You should try the chute with the auto camera turned on at least once, though, to see the sequence. The developer did a nice job with how it’s presented.
Yes, that’s a unique touch not seen anywhere else in the sim.
Yeah, my biggest issue in this thing is avoiding overspeed of the flaps. A slight nose down sees you exceeding the 75 kt flap limit in seconds ![]()
The second biggest issue is losing enough speed by the time you cross the threshold to avoid floating off the end of the runway and across state lines. You need to be down under 45 kts as you hit the threshold.
Both of which are apparently realistic. i really like this aircraft.
I have to make sure I fly it in realistic conditions too since the wind can take over.
I’ve started flying the TBM 930 again. Despite being the complete opposite airplane I’m experiencing some of that same ground effect. It feels like the ground is repelling the airplane.
I’m not sure if something in the flight dynamics changed there or I’m just used to driving the G36 into the ground. At least with the Sting I’m expecting it.
My biggest gripe with this otherwise fantastic airplane is the jarring turbulence. If I am honest, it keeps me away from flying it sometimes. It is so abrupt and harsh…
Seeing it’s an ultralight, it’s logical it gets impacted by turbulence a lot more that more heavy aircraft.
Yeah, I’ve flown alot of real airplanes, some large some tiny, nothing is that jarring… Its a sim issue I know, just ruins it a little bit for me. Typically when you are flying a smaller aircraft in convective weather, you do get tossed around but not at such a frequency or so intensely. Other than that gripe, and the lack of original engine sounds, its a great little airplane.
Is that in SU10 beta? or in the current live build.
If it’s SU10 beta, be sure to give that feedback in the weather section of the beta forums.
Might also have something to do with the camera position being locked to the cockpit, so it doesn’t have the same dampening your eyes have (by your head and body moving around, and the brain compensating for it).
Unfortunately I also stopped using the otherwise great Sting S4 because of the constant left/right shaking of the aircaft in most weather conditions. I supsect it’s an Asobo issue as also the windmill replacement addon has the windmills move left/right constantly.
Anyways, it’s a bit annoying in the Sting S4, in other aircraft it’s not so bad. I also fly the CTSL a lot, so the S4 is not my only Ultralight.
Also, I posted in the Beta Forum: in the SU10 beta, the G3X is messed up. Once you reach a waypoint, it changes the route on the display in a weird way.
I hope those two issues get fixed by either Asobo or the aircraft developer.
I dig the turbulence. But it is tricky to make everyone happy. I know I am in an ultralight in SU10.
it’s not turbulence, though.
Look at this video from SU10 Beta.
Especially from 18:22 also look at the Wind Turbines on the ground.
Something is broken in the sim and the S4 reacts to it more extreme than other aircraft.
Also in the video, the G3X bug where the didplayed route changes with each waypoint that is reached.
Then again, it’s a Beta of SU10, so let’s hope both those issues get sorted out until they release it.
Yeah, that’s not right…
Probably the CFD, remember S4 is CFD enabled so it will react to CFD environment, etc. crucial because when thermals are implemented being an ultralight it should react to them, specially with its glide ratio 12:1.
Having said that, that video looks like some stuttering is happening, I think some setting on the user is not right..
Regarding G3X, can you test if this also happens on the VL3 aircraft? if modified the base GS3X to provide some functionalities, so maybe they updated the base G3X and I have to do the same on my side, if it happens on the VL3 too, the nothing I can do to fix it.
Convection turbulence on SU10 can be disabled by setting the wind to “zero” on your weather map by the way, so you can set clear skies, no wind and you should be able to have a smooth ride on the S4.
I am working on the piper 500, I put CFD physics and it get’s tossed about on convection, specially during approaches, so this is not only a thing only for Ultralights, I suspect it is the base sim CFD.. any airplane using modern flight physics with CFD might be suffering same symptoms.
Best,
Raul
That looks really annoying.
However whatever the issue is, I am not seeing it, here is a video I posted above:
Me either,.
The fact on that sample video the windmills are going back and forth with the aircraft in sync, makes me feel is some type of stutter or sim issue..
Convection Turbulence for me is easier on SU10B, as long as you put wind “zero”, I fly mostly like this because I am tweaking flight model variables, etc. and I need nothing influencing the flight on ISA conditions. Since SU10 with ISA + zero wind set on the weather the airplane is not shaking anymore.
S.
With the NX Cub, also the G3X changes the displayed route after reaching waypoints.
Also on that flight the windmills vere going bonkers. The NX Cub however does not sway around so much as the S4, I suppose it is heavier.
I gues that is bad news on the G3X part.
On this video you can see also the NX Cub flies the original GPS Route but after the last waypoint, the G3X has already changed it to something funny.
Well I will now uninstall that Windmill addon, rather have the original windmils again that just move in one direction all the time.
Never seen anything like this flying the Sting or on any of the the wind turbines in the sim world. There must be something else going on with your sim. Did you also experience that with SU9 or only with the SU10 Beta?
Oh wow, that definitely looks like a bug given the turbine behavior. Are you using a weather preset, or any third party tools that could be fighting with the sim for control of the wind? Edit: Just saw that you’re using a windmill addon, I guess that part might explain the windmills at least.
Yesterday i tried the parachute for the first time. Quick questions. I couldnt get into the cockpit anymore just outside camera and almost seemed like the plane was static. Anyone could let me know why?
Ive seen people landing this with parachute on.
It’s an option on the tablet. If you disable the auto camera the airplane remains fully functional. You can even pop open the canopy for the ride down.
