ETA for Sim Update 2 full release ETA?

I know what you mean, made the mistake of taking the plunge for the aviator edition at no extra benefit the way the sim is present

And….. he’s gone

I’m not having any of these.

Referring to the community managers? They are only here as volunteers to keep the forums in check. When it comes to development, they don’t know all that much more about what’s going on than we do

Apologies wasn’t aware of that consider me shushed

Hey @Azlog,

That isn’t quite correct. Community Managers are employees and not volunteers, whilst we do also have a group of amazing volunteer moderators who do a tremendous job with helping to keep the MSFS forums in good stead! You can find out more details about our forum team here: Welcome to the Public Forums! - Official Microsoft Flight Simulator / News & Announcements - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

As mentioned earlier on, as soon as we are able to share information with you all please rest assured that we will share it! We know you’re excited to hear more news about what the development team have been hard at work on, especially regarding the release of Sim Update 2 for MSFS 2024, so I’m sorry if we’re unable to share anything specific at this exact moment in time. We’ll make sure to post any major news via the Official Microsoft Flight Simulator > News & Announcements category here on the forums, as well as our website, social media platforms, and our weekly Development Update blog post.

Please know that the Community team have a number of tasks and priorities depending on the current projects we’re working on, so may not be able to respond to you as quickly as you’d hoped! We’ll always do our best to respond in threads when able, and appreciate the feedback given.

Thanks

Sorry to pipe up again, but, this is my point… you state

There isn’t anything regarding development in the dev blog

They should be way more transparent in their communication.

If someone posts an issue or bug, and they say “We are working on it, fixed for next patch/hotfix” there will be no need for al these endless discussions. There is no reason why all these small issues like AI aircraft LODs and missing contrails, non visible aircraft/ lights are not fixed yet. Now we wait months for sim update X to release and pray our reported issue is fixed. And if it’s not fixed pray that it will be fixed 2 months later.

The example of contrails not being visible past 1nm is probably a 5 minute fix, a change of a simple LOD value. In 2020 it is working just fine.

I don’t think that a company needs to keep you informed of what they have in mind after your purchase. You’re not paying a subscription each month.

If people are using volunteer time, coming here writing up lengthy and detailed bug reports, offering input on beta builds, then yes, they deserve some input for their free time effort.

MS promised the blue from the sky for MSFS204, people paid lots of money for it
it came out that 2024 is not really what they promised.
so the purchase is not the end of the responsibilites.

If folks are expecting some compensation in-kind, by way of information other than what is already out there, then perhaps it is time to scale back those efforts, just fly and enjoy the game for what it is? Or wait out the beta branch in SU1? Or enjoy time in 2020 if one still has that installed? Or do something else until more information and improvements present?

It would have been good if the product would have performed as it should at the point of sale, then all this questions would not be needed now several months later…and yes I do expect to be keept informed on my initial investment if the product still underperformes and is in need of patchwork.

Having up-to-date weekly Developer Updates was something that they came up with, not me.

They need to be kept current.

I don’t understand the need to defend their neglecting of them.

If it is too much for them, then they should communicate as much, and alter the name/purpose of those weekly updates.

I’m not defending anyone, just pointing out that since we are not paid for our beta testing and bug reporting, if the time and effort that goes into that is not rewarded with feedback on an acceptable cadence, then perhaps time to give it a rest. How much time and effort we put into improving the product is up to each one of us, if it is not worth it, then why bother?

I don’t understand the binary response/approach here.

Can’t we both put in effort and ask for a little bit in return?

Does it have to boil down to all-in or all-out?

I think it is an individual decision how much one is either in or out or inbetween with the volunteer efforts. If it feels like it is not rewarded or rewarding in some way, why continue?

We aren’t understanding one and other and that is okay. I’ll drop it.

FS2024 was pushed as being an upgrade on FS2020. As Jorg himself said, at release it still contained an awful lot of bugs they are working on.

In the UK at least, we have laws related to selling. Anything sold must be “fit for pupose” and must do “what it says on the tin”. FS2024 fails on both counts.

  • Legally, as a massive company they would wriggle and squirm to get out of their commitments, so any lawsuit is like to fail.

  • Ethically, they should promise to make good the problems with the product (as they actually have promised, sort of), and they should keep us informed of progress towards them meeting their obligations.

Don’t get me wrong, a company has the right to sell their product for whatever price tag they want and it’s up to the consumer if they want to pay or not. With that said, let’s not forget that Asobo marketed MS2024 as a major step forward over MS2020 and as of now, that’s not completely true. They said that on day one most of third party add ons would be compatible while in fact probably MOST of third party add ons were not compatible at launch.

Furthermore, many are ignoring the fact that this sim had a price tag of up to $70-100+. The state in which it launched and current state is not even worth $30. I understand software will always have issues but my lord, most software are at least 95% usable and those remaining issues aren’t enough to ruin user experience.

But when it comes to MS2024, it’s a different animal. Yes, it is what it is, but for those who say we shouldn’t be criticizing Asobo or giving our input is just completely absurd. If we didn’t provide our input and concerns, the sim would be in even more decline.

I guess all I’m saying is, I love the sim but at the same time I feel robbed and just creates further distrust for future Asobo releases.

But hey, that’s just me.
