My June list. I haven’t bitten on the Starship yet as it doesn’t fit the missions I like to fly 99% of the time, but boy, the systems depth is a masterpiece and it brings back a lot of nostalgia reading ā€˜Flying’ magazine religiously as a teen in the late '80s.

  1. A2A Comanche 250
  2. Taog’s Hanger UH-1H Huey
  3. Just Flight PA-28-161 Warrior II
  4. Asobo/Mike Johnson HU-16 Albatross
  5. Asobo/Carenado Cessna 185
  6. Azurpoly Socata TB-30 Epsilon
  7. CAS J3C Cub
  8. Denarq’s Beech 18 Mod
  9. Asobo/Orbx DHC-4 Caribou
  10. GAS Stearman Model 75/PT-13/PT-17 (not the Super)

I had no intention of buying the Starship but I have missed Blacksquare products in 2024 far too much.

I was also very determined not to put it as number one……..

  1. Blacksquare Starship
  2. PMDG 777-200ER
  3. Fenix A320
  4. A2A Comanche
  5. JF RJ series
  6. PMDG 777-300ER
  7. PMDG 737-800
  8. Flight FX Vision Jet (2020)
  9. Rans S6S
  10. JF Turbo Arrow

Here are my Top 10 for June:

  1. Black Square Starship - such a unique plane with performance that makes it great for a World Trip, with the exception of runway length, as it usually needs a bit more to get off the ground.
  2. Cessna Corvallis - This is just a cool looking plane that flies slow enough to do some decent sight-seeing.
  3. SWS Pilatus PC-12 - I’m a big fan of turbo props, and this is another great one with a nice departure from the usual Garmin systems.
  4. Fenix A320 - Didn’t fly her too much this month as I did a lot of practice with another airliner, but she is still the cream of the crop.
  5. King Air C90 - There’s that turboprop theme again…
  6. A2A Comanche - Remains the most in-depth GA plane, but just by a bit. Now if Black Square and A2A could team up, they would have all our money.
  7. Inibuilds A330 - Not the most in-depth, but good for some slightly longer flights and performs well.
  8. PAC-P 750 XSTOL - This one remains one of my go-to for bush flying as I am just tired of the G1000 in the Kodiak.
  9. Aerosoft CRJ series - Great regional jets that preserve even the quirks from the real life planes. Add in Boris sounds and you’re in for a treat.
  10. Draco-X - This plane will go anywhere and do anything you tell it to. Great for getting into (or out of!) those tight spots.

The Starship is very well done. I have not even delved into the systems at all yet, just hand-flying and practicing getting the landing speed and AoA right. Flies really nicely!

Man.. the systems in the starship are so unique, it feels like learning something completely new and kind of the ā€œrootsā€ of glass cockpits. Love it!

I think this is a great way to select one’s top ten. I have more than ten favorite aircraft, and while not all of them are popular (and a few are not deserving LOL), I have been reporting on those I actually flew over the month. Maybe I make one or two adjustments for merit, but no more than two. When we get right down to it, the aircraft we are flying are those that are our current top ones!

Here’s my list for June:

BBS BN Islander

Fenix A320

A2A Comanche

MS/WT VisionJet

Ini A350

Ini A300-600F

Asobo XCub

I’ve been trying to keep it simple this month, after finding that I was spending too much time switching between planes and then setting up new controls for them all the time. Below are my more or less finalised hardware profile reminders for use with AAO, for the planes I do stick to most of the time now - just to demonstrate what I mean.

So my current top 10 is really not a top 10, because I’m paring things back and listing only the true champions. The three standout performers have been the Vision Jet, the Fenix A320 and the Comanche. There is a bunch of other ones that I had been rotating in and out but I can’t pick between them: Bronco, Transall, RJ, Chinook, Bird Dog, CAS Cub, etc.

Still waiting for Sim Update 3 to bring downloadable content, because I own the FSW C414 on the Marketplace and just can’t tolerate dials always streaming in when I switch back to cockpit from outside view. I contacted the developer to ask for a transfer to their store from the Marketplace (with lots of screenshots to show ownership) and their answer was somewhat puzzlingly that a lot of people were asking for this - but they were not doing it. Oh well.

Also waiting for JF’s BAe146 to come to 2024. But then again, I would probably spend more time in the JF Fokker 100 instead of that for a while anyway.

I was sorely tempted to buy the Starship, but I think at the price (which is entirely justified) I will have to leave it for a Christmas or birthday gift. Especially as I’m going to spend something like $90 Australian on the Fokker when it finally comes out. Possible other new candidates for purchase could be:

FFX Citation X – but not sure I really want another MP-only product;

Aerostar by A2A – but definitely not while it is still early access;

Synaptic A220 – highly anticipated for airBaltic routes;

2024-native BN Islander by Black Box - depending on the discount for existing owners.

More detail on my picks:

BBS BN Islander

Always my favourite, but has become more useful still recently because I found a very nice Loganair livery on Fs.to, and have been flying between the Hebrides, Shetlands and Orkneys destinations.

Fenix A320

Still the greatest, and very satisfying to take from Dusseldorf in Eurowings livery to various airports around Europe on flights between one and two hours, with seamless GSX integration.

A2A Comanche

Have been taking this on a tour of all the Burning Blue, Pilot Plus and Orbx airfields that I own in southern England, and as far across as Ireland and Holland/Germany.

MS/WT VisionJet

Probably the best plane that I have for flying in NZ, because the routes aren’t that long and with the lower ceiling of this plane you can actually see the stunning scenery.

Ini A350

Super satisfying to use when everything goes right, which it mostly does. And especially on short sectors that do exist in the real world and still take less than an hour or so (waiting for a decent Atlanta from Orbx for Delta flights).

Ini A300-600F

Continues to be the workhorse for cargo from the Leipzig hub.

Asobo XCub

Another plane for Kiwi journeys, this one for bush strips.

[Yes, I mainly use an Xtouch for the controls, along with HC Alpha, Logitech double throttle quadrants, and a VKB joystick.]

Agreed, though one can slice & dice the data in a number of ways. My June listing ^^above^^ is based on all my flights since 2024 was released. If I look at all my flights just for June, the top 10 change:

Aircraft # of flights
Boeing 737 Max 8
CubCrafters NX Cub 6
Magni Gyro M-24 Orion 5
Piper PA28-236 3
Cessna C404 Titan 3
Grumman G-111 Albatross 2
Beechcraft Bonanza G36 2
Zlin Aviation Norden 2
Saab 2
Airbus A321LR 1
Boeing 747-400 LCF 1
Boeing 747-8 1
Cirrus SR22 1
Curtiss C46-Commando 1
Diamond Aircraft DA40 NG 1
Douglas DC3 1
Total 40

But these include a bunch of performance test flights for the SU3 Beta. If I remove those it then becomes:

Aircraft # of flights
Magni Gyro M-24 Orion 5
CubCrafters NX Cub 4
Piper PA28-236 3
Cessna C404 Titan 3
Grumman G-111 Albatross 2
Beechcraft Bonanza G36 2
Zlin Aviation Norden 2
Saab 2
Cirrus SR22 1
Curtiss C46-Commando 1
Diamond Aircraft DA40 NG 1
Douglas DC3 1
Total 27

I think what this shows is that, like most of us, I have a few aircraft in my Hangar that I fly frequently, a few that I fly for variety, a lot that are rarely flown, & one or two that will be never flown at all.

Which leads me to the conclusion that future versions of MSFS could significantly reduce the number of aircraft in each edition (SKU), focus on improving the quality of those that remain, and not lose customers.

For June, no particular order:
TFDi MD-11
Black Square Caravan
Black Square Starship
Grumman G-111 Albatross
^^Those four comprise by far the majority of my flights, but also:

Just Flight Avro RJ
Just Flight F28
iFly 737 Max
Saab 340
Black Square King Air

I know it’s not 10, but hey, I don’t think anything else is really qualifying this month (sorry other BS planes and A2A Comanche!). Eagerly awaiting the BAe-146, and even though I told myself no more early access, probably the Aerostar; I think I trust A2A enough to go for it.

Also, I wonder… is there a flights/sceneries/airports version of this list floating around out there somewhere?

AMEN to that!

If Asobo would focus on the code and the UI, and let 3rd party devs focus on the aircraft, everything might be better.

It seems like they’re kind of doing that already.

But I digress…

I voted in this but missed the results so I’m a bit late to the party…

You’re telling me the Piper Comanche 250 won Baracus250’s Chart Awards, Best GA Prop, and Parallel Universe Award?
