ETA for Sim Update 2 full release ETA?

About a month ago, Commandos: Origins released much to my excitement having played all of the previous releases. Not a hugely complex game by any stretch of the imagination but still absolutely laden with bugs. Nothing totally game-breaking but enough to cause annoyance and the occasional CTD. One month on from release, they’ve just released an update that has fixed the majority of the issues

Like I say, not a complex game and nothing close to a flight sim, but still packed with bugs all the same which would have been unheard in the past. And being quite simple, the bugs were fixed relatively quickly. But the ease of being able to patch games through online updates seems to reduced the “pass criteria” for releases. But it’s not just in software - every industry in the world is now filled with a “do it quickly” instead of “do it correctly” attitude where unrealistic deadlines are set by people who haven’t a clue of the effort required. They just see a budget set by management with a cost per hour for the staff and that’s where the release date comes from, ready or not

So I’m hopeful that the answer to the question of “when can we see SU2 released?” is “when it is ready”. Because that is what we need to have confidence that the sim is moving in the right direction. And let’s be honest here, we all know that it will get there eventually. It’s just hard to be patient when you’ve spent a lot of money on something that doesn’t work as advertised

@Chewwy94 I think this may be what has a lot of us confused and/or frustrated. Why aren’t you able to share information? Why can’t there be more transparency about the development process and the status of various bugs? Is there some high level direction forbidding more communication? This seemingly tight-lipped communication strategy creates a lot of tension.

The same bugs get posted about over and over because there’s no clear communication about their status. If there are major challenges preventing quick resolution of some bugs I think people would greatly appreciate knowing that.

Overall I think the lack of communication and the lack of explanation about why there’s so little commuinication leads to a feeling that the Asobo/MS team are not participating in good faith and are not taking users’ concerns seriously. That could easily be changed with just a bit more communication.

Here are some concrete suggestions:

  • Maintain a public list of bugs with links to forum bug reports and a priority + status for each
  • For any bugs that go more than a few weeks without progress drop a quick line in the relevant bug report such as “this is blocked by xyz, we hope to get to it after this or that”
  • Weekly post outlining the progress of various things on the bug list along with an ETA for the next patch or a brief explanation of blockers that require delaying a patch

I think if these things were done there would probably be a huge reduction in the volume of posts that moderators need to deal with. I think people would feel good in knowing what the status is, what the priorities are, and what challenges are getting in the way.

There are a ton of valid points/comments in this thread as of late… I hope some of us will submit those questions in the next Dev Q&A.

Probably, they have no good news, -
and bad news are not acceptable for the marketing.

I have honestly lost interest in flight swimming since 2024. I bought into the hype and uninstalled 2020 as soon as 2024 came out. What used to be a distress heaven after work turned into a trouble shooting nightmare trying to reduce stutters and performance regressions. With no improvement on the horizon and communication from the devs non existent I am really struggling to find any motivation to keep going. Can we please get a clear assessment of where we are and what’s realistically on the horizon in the near term? I have no good faith left anymore.

I totally disagree, on the basis that I was sold an unfinished product on the pretention that it was fully functional.

The responsibility to maintain transparency and to update is therefore even more important than if the product was of merchantable quality in the first place.

I have to assume that there’s a reason that it’s delayed and that they’re working on something. That being said, I’m with you that the lack of a release in a while is distressing. The longer they go without an update, the less I’m inclined to believe that they’re working on fixing the ~70 bugs logged in the beta, and the more I’m inclined to believe that something else is wrong. If they fixed a bunch of those bugs, I’d imagine we’d have seen a release by now.

Now, my next question is, do they not have a date yet for the next dev stream because they’re waiting for SU2 to release to tell us what happened?

(By the way, ⅔ of the reason for that post was because I wanted an excuse to post a GIF from my favorite SNL sketch.)

Excellent post, unfortunately it will fall on deaf ears as these very suggestions you’ve said have been made time & time again in the past. We will forever be kept in the dark, communication is poor and it hasn’t improved since the Betas began and it won’t improve in future, it’s their way and it’s the wrong way.

SU2…the patch that never comes.

For those of us who mostly free flight, perhaps a good time to refresh on the release notes for SU2, which is hyper focused on things Career. Just by reading other’s threads since launch, Career mode seems almost big enough a topic to be another game; certainly a game within a flight sim game that is perhaps it’s own world where bugs and fixes are concerned. We might expect that this one may take a little longer than the typical SU where the bill of sale is much leaner?

I agree it is also my point of view. Planty of people play carrier mode now. This people play with only Ms aircraft with are not even close to be good, as we dont have any 3rd party so exeptation are different for that kind of players (much lower I Think). I Lost my hope that MS will primary focus on main problems like vram and so on.

Honest question though… What if to get stability and fix visual problems such as LOD and such, that there HAS to be a decrease in FPS?

Now, I am not saying that is the case. I don’t know. But you are stating that is a make or break issue for you. But what if in order to get the improvements in the sim, there is a decrease in FPS. Surely perhaps lowering traffic density or something else is worth that…

So what? Any comments concerning the layoffs and MSFS would be pure speculation.

There is still normal activity in the Dev Forum and we don’t know if any MSFS employees are affected. No need for alarm bells.

Maybe. At least for most customers it takes too much time to finish that semi-finished sim
to maintain further big interest in msfs 2024. - They lost already too many gamers .
Are they loss-making now ?
One hint about the state of affairs with Asobo might reveal also the Web site of Asobo.

What a shame !

bye, walter

Some SU take longer to release than others. SU10 for 2020 took 10 months to release. The fact that this one is taking a bit is nothing to get in hysteria about. The last day we have seen speculations that MSFS is shutting down, that the Microsoft layoffs might be effecting things, and now speculation that Asobo is in trouble.

This SU is just taking a bit to release. That is all. We don’t need all these posts of doom and gloom sparking hysteria. As someone above said, the dev forums have just as many posts as they normally do. If something serious had happened, that would not be the case. Things are moving forward. SU2 will release. Just have some patience.

It’s not the overall amount of time this beta takes, it is that it has been a couple of weeks at least since we had a new test build. That’s the curious part, I think.

Not quite 2 weeks at 13 days (with a few French holidays so far in SU2).

To be fair, it’s not even that.. it’s the lack of communication and empty dev updates

Wow guys, i am trying last 15 minutes to create a topic. What kind of forum is this? I see many here create topics, but i was not successful at all. Anyway, i wanted to ask about the SU2 update and found this post here.

I am not really up-to-date, but I know SU2 was mentioned to be released mid April. We have now mid May??? I dont go much on forums etc. so i may miss something.

What is going on? Is Asobo still working? Some guy on reddit wrote Asobo stopped the project. I have no clue what is going on. A very strange behavior and no words from Asobo at all. I am thinking to try to get refund, honestly this seems to be a abandoned project.

No update, no communication, no video from Asobo/MSFS, nothing. Dead horse LOL. I was never so confused about a game like this time. I consider myself as an idiot, for buying this game. Maybe i should go back to msfs 2020 if it still works, or get X-Plane. Sad situation.

Welcome aboard! It is a forum based on Trust Levels, and as a new member I don’t believe you can create a new topic just yet. There are a LOT of very helpful topics already out here concerning some of the questions you have raised above. May I suggest reading around a bit before attempting a topic of your own? Perhaps ask some questions and like a few posts and over a short period of time your Trust Level will increase. Reading the Forum Guidelines is also useful, especially when insomnia sets in, which it rarely does given how stimulating this place can be. Cheers and good flying to you!
