Black Square Baron and Bonanza Professional releasing soon

Ahh yes, MSFS can sometimes be like Forest Gump’s box of chocolates: you’re never sure what you are going to get…

Sure.

But to my mind, Blacksquare should write the installer such that it allows us to choose the installation folder. Or they should just offer it as a Marketplace-only product.

Either way, it would save us the headache of dragging folders around and running commands in a CMP window.

SU4 beta? I’m in SU3 and none of the Black Square idents work at all for me. Well maaaaaaybe 1 out of 20 times. It’s odd as other, non-Black Square aircraft with custom idents work fine

100% agree on the lack of choice in the installer. It is just weird not being able to select any install folder.

Yes, SU4 beta.

I tried this to no avail.

What I did discover is the registration number visibility issue appears to be related to specific liveries. I was partial to N924SV, which I’ve never seen show its reg, so I loaded into N6TQ and it shows its registration.

Interestingly, when I load into the Bonanza or the Baron, the Show Dynamic Reg switch is always toggled off. It resets itself to off with every load. That seems odd.

Yep that the problem I see.

I did some more playing around with dynamic reg yesterday and the process I had the most success with, but still not 100%, was to open up the livery screen, clear my custom reg, save and exit, select a different aircraft, save and exit, then go back to the Bonanza/Baron, select the livery I want, then set the custom reg, save and exit, then load the flight. I can’t get it to work every time but this process enabled me to get a custom reg back when it previously would be blank or glitched. I’d also be perfectly happy just using the reg that the liveries come with, but I have yet to get any of those to show up in a flight.

I can confirm that the registration doesn’t show up on that particular livery (with custom reg definitely turned on). That seems to be a different issue than what the custom reg toggle is for, though, because it doesn’t show the usual symptom of a whole part of the livery missing and getting replaced by a completely white or black featureless surface.

Probably a protective measure. There is a high chance of users enabling the custom reg feature, forgetting about the fact that the toggle exists (and why!) and then complaining down the line to Blacksquare that the reg feature doesn’t work.

Thanks for the confirmation.

You’re probably right on the reg switch, too. That makes a ton of sense. Battling user error-related customer service inquiries is always challenging. Better to thwart them ahead of time!

I actually mentioned this resetting and lack of persistence of more than just the dynamic registration a few posts higher up:

What I found with this is, if I start the flight, be it cold and dark or running on the runway, the registration is blank, regardless of the unique registration I entered in the aircraft selection and configuration screen. BUT: if I then open the aircraft’s internal EFB and toggle the dynamic registration back on and hit the “Confirm” button, it then displays the unique registration as entered in the selection screen.

EDIT: Note that I am on SU4 Beta

Hmmm interesting. I was under the impression it was broken in SU4. The text labeling for the option in the tablet is a little vague then I guess because I interpreted it as saying it was waiting for a fix for SU4. I wonder why it worked for me the first time.

According to Black Square, there is an issue with reg no. N924SV which exceeds the maximum allowed length for an URI by one character.

The Baron, Bonanza and all Dukes CTD. All installers send error codes during instal. Installed using BROWSE option, copy and paste = install. However, the CTD happens with GPS unselected (no GPS) or with any combination of GPS. The CTD happens after engine start and when the A/C moves from parking. If I manage to fly the is always a CTD on landing

Have you contacted just flight support? It sounds like there is definitely something wrong with your system. Have you tried all this with an empty community folder too?

yes, have emptied folder and tried that. All other A/C work fine

I took the pressurized Baron up to FL240 yesterday, which brought up a question: should you lean the engine while climbing, then perhaps once again when reaching cruise? It seemed to be struggling a bit at FL200, so I “leaned by ear” to get a better sound, then again at cruise.

Use the EDM to lean. It will show the cylinder temps of each. There are videos on YouTube to show how. You really must have a good ear. What change do you hear in the sound when you feel it sounds right?

Understood about EDM, but at what point(s) do you lean on a long climb like that? Or do you just leave it full rich until FL250?

(I leaned until the engine started to sound like it was starting to sputter, then pushed it forward a bit to get it smooth…works fine in the Comanche when I’m lazy. )

I do not have the Baron but I do have the Bonanza. Additionally, I owned a Cessna T210H in real life. I never used oxygen in the 210 so the highest I ever did a long flight was at 12,500ft. But in essence: after takeoff I set cruise climb power at 25 squared (25" MP, 2,500 RPM) and did not touch any of the engine controls until I levelled off at cruise altitude and reduced power to cruise power. At that point I did normal leaning.

BlackSquare provide excellent manuals, if you have not already done so I strongly suggest you download the appropriate manuals and look up the info. In the Bonanza manual, they suggest cruise climb power setting of 29.6" MP and 2,500 RPM. To me that sounds too high and contrary to everything I learned when flying IRL, but whatever. I still feel more comfortable with 25 25. In any case: they state that you should not lean until you reach either your cruise altitude and reduce power (as I described above) OR you reach the aircraft “critical altitude” - the point at which the turbocharger can no longer provide sea level manifold pressure. In the Bonanza - and in my 210 - that is 25,000 ft.

Ergo: set your climb power and don’t lean until one of the above conditions are met.

FWIW I just did a flight in the A36TC Bonanza and climbed to 18,000 ft. I used 25 25 and did not lean until I leveled off and reduced power.
