Your numbers don’t tell the full story, case in point with the terrain spike issue. This is so bad that’s it’s now stopped me playing the sim since the last update before Christmas - and it’s impacting 100% of customers.
I also don’t think we should be watering down this issue and leaving it for the community to figure out. Don’t forget we paid for a product that does not function as advertised. You can say it’s my system being unstable, and I can say this is the only game/program in my collection behaving this way.
System stability is definitely a potential cause, but not the problem - there is a big difference here.
Asobo has now been collecting information about the CTD for months from the community and the issue has gotten worse, not better. Respect to the customers who have been patient for so long.
Many users like myself never post or vote. This is my first post. I encounter CTD frequently. Sometimes I can complete 5 flights with no issue. Then 1 or 2 CTD in a row. Other sims and games do not have this issue. I am still going thru anything physical PC related but do not see any issues other than 0x0000005c in the error log.
I am going to assume you have already tried testing with AI Traffic disabled?
There has been a trend, involving random CTD like you describe, that seems to be network related.
Nothing definitive at this point and not sure how we can lock it down.
Try disabling network features like Live traffic, Live weather, Multiplayer traffic and see if you attain any stability. If you see any improvement, turn them back on and retest. When you get a CTD, reboot your router and see if stability returns.
My hunch is that occasionally there is a problem with data packets due to either excessive network latency or lost connection.
I only have Live Weather enabled. I will disable it as well. The DSL internet speeds here are not good at all so I use a T-Mobile hot spot to get close to 20MG down. I will try flying a longer distance and report back. Thanks for the reply.
Correct. For the large updates I transported the PC to work as the download spreads are in excess of 400M. For home game play the PC is the only equipment connected to WiFi. I just completed 3 flights less than 100 miles each with no issues. Still like the live weather.
I saw a post yesterday (sorry I don’t have the link) with a workaround for the December sim update CTD problems. All I can say is that this has worked for me 100%. I should add that I was not having CTD’s before the December update so don’t know if it will work for all instances pre December.
I know this sounds crazy but bear with me. Make sure you have MSFS 2020 loaded and any other programs such as Little Navmap etc then open up the Task Manager and disable explorer.exe. I have not had a CTD since applying this “fix” and what’s more I can use live traffic, ATC etc. Once you finish your flight or flights all you have to do is press Ctrl-Alt-Del, open up the Task Manager and re-start explorer.exe. It’s not ideal but it has solved all CTD’s for me. I’m sure someone out there will be able to explain why this should be.
well im not 100% how stable my system is…i do get the occasional bsod boost lock irql but its rare… now ive set manual timings for my ddr 3200…but mfsf ctds guaranteed no matter what i do or change
could be as early as the Asobo logo or as late as a 5min flight…but what i can guarantee is that it will def CDT
ive flown xp11 in VR for several hours and not a single crash
so at this point ive no idea whatsoever
Since I purchased the deluxe version on 18 August, I have had the same consistent issue with CTD’s. When it was first released, I actually made it through a couple of tutorial flights but then it started with the CTD’s. I have followed so many “suggestions” from the Zendesk guys, forum posters, etc. that I am totally frustrated to say the least. I have been a FS flyer since the very first one came out and have never had this issue. As I mentioned in a previous post, all of these bugs should have been worked out before release. A product with Microsoft’s name and reputation on it should not have to be reprogrammed by the user to make it work. Get this thing right or refund money!!!
Just completed a flight over 180 miles with no CTD. I will check to see if explorer.exe is running on the next flight as well. So far so good on disabling anything that may need intensive internet connections.
To me it helps a lot to switch off all the KI Ai and Multiplayer planes. Also all the custom addons.
But this can not be the solution, not to use offered funktions to run smooth. Please Asobo repair this codingcrap. It´s not on the userside that much. I know this avoidingstrategy from other Gamedevelopers, too.
They made the people reinstalling windows and changing this and that with no useable result. Month later…
Ahhhh we found out …this and that…ect. …
I did 5 flights yesterday back to back and the sim didn’t crash once
So I’ve turned off all AI traffic and multiplayer and I went on the FSUIPC7 configure that people were talking about and I put ProvideAIData=No under the general section and that has seemed to fix it! I use IVAO and thankfully I can still see planes of the IVAO users which to be fair makes it more realistic and I’m very happy with how it turned out, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see a single plane
Really frustrating now. My Zendesk-Ticket was answered (and closed) two days later, but only with standard-Instructions that don´t solve the problem. My Rolling Cache is set to off, the Community Folder is empty, AI Traffic is off, FSUIPC deinstalled etc. - Result: CTD again and again some Minutes after starting (ie when switching ATC).
Please fix this obvious core Problem. PLEASE!!
My MSFS Installation was extremely stable before this version, my system is high end (i9-9900k, 64 GB Ram, GTX 2080Ti 11 GB, SSD´s, 100MBit Internet, not overclocked).
MODERATOR EDIT: Removed ping to Asobo.
Please do not ping team members to bring attention to an issue or bug.
If you’d like, try leaving them on, but turning on the option to use generic plane models instead. It may be preferable to turning off all other traffic entirely.
Thanx for the hint, just checked out some shorts flights without azure and any traffic (online, AI and Player), so far for the moment without ctd´s I will continue to try and report my experiences
Hopefully Asobo gets the problem fixed soon - I really want to let the “trial and error time” behind me (greetings from fsx )
