I have just tried to get setup in this career mode but the airport EGHH (Bournemouth UK) is unselectable. I can see the airport but cannot set it as home. Strange as it is selectable in Free Flight. Do we have to pick certain airports in career mode?

Yes. Not too big, not too small. I went with biggin hill

Ok thanks. I will try that later.

Hello @vengerboy,

Just like in real life, you can’t start your pilot career at an international airport. You’re given the option to choose from many small GA airports to begin your career, and as you gain more certifications and unlock additional missions types, you’ll be able to progress to flying in and out of larger airports.

Thanks,

Great. That explains it clearly. Thanks very much.

If anything - the airport selection only matters for the first couple of flights more or less. You do your training in USA; The initial airport selection only unlocks the missions in a range from that airport and they mostly start from other airports. I perhaps did one flight from Biggin Hill. The more airports you ‘visit’ the more of the map unlocks

So you can fly out of any small airport you are not tied to your first selection?

Yes. In my experience, there are no missions from my selected airport at all among the 100s of missions available across the bits of the map I ‘unlocked’

Ok got it, thanks.

I am trying to figure out how to fly anything other than the C172.

How were you able to do that? Did you purchase it or were you able to select it somehow? Granted I am still early on in my career, having just unlocked the ferry flight missions, so perhaps I need to wait until things progress more?

I think others have asked about how to access planes that become unlocked after completing certifications. Any insight would be great!

Don’t think there’s a way to change the aircraft; But I have come across career missions with aircraft other than C172; Had to do an hour long delivery flight with a 152, saw some others around too

One of my ferry flights was the Robin. Most of them have been the G1000 172 though. Just have to pick through the available missions or unlock more of them by expanding your map (fly to an airport outside your current range).

I think the selector is quite narrow here though. As I’ve mentioned before, both KBED and KOWD have large flight schools in real life but are not selectable as a starting point in the career mode. I can understand a class B major international airport being blocked out, but two airports that are not of that size and have real flight schools IRL seems an odd choice to lock out.

I know this has got nothing to do with the career mode (well, maybe a tiny bit), but at KPRB it had me start the mission at a normal parking spot amongst the myriad of them in the main part of the ramp.

Unfortunately, after landing it wants me to taxi ALL the way to the furthest point on the entire airport to a lone parking spot that the sim has auto-generated in the warbirds museum we have here. It’s a really, really long arduous taxi trip. Getting dinged for speeding at 22 knots when this is taking forever, is annoying.

It would have been far better to have me return to the spot where I originated, so for that I blame Career Mode. For the parking spot, we can blame autogen.

I think I’ve spent more time taxiing than I did flying.

At least it’s in a 172 this time. That feels a lot better than the anemic 152 at those density altitudes!

I foresee a pretty big need for the return of the World Hub. Really big, actually, already. If there are some solid criteria to work with and flags that we can set to prioritize career mode parking spots (maybe even customizable to career type - firefighting, skydiving, etc), that would be immensely helpful.

Hi folks,

I have some good news to share!

Specific to the above point about wanting an option to disable the blue navigation assists in Career Mode, we escalated this to the devs, and they responded by saying that this is already in the sim and you can do this right now! Please see this thread for instructions on how to enable a keybind to toggle the taxi ribbon and aerial blue squares on or off as per your preference:

Thanks,

What aircraft are available for sale at what price?
Thanks!

Thank you for this! It still begs the question, though - are we expected to be held to the pathing it illustrated when it was on? Sometimes those annoying boxes are the only way I know where it expects me to be. A catch-22 for sure!
