OMG

…serious?

You had a try of that Shrike 530F yet ? - the offshoot from Blackbird sim.

Nope not yet. Thinking to get the Alouette though.

I expect with the latest update from Fenix including the performance improvements that we may see this overtake the PMDG

I picked up the Allouette several months ago based on a chat on the forum with a USAF helicopter/ all sorts pilot. He said it was the closest to a real world helicopter he’d flown on the sim. I bought it.
I’ve got so many aircraft i’ve not had a real go in it.
Its gonna take 18+ months to get through them all.
Currently giving 1 week per aircraft (chronologically) to try and get through my ‘fleet.’ Up to 1940 now and the warbirds.

I’d be very surprised if you don’t like the Allouette.

Very unlikely now that the 737 is on xbox.

Ok, it’s down to us to get it up there now

I need to try the 900 variant because that’s the only one out of the 737 fleet I haven’t flown yet but the 600 is the one I’m having the most fun with

Same here.

I bet the Fenix is awesome but it’s still a soulless A320 with a boring cockpit and a fugly airframe  I prefer the 737, the A320’s handsome cousin

I wanted something modern, not from the sixties :face_blowing_a_kiss:

1988 it started isn’t it? :stuck_out_tongue:
Not that much newer!
Back to the Future 2 is newer

You’ve just mentioned one of my favourite aircraft and movies in the same sentence, this is why you’re such a legend

We’ll round up and call it the 90s yes?

In reality the A320 dates back to the Joint European Transport group formed in 1977 whose proposal SA2 was renamed the A320 in 1981 and eventually flew in 1988.

With version 2.66, we bring a slew of new features and improvements to the 47, it feels like a whole new bird! To start, this release includes an optional and switchable IFR panel. With a CDI, DG, and ASI, you are no longer limited to pure VFR navigation. A Garmin GNS 430 compliments the new nav-stack to help you find your way. All new atmospheric physics take many factors into consideration for performance calculations. Watch out for high Density Altitude environments! Handling is improved too! Enjoy new physics-based ground handling, which supports running take-offs and landings. In the air, cyclic feel and throttle response have both been improved. Additionally, we’ve added support for MSFS helipads and helicopter control bindings.

I only did one short flight with the updated B-47, summer weather is simply too nice at the moment :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Really like the improvements like the enhanced instrument panel, improved ground handling, proper helicopter control assignments etc.

For anybody who has issues controlling the 47, don’t be afraid to lower the cyclic sensitivity! With the 206 I normally leave it at 80, but for the B-47 I prefer something like 50.

I given it a bash too. I can actually fly it now. Much better. I guess where I changed the settings to “fix” the 206 in their helper app, has also applied to this one. But yeah the ground handling is pretty nice (the “going light”), but it has very skiddy skids

Sometimes I am travelling quite fast sideways when I “so-called land” until it stops haha.

I figured out what it is about this heli that makes me struggle to settle it. Its the forwards/backwards motion is hard to judge because of the way the glass is justalike a totally clear fishbowl curve. There is no point of reference to the horizon like in other copters, and what with head-tracking it’s hard to know if you are tipping forwards, backwards or flat. So I overcorrect when trying to make it just slow down gradually or hover. Left and right is pretty fine now but I still end up picking up speed again when I don’t want to when coming in or taking off backwards  . I’ll get there - much more enjoyable after I put hours in on the 206!

It’s a beautiful summer here in southern Germany, so I haven’t done much simming … My list for August is basically the same as July, with some slight changes:

  1. FlyInside 47G
  2. FlyInside 206B3
  3. Taog’s Hangar Alouette III
  4. A2A Comanche 250
  5. //42 Kitfox
  6. HPG H145
  7. Shrike MD530F
  8. CowanSim Bell 222B
  9. Cowansim H125
  10. Asobo Cabri G2

I have removed the Nemeth Designs Schweizer S300CBi. It has caused so many people headaches, and with the update to 1.0.2, its flight model issues have been only been emphasized. Really sad, because it could be really great.

My replacement for August is the //42 Kitfox! I still wish the stall behavior would be closer to the real one, but otherwise it really is a pleasure to fly.

And then there finally is the updated FlyInside 47G. We had to wait, and wait, and then wait some more. But here it is, and it is amazing! Either it is easier to control now, or I have learned a bit flying other helicopters, especially their 206. The enhanced avionics stack looks really cool, although I could not imagine flying this thing IFR. Ground physics are a lot better, hopefully this will be carried over to the 206. One of the best things about FlyInside’s heli manager is that you can adapt the difficulty of the flight model to you skill and controls. Personally I fly this one with 50/10/0 (sensitivity/stability/tail rotor), which feels like a good balance between realism and fun.

Great observation, I absolutely agree. I consciously try to use the left upper corner of the instrument stack as a reference point. Similar problem flying straight, it is so easy to get the tail to the side, especially without springs in the pedals. Last night I was flying in Arizona and wondering why I could not go faster than 50 mph. Turned out I was flying sideways and creating lots of drag!

I tend not to fly the same aircraft, or even type of aircraft, for long as I like the variety. My top 10 is therefore somewhat diverse. I also choose certain aircraft to fly straight off the runway (when in the mood for a quick getaway) as opposed to ‘cold and dark.’

So I have a mix of simple vs the more complex as well.

In no particular order :

  1. Biplane : PT 17 Stearman (DC Designs) (with mod)
  • without the ‘mod’ from flightsim.to I’d choose the Tiger Moth. The mod addresses the somewhat high roll rate the Stearman had and it was designed by a guy with 1000+ hours in the real Stearman. Brilliant sound package as well.
  1. Warbirds : Spitfire (Flyingiron) : even the RAF have used this so what more can you say. A nod to the Corsair as well.
  2. Single engine prop : Cessna 152 (with or without JPL mod) : this is my go to when I just want to get in the air real quick, straight off the runway. Maybe the easiest plane to fly in the sim. Great visibility.
  3. Twin engine prop : Beechcraft Model 18 with Denarq mod : a decent amount of complexity in this which yields a certain amount of satisfaction with a completed flight. A nod to the DC3 and Boeing 247 from Wing 42, both excellent aircraft.
  4. Bush/Amphibious : Grumman Goose (Big Radials) : Very easy plane to fly, holds its course, trims easily, great water landings. This will probably get bumped by one of the smaller aircraft when I find time to fly them for the shorter runway.
  5. Observational : Top Rudder 103 : probably flying this at 40 mph. STOL. Fantastic for exploring low and very slow. Fly around the Okavango Delta in this in search of ‘Heffalumps.’ Probably very good for cities.
  6. Trainer : Airmacchi MB 339 (IndiaFoxtEcho) : another I just hop into and just blast off. Fast and very manoeuvrable, 500 mph around the Mach Loop….brilliant. Very easy to fly. This one gets the pulse rate up.
  7. Airliner : BAE 146 (Just Flight) : not really into the big airliners but I picked this up half price some time back. Not been disappointed. Very close to study level, if not study level.
  8. Jet fighter / business jet : F14 (DC Designs) : when I feel the need for speed, switch on the Top Gun soundtrack and away you go. Only aircraft in my list designed for a carrier. May lose it’s spot when I find more time in the Citation. I may also alternate this slot monthly so both types get half a vote each essentially.
  9. For complete diversity, a helicopter is my final spot : Alouette (Taog’s Hanger) : I was recommended this by a real world helicopter pilot as being close to the real thing. I’ve not been disappointed.

So many really good aircraft in the sim, so difficult to limit it to ten, I think I could make 20 comfortably with 2 in each type.
