I so want to buy this… I’ve bought so many planes lately that I’m only going to scratch the surface of. Anymore are going to be neglected, in fact the ones I’ve just bought are already getting neglected.
Tomcat… I will get to you.
Bought Top Gun on VHS (from Woolworths) on it’s release and must have watched it at least 20 times back then.
See you soon Tomcat.
It does indeed!
Like the DCS version, it is created with feedback from our SME, and will also continue to improve in the future. Wing Sweep unfortunately is not natively supported in MSFS (but we still got it to work), as some other fighter-specific necessities, and despite some still present shortcomings, which we are not happy about yet, we believe we already got it close and will continue to push to get it even closer.
On that note … today I took off from Nellis but had failed or forgotten to press the Master Reset switch before taxiing out and taking off. Let me tell you, pushing 400 knots at 1,000’ AGL and wings fully extended will give you some serious buffeting, not to mention messed up roll and pitch control. Once I realized the wings hadn’t swept back and remembered to push Master Reset, the winds swept back appropriately and control felt right again.
So whatever you guys cobbled together to work around the sim’s limits is still pretty effective at the basics. (*)
(*) DISCLAIMER: I’m an aerospace engineer by undergraduate education, though a few decades out of date. But I do have a good basic understanding of aerodynamics, flight control and vehicle dynamics.
Good to know ![]()
Thank you for the kind words! Great to hear!
Oh wow ![]()
Thank you!
Quick question please.
Does the Orbx version have viewable weapons ?
EDIT: I did some more reading, including the downloadable manual, and it does ![]()
Fantastic plane but I’m having a few navigation issues. Cannot seem to get the ILS to work or find any MSFS documentation to assist. Picked a TACAN UK airport and it’ll find/range it using the frequency on the approach chart but when I put the TACAN frequency located directly under the ILS frequency on the charts it doesn’t pick it up. The plane is configured as follows for EGYM.
To find it, the TACAN is set to 24X and it’s fine.
For ILS 23 at 20 miles out the TACAN is changed to 44Y.
The mode is set to LDG.
The steering is set to AWL/PCD.
Both VDI and HUD toggle switches are set to ILS.
The ARA-63 panel is on, although I’m unsure of the channel set up. I set it to the ILS frequency of 110.75
Can anyone tell where I’m going wrong? I’ve watched some DCS videos but can’t find anything that is transferable to MSFS.
As far as I understood, the ILS is actually only automated carrier landing. There is no ILS for land based airports.
That kinda makes sense. Do you know why is there a TACAN frequency under the ILS frequency on the charts?
It’s certainly a challenging plane in terms of flight planning. Quite addictive though.
Sorry this is well known but some how I can’t get a clear answer.
Does the aircraft carrier you see in the YouTube videos come with the purchase of the F-14 tomcat or is it a separate add on and if so where can I purchase the aircraft carrier add on?
Thanks
Comes with it. It’s in 4 or 5 different locations and they have their own code. CV60 is the one in the Med.
Thank you
I’m surprised Msfs market place doesn’t mention the carrier or have any photos
Another couple of users here who lose the nose wheel steering after landing despite the indicator being on.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this F-14.
This great F-14 was worth the wait
Whoever does not have this F-14 in their hangar will not be a true Top Gan
This manual is highly recommended, you will not regret it.

Where do a buy it to get version with weapons, and are there any discount if I use DCS F-14 as well? (how to proof I use it etc?). Got it via DCS…
Buy it via the Heatblur website or Orbx for visible weapons. If you already have it in DCS and want the discount, provide Heatblur with proof of purchase and they will email you a discount code once verified.
What a great aircraft! It looks impeccable, it flies great and the featurs are awesome too, especially Jester and the added carriers.
Nice blast from the past too, because I had the VX-4 version as a model kit when I was a kid:
One little thing: is anyone else getting a weird turbine sound that seems to wind up and down in regular intervals? I’m always worried that one of the engines shut down when the winddown sound occurs, but it keeps running.
I heard the same weird sound in the M-346 Master as well.
