40th Anniversary Edition Airports

Sad but true .

Over the years I added much more 3rd party stuff to FSX and X-Plane, paid and free. But with MSFS 2020 I bought only few extra beyond the Premium Deluxe and Reno packages. But I had to buy a new desktop computer, procure a better high speed internet service, and sacrifice as of today close to 300GB on my new SSD, and the regular ā€œlet’s see what MS/Asobo has broken with this updateā€ waste of time. But when things work right, I sure love to show MSFS 2020 off

I enjoy all the newly handcrafted airports but the only issue for me is that there isn’t any IFR procedures (SIDs/STARs and approach) that came with VHHX. The only way to get those is to have a Navigraph subscription which is an issue for those on Xbox. I’m hoping that it the procedures will be brought in with a future NavData update as that would be great to have especially for Xbox flyers.

Since VHHX no longer exists in real life, you aren’t getting any IFR procedure charts or waypoints with Navigraph, either, for this airport. Not sure where you could find historical SIDs/STARs/approach charts, but you’re going to be limited to those, I’m afraid.

You mean you didn’t see the ā€œWet Cementā€ sign?

I tried NYC Manhattan heliport and it spawned me on top of the metallic roof of the heliport building. The heli was wedged into the roof structure too, no chance of extracting myself even with full collective. They need to review spawning at some heliports I think.

My biggest woe is the fact that Kai Tak has no SID/STARs…

Kai Tak doesn’t exist though so it follows that no nav database will have anything related to that airfield in it. The same obviously applies for Meigs Field.

Well that’s not how it works in sim. If you are reviving an airport that has become apartements there’s no reason not to revive the entire thing.

I mean we even gave it a fake ICAO (VHHX).

In another thread, one of the moderators was testing approaches to VHHX and noted that Navigraph actually does include the old approaches in their current database.

Has anyone a clue maybe where I can find the oil platforms from this shot:

I would love to fly out there in my shiny new 407!
I’ve had no luck looking up oilrig, oil rig, helipad, and heliport in the ā€œWorld Mapā€ search, so far

You can find some near Santa Barbara, CA (KSBA), also in the Gulf of Mexico near LaFourche, LA (KGAO) or near Galveston,TX (KGLS).

Dunno where any are in the base game but a couple of mods for PC adds them in various places. I was messing about in the Cabri on the Santa Barbara rigs yesterday

Thanks for all the tips!
In the meantime, I’ve also found some default rigs in the gulf of Mexico following this Thread:

Took The Cabri for a spin, but the platforms are not yet landable, still a beautiful trip, starting from LaFourche, and heading SSO for like 10min.

I am surprised you say KAVX integrates fine.

As far as I can tell you can’t run both the WU one with Orbx. You get double buildings at the airport and that nice theatre building on the bay. I stick with Orbx’s.

You can delete the MS one in content manager if you click the small square ā€œlistā€ icon next to the box (package) icon then text search KAVX (for example, same for other airports and built-in content).

the default oil rig asset doesn’t have any collision… the guys that did the fs.to addons had to add a custom helipad w collision ( and now start markers ) so you can land on them.

CA and AK do have Helipad starts now, Italy doesn’t.

IDK if the North Sea will be updated ( and looks like the scenery is gone from the site ), since Aerosoft’s North Sea scenery is coming soon with custom rigs - and they’ll surely add start points.

Weird, I don’t have the double buildings issue you mentioned with KAVX and OrbX. With KAVX many users reported that the scenery/airport was exactly the same with both OrbX and MSFS June Update, except of course I gave OrbX some $$$ for it prior to the update, then MS gave it away for free.

Thanks for the tip on how to disable the MS version of the airport. I’ll have to try your tip with my KCGX problem that started my rant in the first place. Although I kinda like the MS implementation of Meigs/KCGX in the 40th Anniversary/SU 11 update.

That is weird! Just goes to show no two PC users share the exact same experience lol.

I definitely had double buildings and they were not in exactly the same place so it looked super funky.

IMO the texturing on the Orbx ones was nicer. More ā€œerosionā€, less perfectly clear and bright. So it looked better and with more small props and details / bushes / cones etc. Does the Asobo freebie have the parked cars and people around the place? I don’t think it had the seating out the back of the ā€œcasual terminal buildingā€ either but maybe I should swap them over again and have a closer look, using the first person mode in the new FS Realistic would be cool here!

I’m away from my desktop until the weekend so I can’t check out the details you pointed out. BTW I run on ultra details but only 1080p rez, my home internet is fast enough that I do not cache anything, if that makes any difference. MSFS is such a beast to run, I’m still tweaking for best performance, and I keep running in many head-scratchers.

Interesting…how does one find the approaches for Meigs and Kai Tak in Navigraph? Their map doesn’t even show the airports, and nothing pops up when typing VHHX or KCGX in the search bar.
