At what point is the replay feature likely to make it to Xbox?

Really would like to replay my landings on Xbox Series X to help improve my flying but as we all know the replay function is disabled.

Are there plans to bring this feature to Xbox? If so do Asobo have a rough idea of when that’s going to be likely?

Cheers!

Current replay system is not the best tbh. You need to enable dev mode and then enable the replay system as well. It is not really intuitive because you need to manually go in there and push start recording to get the clips you want to get. I like X-Planes approach where they record the entire flight and can playback your flight from start to finish all while being able to switch to outside view, cockpit view, and wing view seamlessly.

They are working on improving it and on the recent June 9 development update in the feedback snapshot you will see there is a picture there that contains the “Replay Functionality Missing” labeled as “Started”. So hopefuily it will get major improvements with a major refreshed and user friendly UI and later on released to both Xbox and PC

:worried:

I think the first step is to mark it “Started”, then they forget about it, or put it on hold.

I’ve also seen items go from “Completed” to “Not Planned”, and I could even explain how that works, but it’s even more annoying than what happened above, so I’ll spare you that.

I really wish we had it on Xbox. Yet, you may try airliner missions add on packs.

They surprisingly have replay feature in missions for Xbox. Of course it is limited to mission’s aircraft ( a20n or 747) and mission flight plan. But you can always change arrival airport in the cockpit.

Once again i want to ask this, how can a third party developer unluck replay feature on Xbox and why can’t we open/unlock and use this for our other flights?

Soon after it makes it to PC?

Stuff in dev mode isn’t available but there IMHO.

Thanks for your replies. I knew it wasn’t in a user friendly state, even on PC. Wasn’t aware there was a replay function available in the airliner missions, strange how a 3rd party Dec had managed to get it going though. Maybe there are limitations to the replay mode in the airliner mode that wouldn’t translate across to flying a long flight in the main game?

Anyway, thanks for you replies. I live in hope!

What surprises me if that it never launched with a replay feature. Seems like a basic requirement for a flight simulator.

They said in the last Q&A (or was it the one before) that although people were banging on (my words:-) ) about replay functionality when it was released in the Dev mode for people to try out they got very little feedback.

as I saw from youtube videos PC and Xbox add-on replay systems seem same. So basicly you decide when to start and stop recording. I usually start around 1000ft. on approach then replay with different cameras while recording to externall HDD.

There were a post I have opened including PILOT / 0083 video and my very first attempts

Btw, I know the sim is currently in a bad situation with SU9 and WU9 but I still can use replay.

I’m going to paint myself as the average user and say I aint touchin nothin cept look at FPS in dev mode.

Using this as a baseline, also I had no idea it was there, may account for some of the lack of feedback.

double facepalm

Edit: To be clear, if there’s a feature only in dev mode, I and most will not touch it, or even know it exists so do not expect any feedback.

I think like @Salem978 mentioned, since the replay is buried in dev mode, it makes it really unintuitive to use it for some people. Maybe that is why they did not receive a lot of feedback on it. I do not know if there a thread out there already mentioning this on how putting in dev mode is a bad idea and not a lot of people were willing to use it out of there, but perhaps if it does not exist one of us can start a wishlist on a better replay system such as the X-Plane one and try to get it up there as much as we can and asking the developers that putting it under a dev mode is not the wisest move to do.

I hope so, many of the items on the snapshot are known to still being worked on such as the Scenery Gateway system, DirectX12, DLSS, etc. So hopefully the devs did looks into the current replay system and realized they could make it better. Here is to hoping it gets a overhaul

On PC, it’s actually not that bad, once you figure out how it works. It has improved substantially in the last couple of updates, particularly being able to properly use chase camera in external/drone views.
Agree it should be better and it should record the entire flight by default, and just delete the recording if user doesn’t save it prior to exiting flight.

At the moment the team doesn’t have any estimate as to when the Replay feature will be out of beta, nor when it will be coming to Xbox. Thought I can assure everyone that it’s still being worked on for a full release at some point in the future.

For context to why it’s taking longer to bring to Xbox, it was discussed a few months back in a developer Q&A. Basically, aside from user interface and user experience, one of the bigger considerations for Xbox is memory and hard drive space. Replay has a tendency to eat up a lot of both. The team is looking into solutions for this issue, and we’ll definitely share more when we can!

The replay feature will use storage space? I hope not. Shouldn’t it be more like a ghost replay, but without the ghosting?

My mistake! My post should have said “Replay” in place of “Video” - I’ve corrected it.

The current beta Replay feature available now is an updated version of the tool that was originally built for the video team. Because of this, the features / functionality are more geared towards this purpose. To my knowledge, it only uses storage space when a recorded or edited sequence is saved, but it does still use a lot of resources for the recording & editing process. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, you can check out features of the Replay tool here to get a better idea of what kind of information needs to be stored during the editing process.

I can’t make any statements or promises on whether or not this will be what the finished version will be like, but we are still gathering feedback on the function. Please do let us know your thoughts on the feature’s current state, and what you might like to see out of a finished version.

Ah, I see, thank you. What I am looking for primarily are flyby/tower views and an easy way to review my landings from different camera angles.

Seems absolutely outlandish that they have like what…10 or so years of making the game and they can’t implement a replay system? We just want to view our landings already

Feedback after it was explicitly requested in the Q&A, was collected in this topic:

Xbox doesn’t have replay. P83 just shows how to record videos and that weird feature in a shady missions addon which only “works” in that addon and is by no means the same as on PC. Not even close.
