Zenith 701 (Sky Jeep) from SimWorks Studios released

What are the changes?

Is it in this weeks Marketplace update (week 1)?

-eelis-

From their Facebook page, december 23:

ā€œZenny has received a flight model and engine overhaul, correcting old handling quirks and bringing the plane’s performance closer to real world competition numbers.ā€

I haven’t flown this in at least a year. I remember it had really weird flap behaviour, quite unlike any other plane before or since. Hopefully that has also been fixed.

While it has been fun to fly the competition model, I would really like to fly the standard unmodified 80HP version. If that is what we are going to get I’ll be very happy.

After upgrade ( version 1.7.0 this day), no change for the engine :
target_performance.cfg
[DOUBLE_CHECKS]
max_hp = 135,0.1;

I test it , it continues to have an not realistic engine …

the 0 to 100 Km/h is more quick than a Porsche …

I don’t believe the latest update is out yet.

Regarding the flap behavior, you can disable the auto-flaps by editing a configuration file in the aircraft community folder.

Example - for the aircraft with wheels and doors:

SimObjects > Airplanes > SWS_Zenith701_wheels > model.doors > Zenith_interior.xml

Make a backup copy of the file and then delete this content:

<Update Frequency="4">
	(A:TRAILING EDGE FLAPS LEFT INDEX, enum) 0 !=
	(A:TRAILING EDGE FLAPS RIGHT INDEX, enum) 0 != or if{
 (* If flaps are extended beyond 65mph then retract the flaps *)
 (A:RELATIVE WIND VELOCITY BODY Z, miles per hour) 65 >= if{
 (>K:FLAPS_UP)
 }
	}

Not sure I like the sound of that, at least not for ArkanStol competition. Any chance to split to 2 separate versions so we can still fly the comp version?

Thr entrire flight model has received updates to do away with oddities that existed before and introduced with sim updates.

Regarding ArkanSTOL, the update was tuned in cooperwtion with them to bring the 701 to closer to RL numbers and got rid of some loopholes that made it unfair to use in cases. The plane now flies, takes off and lands very close to our new data, coming from ArkanSTOL and cross-checked with a Zenny pilot in the team.

So no standard version to follow then.

This update we did is an 80hp engine (off the top of my head). target performance.cfg referenced above has no effect on the engine or FM.

For the flight model , it’s seems good !

OK for target performance.cfg ( i test it ) , but without engines.cfg …
So you are shure it’s a Rotax 80 HP engines ?
Near the real aircraft ?

At this moment , in my idea, this aircraft , one the ground , have more power than a sportive car with more engine than the
1 211,2 cm3 carburators of the rotax ( easy to check ), and normaly it’s not possible.

I must make some tests , but anyone have a real 701 can make it :
On fs2020, brake, full gas, unlock brake stay on ground and film instruments
On real life, brake, full gas, unlock brake stay on ground and film instruments
make a compare .

I m not an instructor but i look for one to make this compare film…

I just did a quick 0-60 mph test in the sim - approximately 7 seconds, possibly less with first locking the brakes with rpms already maxed at brake release.

I don’t have any stats for the real model, but as I recall from a real-life YT video, it didn’t seem anywhere near as quick.

Update:
I just located that old YouTube video and to tell you the truth, my memory wasn’t all that good. This bird really jumps off the line. He was at 45mph rotate speed after about 5 seconds! At an empty weight of only 600 something pounds the power to weight ratio must be outstanding!

Short flight in my Zenith CH701 Stol - YouTube

Hello Every one,

I really enjoy the CH701 in MSFS, one of my favorite plane of all time, but some details annoys me a bit:

 • The combo oil / water temperatures and oil pressure don’t response as a real Rotax 912 will do in real life. No oil pressure variation depending the oil temperature. The water temperature keep grow if the RPM stay higher than 4800 RPM. All the engine parameter are not really realistic.
 • The power of the engine stay the same no matter the altitude, I try to climb to see if there is any power / RPM variation, passed FL200 and still 1500 ft/min of vertical speed, no loss of power at all…

Is there any chance from Simworks Studio to rework the engine parameter and altitude variation performance? It would be the icing on the cake!

Beyond that, the CH701 is really really great plane to fly in MSFS (and real life!).

Thanks to Simworks Studio!

@SiRRiPPERORiG I’m considering to buy this addon. But these two points are a no-go for me. Does SWS have any plan to solve these two bugs? (sorry as I don’t have a phone verification on Discord, I can’t post there).

Regards

#1 not planned, but #2 warrants a look.

I see the plane unofficially listed as compatible with MSFS 2024, but as I take off, it always veers to the left like crazy.

Does anyone have the same problem, or is it something with my controls? The rudder pedals seem to be not quite in a correct position at neutral.

The behaviour you are seeing may be normal if that is what you saw under 2020.

On rotation are you pulling sharply back on the stick?

Mine (the Marketplace version, originally) actually performs better than before in 2020. However, I do not have rudder pedals, thus I use rudder assistance.
So, my experience is probably irrelevant to you…
