I would like to see more screenshots of the new vegetation in SU2, and I guess more people would like it too.
Could you beta testers so kindly post them?
Yes, It would be interesting to have views in Iceland or Scotland for example.
Here are two examples of the changes until SU2 Beta 1.4.9.0 in Etosha NP, Namibia. One of this was posted in Bijans Seasons Enhanced thread already.
This is the view from the watchtower of Okaukuejo camp (Etosha NP, Namibia, 19°10’43.35"S, 15°55’8.39"E) through the main gate towards East in real life. Taken on Feb. 28th, 16:30 local time. It’s the end of the rainy season and vegetation is thus fully developed. This image is as close as I can offer to “how it looks from air”. Gives a pretty good impression of the vegetation with grass, some shrubs, low trees (usually <10m height).
Now the comparison (same date and time):
^^^Vanilla FS 2024 SimUpdate 1. Not bad although the trees are a tad oversized imho. The color of the imagery doesn’t fit this time of year but this is out of scope.
^^^Vanilla FS 2024 SimUpdate 2 Beta. As close as it can get, vegetation wise.
Second example from Etosha NP, road from “Gemsbokvlakte” waterhole to “Aus” waterhole, looking east again:
While in SU1 the trees are twice the size of the real Mopane trees there, SU2 goes the other extreme: Instead of lower tress there are now almost no trees any more, not even bushes. Even the dark patch which clearly has trees in reality shows none.
A last close-up comparison of this area, one km further east:
You wouldn’t believe it’s the same spot if the map would not prove it.
I have no airborne photo of this, but the following is a good impression of the open, low “Mopane” forests in this area at the end of raining season:
Another rather striking example of the canges in SU 2 beta (currently 1.4.9.0) are the fields 20 kms west and south of the city of Pandamatenga (down to Sebutu), Botswana.
(^ Coords S18.712, E25.677)
There are a few fields around there which still have trees on them, but for like 95% the issue fixed now.
Same problem at Machu Picchu (in Peru): too many trees, and the site wasn’t well designed from the start.
Hi, that’s some fuel for my hope lamp ![]()
Thanks for these pics!
Regards, Frank
Tree/vegetation detection is still a big issue (SU2 beta). Compared to MSFS2020 it’s a big step back despite being improved in SU2 beta.
Do you have some examples?
I’m concerned that after multiple observations that trees are too dense and all over the world that examples are still being asked for.
Does this imply that a fix can only be implemented example by example?
I fly in central Illinois low and slow, every railroad line is so dense with trees that tracks can’t be seen. The same is true with river courses whether their small streams or large rivers. Trees along the edges of fields, roads and neighborhoods choked with trees.
Does the fix have to be mile by mile, house by house. At this point Asobo doesn’t need more examples they need to fire up a computer and take a look. Is there any real hope that this issue will be resolved?
I have little hope Asobo is going to address this any time soon. I’m waiting for SU2 to go live so Bijan’s Seasons Advanced can be obtained on the marketplace (I’m on Xbox).
I’m not familiar how Asobo tackles this issue. All that I can say is that all the tree issues that I have reported here and even in other threads have been taken care of in SU 2 beta.
Some areas that i haven’t reported still look the same, e.g. Borneo.
So my guess is that it helps to report specific areas which badly need some corrections.
better off purchasing direct from his website.
Can’t, Xbox
This is incredibly widespread. I already lost count of being unable to land on short runways at small airports because there were trees right at the end of the runway. The game absolutely needs generalised rules for where trees are not inserted.
If not yet done I recommend using the MSFS 2024 Airport / Helipad Issue Tracker to report issues with any obstacles on airports.
There are also too many trees in Cusco, Peru. There are even trees inside some houses -_-
Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles photogrammetry barely even visible as it’s basically submerged in trees.
Its sloppy and kills immersion. I fly over the area I live in and cant see any roads, just one large copy/paste forest ![]()
Just another vote in favour of killing the trees ![]()
Wait, what am I saying?
