Asobo completely quiet about these "CTD"!

Yea they definitely don’t work weekends.

Asobo need to acknowledge a disaster here. The program seems unplayable to me now on PC and I have been playing a LOT. CTDs are becoming more and more common and soooo many things not working or blown away. PC users have been sacrificed on the altar of X Box and deserve an apology. Please give us our sim back.

I did play a lot of games. And on most platforms the game will give an error message instead of just CTDing. With good error correction code a program will never have to CTD. The addon simply shouldn’t have the power to cause this. That’s why Asobo doesn’t give mods direct access to the sim, to prevent these issues.

I’m actually a software developer myself. So I know a little thing or two about this.

Perfect software doesn’t crash!

Software can’t be perfect, so we forgive them. But now they are taking it a bit too far. It’s not functional anymore after this update.

Good mod support for a flight sim is tough work. But they chose to make a flight simulator so they will have to make it work.

Some backwards compatibility should be given i would say, especially if there are updates this often. What if i buy an addon and the developer goes out of business? Like CptEvillian said, this isn’t minecraft, and add-ons are in the best case not some hacky mods.

Then blame the developer? And maybe don’t buy from unknown ones. But in that case the developers should give all right of the code and everything else to Asobo if they care.

The developers work with the sdk provided by Asobo.
They can’t do anything wrong.
Do you understand how making an airport for this sim works? You use the sdk and their documentation. If you follow their instructions how can the developer ever cause the sim to crash?

It’s just a bug in the sim that cause these problems. The development process is not open, it’s highly controlled by Asobo. That’s why I’m saying it their problem.

I think there is a problem in semantics in this discussion, i never heard the term “mods” in the flightsim community previous to the release of FS2020.
Its clear that many pepole have lower expectations to the compatibility to so called “mods” than to addons.

Yes i am aware and this is normal. All developers providing modding tools and third party developers make stuff. After each update they must makes their third party stuff to be compatible with the new update. It’s normal practice and it won’t change.
It’s easy to make it crash. Simply do not update third party addon it may cause crashes. Third parties are responsible for that. I don’t understand, is english not your first language or you just don’t read what i say? Developers won’t be responsible for addon compatibility, that’s not happening and should happen.

Mods and addons is the same. Addons is just a fancier name for paid mods. And if someone makes a paid mod it’s their responsibility to make it compatible with every update.

I won’t put another € into this intentionally broken program until it works again

Same here. Asobo did NOTHING about the constant CTDs in VR for Radeon owners, hardly acknowledged it in fact, same with AMD, just ignored the complaints…for EIGHT MONTHS! Then as soon as the Xbox version is released it’s fixed, what a surprise.

In my opinion if i develop a mod it’s my responsibility to make it work (and i should not charge money for something i would consider a mod), if i develop an add-on then it’s falls into the responsibility of provider of the platform for which i develop for to keep it working as long as i stay within the documented specifications. At least there should be error detection to keep the platform from crashing if something is out of specification. But lets agree to disagree.

but one thing… in other sim platforms if your sim setup + addons is running how you like it, you can leave it that way and never update ever again if you so choose.

the basic philosophy of msfs does not allow that.. updates are forced, so breaking addons is forced.

Yep. It’s all big, dark conspiracy by the developers…to break everything and destroy themselves. :anguished:

If Asobo can’t make an API/SDK that is better than only partly backwards compatible with previous versions, they need to make sure all paid developers and ideally anyone making publicly available add ons has a few weeks early access to new versions, after they have locked, but before the version is pushed out to the general public.

Because this cycle of tons, but not, add ons breaking AND crashing the sim after every update is beyond ludicrous/infuriating.

As a new player to the sim and flying in general, would someone please unpack CTD for me.

Thanks.

Asobo is modifying the SDK without giving the devs a hu. Asobo should tell all devs what in the SDK they change for the next update, so addon updates can be released together with the sim update.

Unfortunately MSFS has no competition, that’s why Asobo (MS) can do whatever they want.

We have to take what we get, after all it’s still far better as everything we had before.

We have to take what we get, after all it’s still far better as everything we had before.

A bold statement! And without any qualifications. Just sayin’…

And that’s ok. Every human being deserves a break. How are they gonna tackle the fixes needed when they have no rest? I rank their need for rest higher than my need to have a hotfix after a few days. I can wait.

All in good time. Put down the pitchforks and wait until the dev update on Thursday, I’m absolutely positive they will tell us more then. It’s been a chaotic week and the devs are going to need some time to get their ducks in a row.
