than perfect, but most of the issues can and will be fixed before too long. Once the big issues are fixed and the MSFS 3rd party store takes off, MSFS will kill X-Plane. The core of MSFS destroys X-Plane.

X-Plane is so far behind in terms of real world graphics for aircraft, weather, lighting, the ground and structures. Also MSFS is in a whole other league in terms of it’s modern flight physics, aerodynamics, weather, and surface friction models. X-Plane feels like flying on rails compared to MSFS.

I’m a real world pilot and X-Plane doesn’t come close to replicating real world flight physics, aerodynamics, of impact of weather, and how well the flight characteristic of airplanes mimic the real world. MSFS is as close to real world flight physics and flight characteristics as I’ve experienced in any simulator and it will only get better as they fix the bugs.

Check out this video where one of the MSFS developers explains all of the improvements they made in their modern flight model vs the legacy model used by X-Plane, FSX, & PreparD in terms of the flight physics, flight characteristics, aerodynamics, weather, and surface friction. LINK: https://youtu.be/Bw-opH4f8Qg

Once the major bugs are fixed and the 3rd party store takes off, MSFS will be far superior to X-Plane, FSX, and PreparD in every way.

I am done with LR and XP too. The only thing I wish is that Ben Supnik dropped LR and got a job at Asobo. He is an amazing person and developer, he’s just at a wrong job with a wrong management…

Bottom line, if you want to fly helicopters, XP is still the best choice as well as DCS. XP will still get used by me at least until we get helicopters over here.

This sim should be called “Inop”. I am pretty sure they are aiming at console players not the professional simmers.

Try the Zlin Shock Ultra. With an 18mph (solo) stall speed, it’s just about a helicopter!

Oh believe me it’s a favorite! This sim so far has been amazing for Bush flying.

To those saying this is aimed only at console players, what is the rationale behind Asobo spending so much time on weather modelling and flight modelling if they only expected people to play it with an XBOX controller? I honestly don’t think they would have gone to this much trouble to then forget about simmers entirely.

They clearly had to get the basics right first (the world, the weather, the flightmodel and basic aircraft operation) before tackling the complexities of IFR navigation and systems modelling. I am sure they will get to it, and I am sure they were pushed to launch early by Microsoft for reasons I will not understand. With the amount of bugs present currently this was clearly rushed.

Have patience, this is the beginning of a great time for flightsimmers. I’ve uninstalled X-Plane and can not bring myself to reinstall it despite the severely lacking G1000 implementation in MSFS. I will just fly VFR and manually use the localiser frequencies for guided landings if needed until they sort out the IFR stuff. If they never do, well then I will have to admit I was wrong, but it seems unlikely to me at this point in time.

Everyone here has patience. I don’t think that’s the problem. The problem is whether this sim is aimed at gamers or simmers. A lot of the planes choices are not airliners but they are made specifically for xbox controller, airliners on the other hand is completely ignored…you can’t even code-in the airways beyond the first page in the mcdu. If they carry on like this then I am afraid more people will jump ship sooner or later.

I don’t think you are right, but only time will tell. “gamers” will not have the patience to keep playing this, and only simmers will bother buying stuff from the market place, so it seems like a poor business decision to ignore the part of the player base that has the most cash to burn. Until Asobo states (or proves) otherwise I have confidence that they will be improving the systems modelling for both GA and airliners, and 3rd party planes will be given the chance to shine.

Note I say “gamers” as I too am a gamer (Tarkov, CS:GO, that kind of stuff), but I play these sims for simming and IFR procedures and realism. The novelty of using it as a sightseeing sim with an xbox controller would surely wear off quickly.

How many iterations X-Plane has stepped through to its actual state?

X-Plane is fine for shure but its not an perfect born prodigy and has still a lot to learn.

Are you on crack? The clouds in xplane look AWFUL. They also flash on occasion for absolutely no reason.

MS2020 clouds are 200000 times better than Xplane clouds

A bit strange to deinstall it even weeks BEFORE the release, so you had literally no sim at all? I don’t understand the sense of it but well…

Not really, if you compare both out of the box, MSFS2020 is 1000x better

Well, cloud visuals is a subjective thing, but the flicker I presume you are talking about the x-plane 11.50 beta. I have not seen a cloud flicker since they rolled out release candidate 1.

And I’ve seen plenty of instances where I thought the clouds in MSFS2020 were a tad over done, and that is looks like a fantasy world more than reality. But again, that is a subjective thing.

Though I disagree with your opinion on this, I am not going to attack you or accuse you of being on illicit drugs.

If I can say my opinion as very long time FS user, one last best weather (mean weather as reality) was XP default inbuild weather. Compared many times with reality, other places +/- overfly. Visual page of XP weather was another theme but that was best to this time in my opinion.

I like to think I am an objective individual not joined at the hip to one sim or the other and have no problem saying that FS is the better simulator from an environmental perspective. XP on the other hand is at present the better sim for aircraft and airports in my opinion. How long that will last is anybody’s guess but I will support both sims unless one or the other is able to fulfil all my simming needs and for the moment neither one does.
