Discussion: Sim Update 3 (1.14.5.0)

Keep telling yourself that, big boy.

You’ve gotta laugh haven’t you @Jokabaku! :joy:

I’m confused, not sure if people know there is a free mod by this group called Working Title that improves the Garmin G3000, so good that MS have hired them
? It’s almost like
 Asobo wouldn’t work on something
that was already being worked on
and now they’re making that content official, which clearly isn’t an overnight decision to hire a whole other group of people.

Really exciting news this Working Title merge, and the Q&A was very interesting. You can see how high their ambition is. They’ve also taken stock and are investing money into a new team who can specialise in content the community want! how awesome is that!!

Had a great flight last night, the latest versions of the TBM performance mod and Working Title G3000 work very well.

Are these the type of performance drops some of you experience since last update?

Just flying from KPAO to KMAE over some plains. No heavy scenery. I don’t know what is going on.
Most of the time the framerate in these circumstances is stable at 60fps with some drops in the high 50’s.

I just think people need to stop expecting miracles immidiately. This is very complex software, it uses systems that no other simulation game uses on the market like live streaming large quantities of data to the end user via Azure.

People have zero patience for things. Sure, it’s rough to love Asobo sometimes, but in the end, I love them and I absolutely cheer for them.

WorkingTitle being hired is testament to their commitment. Stop putting them down when mistakes happen.

I had that stuttering as I was flying south to LOWI last night. It started happening just as a I started to pass through the valleys before turning left to the airport. It lasted for about 10 seconds, then I never saw it again for the rest of the flight.

On other flights it has repeatedly come, and gone. It didn’t do this for any of the previous patches, not that I can recall.

I have not got a clue, it may of been a coincidence

You are not nearly enough patient, my friend. Not enough whatsoever. No one says it’s your fault. Keep reporting issues, they fix them quite quickly. Not only you have nearly montly cycle of updates, but also you receive content for free.

They explained why this happens in their latest Q&A. They make alot of branches which causes confusion but it’s needed for such complex software. They learn as much as we do and Jorg admitted that this update - was his fault. Give the team some break.

Please understand that this game is unlike anything on the market currently. You are getting things that people in 2006 couldn’t even imagine, for measly 60$. You get access to world on a scale never before seen in video game in such astounding detail, streamed to you live, at no additional cost.

But
 it’s a game
?

Genuinely, have you watched the Q&A?

I can’t, except point out that yesterday’s Q&A confirmed that SU3 introduced this problem for people with particular hardware configurations. No mention of what hardware, exactly. They said that they had already identified and corrected two issues in relation to this and are considering a hotfix.

I knew you would say that. I did not compare it to healthcare. LoL

Cept that’s what you’ve did. It’s not software for jetliner or healthcare. It’s out of that league. It’s not something as important, hence I encourage them to even slow down updates if they need to.

It’s hard to treat anything you say seriously after that ‘LoL’.

In the end I am glad that Asobo is working on this and instead of putting them down, look forward to what we will get now.

I understand people’s frustration, and it would be one thing if it had not been addressed. But it has, by Asobo.

There will be bugs with releases. They’re sorry, but there will be.

So
expect them. Then expect them to be fixed. No more surprises.

Yes, this is my fear, too. No Community folder in Xbox or Playstation. I don’t know if this is on Microsoft or Asobos radar, but I have 9118 flight model mods downloads from flightsim.to and I don’t know how many from MSFS 2020 sailplane
I will stay with MSFS 2020 on PC. But I want that console users experience flying in the simulation “realistic within the limitations of the simulation” and not as you can see on e.g. Pilot Emilie’s youtube video https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/YHebHUmShlw that real life pilots can not land in simulation because of “floating”.

Your resorting to attempt condescension will suffice as a statement of concession little fella! :kiss_mark:

Anyone luck with real traffic already ?

Wasn’t this supposed to be the big update that fixes the AI Control Aircraft and the autopilot instruments? There’s even more that’s broken than before! The AI now wanders off the taxiway when going to the runway. The hold short / hold position bug is still there, and the aircraft doesn’t apply brakes and just keeps rolling. The “PEYC” (please expedite your climb) bug is still there as the autopilot doesn’t bring the aircraft to altitude. The AI Control Aircraft feature is now broken again, and it flies off in some random direction after takeoff and doesn’t follow the navigation again. Approaches and landings are completely broken, and the aircraft completely misses the airport and keeps on flying way past it to who-knows-where. The aircraft wants to fly back to Los Angeles after missing an approach in Amsterdam. I’m sorry, but with all of the delays and anticipation for this release, they should have made sure all of these features are working (or not re-broken). Don’t they have a QA department? Don’t they have testers? How does this happen? Beyond frustrating.

Thanks for that unfortunatly it didnt work although the package it got stuck on over and over suddenly downloaded again unfortunatly it has got stuck on another package now on the first bigfile

Cept your post was condescending in attitude. It’s a shame you didn’t see it and then call me out on being condescending.

My key takeaways from the Q&A, in no particular order:

Jorg said they receive a count of every time a crash happens, so they are aware of how many CTD’s are happening. He says it is a huge priority fix for him even though it is a very small % of users.

They are working on performance and aesthetic improvements with photogrammetry, they know London is bad (Jorg says it looks like “the end of days!”) and this is being reworked, bing have a new process in the works to improve their existing PG data. There is a new script to limit the complexity of PG data which will be implemented in future.

Some ATC improvements, namely phraseology, are scheduled for SU4.

“a large portion of the team” is actively working on optimisation for the future, to free up resources. Seb also said that the sim is capable of using 60, 80gb of RAM if windows makes it available but they are working to slim that down. This is a long term project and will be a few months before we see a difference. So much of this is rewriting code that does not add any features, but just helps free up computing power. They are making baby steps which will add up.

They have said they are discussing releasing a hotfix for performance issues with SU3. They are aware that a lot of it is hardware specific.

They are working to word the roadmaps more accurately. It was never intended to release a HUGE update to the Garmins with SU3, it was going to be STARTED with SU3.

They are combining WU4 and SU4 because they have too many branches and are stretched too thin. producing so many builds to output one update per month is contributing to issues. They are increasing their test team and including third party developers in this. That way they can have more specific testing from people who know specific planes well and can find bugs.

Plus so many more nuggets of info that I found valuable. I just applaud them, people really should watch the Q&A - it offers so much insight.

So much of what Jorg says is: We are working as hard as we can. Please. Be. Patient. It is coming, we do not have infinite resources. And so much of their work is taking up a ton of people hours but is on optimisations that will take months to take effect. It will be worth the wait.

I only caught the end of the stream, and have not had a chance to view the whole thing yet, but I did catch that bit.

Which hardware I wonder? Particular make/model of GPU perhaps.
