“im the king of the world” flightsim edition
More like “By the marketing people” and the devs had no choice but to play along; hoping against hope that they’d get an opportunity to flesh out these expectations before release.
In most cases devs are good people who HATE releasing gunk, and the marketing types, (and management), are the ones pushing it out, defects be darned!
I hope all the people who got their refunds don’t complain too much when the price rises and they want to get it again…
I can’t see that happening. If it did then they probably would wait for a sale.
I totaly understand what you are aiming for.
But with these amount of issues all over the world (just as example Im not based in UK - im based in switzerland and also test two ISP with same outcome -just that it is mentioned) and also partly acknowledged by the developers it makes no sense to tell people “its all fine for me probably you are this issue.”
And its not just connectivity - Im mean we talking here about airplanes that are not functioning at all. We talking about a career mode who is bugged in every single flight. Im locked in career by a bug right now. And its not just me all epople around me report more or less the same issue.
There is thread here for bug avoidance measures and people confirming every single bug its mentioned.
But still you find a lot of people who blame the users.
I think this behavior is peak ignorance. (and not a single one of these people is officialy collecting bugfix information - so your argument is a bit flawed)
I think people are rightfully angry. When people take time off from work to play the sim and can’t get in or they do get in and they CTD or they do get in and <insert large problem here> happens, they have a right to be upset.
I don’t expect perfection on a complicated piece of software. But I think this has crossed a lot of people’s lines into “this was not ready for release” territory.
I think the other problem is that there were red flags that it wasn’t ready. A tech alpha a month before release with no beta, hundreds of bug reports registered in the dev alpha in one week, developers who weren’t ready to do a live stream, one really bad stream where stuff didn’t work. Seeing the red flags and then the release condition bred distrust.
Could you imagine if Microsoft Office were shipped in a similar condition?
And other people’s anger is from having their Limited Collector’s Edition, the “love letter” to simmers, being sent late, and then not having people’s Game Pass subscriptions sent or not being able to upgrade to Aviator Edition. Or in the case of the US, being told in so many worss, ‘No, your product arriving late is actually right on time. We don’t owe you an apology. Up yours. Enjoy your love letter.’
In my opinion people wanted to believe and MS/Asobo simply covered that gap. After that people started to desire the product right now, and MS/Asobo simply covered that gap again. The result was an early access that involved risks, as any other early access, but those risks just turned real.
You could think that people falled into a marketing trap but… were they really forced to walk directly into it? I mean… red flags were there and many people just ignored them because they were still dazzled by the beauty of the trap itself. On the other hand the studio also saw the same red flags but they also ignored them as they were also dazzled by the beauty of their own trap: the money. Were they forced to walk directly into it as well?
After having seen that payware content in special editions is missing and without having any clue about their release date, or seeing that previously purchased addons don´t work to the point that they had to be disabled (remember… “virtually all addons will work”) we can discuss forever if game was ready or not, or who is right and who is not. In my opinion there´s nothing to discuss here. Users wanted an early access and sellers wanted the money. Now everyone has to deal with the decisions they made.
Nobody won here, nor the users nor the studio, as it will take a lot to recover from the impact of this launch, even if people still don´t see it. This will have consecuences during next months for sure. This is not good at all for the product and that´s for me the only think that really matters here.
Cheers
They promised so much and delivered so little. People feel like they were conned, duped into believing that angels were sent, not a grift.
I held my nose and read a fair amount of the 2024-based threads that existed prior to release. I don’t recall people wanting an early access.
I recall people wanting proper closed and/or open beta test(s).
Where did you get this idea?
People was willing to pay blindly and you can find tons of posts where users declared that they didn´t care about the bugs. They offered a pre-order and people pre-purchased it without having seen more than a few generic trailers and a limited alpha. No official statements warning that payware content in the special editions was not going to be available on release. I mean… I can find all signs of a early access in just those three examples.
You are right when saying that people was not directly asking for an early access but on the other hand many appeared to be fine if that turned to be the case. That´s why I said before that market just provided what users were willing to have: the quick reward.
Cheers
I was one of those people, but I definitely did not do so because I wanted an early access.
I stupidly believed that the sim would be ready. I was wrong.
I got a refund to indicate that I was not interested in an early access product.
Lesson learned.
Sure. And anyone is free to get game or not, and whenever they want. We just have to see this as a leason learnt as you say. This software still has a long way ahead and I always say it has a lot of potential, so it can become a great product indeed. It just needs to follow the correct steps to arrive there.
Cheers
Default 787-10, certainly stutters down the runway and stutters the sim world view. The engine also takes forever to get to 100%
I did not pre-order. In fact I think I went on record as saying I was going to wait to see how the early returns were before buying. I followed along on release day, saw all the download and install issues, and then when I got home that night and saw some slight improvements, I rather embarrassingly threw caution to the wind and purchased.
I incorrectly assumed if I got through download issues, the sim would play fine and I could explore through some early teething issues while silly bugs were patched.
I was naive. I couldn’t even load into the sim until late the following day. When I got in, the controller UI and setup put me in a bad mood. CTD’s started popping up everywhere. I tried for days to see something good and enjoyable, and nearly every flight ended in disaster.
I’m pretty disappointed in myself for not practicing what I preached. I had to escalate with Steam to get a refund, which I finally did receive, since I had “played” for 14 hours That was probably 2 hours of flying and 12 hours of waiting for streamed content, messing with controller setups, and staring at a desktop after a crash.
I won’t touch MSFS2024 at all in 2024, which sounds rather ironic. A serious patch campaign is needed and will conservatively take months to approach my line of “playability” I believe.
My Experience?
- Performance is better than 2020. Then again, no addons yet. But, I think the increase is real.
- I’m not seeing the “less crisp” textures, in general it looks better
- smaller airports look about the same as in 2020. They still have the 80ft tall 30ft wide hangars. That’s ok, 2020 replacement airports seem to work ok. At least the ones I created.
- I had to wait over a week for my code because I trusted Aerosoft. Just as well, I haven’t had a single issue getting into the game. 1 CTD so far because I was confused by the fast freelook my first time in and my graphics card didn’t like my flailing. COMPLETELY crashed my PC as it rebooted itself. Haven’t had a CTD since.
- The library UI is a mess, planes are hidden all over the place inside other planes and incorrectly named, and its search tool doesn’t work. e.g. search for Amphibian. Apparently there aren’t any, even though I have at least 5 available.
- ATC - I don’t know what happened but it’s unusable now. You can’t pick which runway you want to land at, you can’t switch from Touch and go to full stop, it doesn’t even tell you you are about to break an airspace and ask if you want a squawk code. They took all the detail out of it it seems. I think they forgot about using ATC in VFR flight, and thought it would be easier to force everyone to fly IFR. I imagine maybe I was supposed to go into my EFB to say which runway? Maybe if I land at the same airport, I’m not supposed to ever do a full stop landing? Then again, half the problem is my previously towered airport isn’t anymore in 2024. But, even at an uncontrolled airport I have to say whether I’m T&G or full stop.
- None of the airports I fly too have their approach procedures anymore. My home Class D airport lost its Tower that it used to have. And when I put my 2020 airport into Community, where I know I deleted the frequencies and re-added them, it still doesn’t have a tower or ground services or anything. But it still looks good.
- Known bugs that are being fixed (e.g. dim displays)
- I can’t use my main 4K TV PC because I can’t set up my controllers because the font is too big and I can’t read the fields, even though the whole menu takes up less than a third of the screen space
- I thought they were going to get rid of the horrible solid PG Tree things? Nope. The Northeast U.S. Looks even worse now because they now are represented seasonally, and they just look like brown walls surrounding me (check out KCON for instance).
- The Bing imagery has not been updated as they said it would be. It’s still at 2015 to 2020 levels, and airports also not updated (example KFIT)
Other than that, a lot of the planes I’ve tried are basically flyable, though some aren’t because of the dim display issue.
- All of my planes are available to me, unlike many people I’ve talked to. I haven’t loaded any of my Community planes yet, though. I own the Aviator edition.
I’ve only got a total of a few hours of flying probably 10 different planes, all GA piston.
Been spending a lot of time figuring out how to use it.
I pre-ordered MSFS2024 to get the free aircraft. I was always going to buy 2024, so it seemed a no-brainer to place the order.
That said, and after following the drama around Asobo releasing a clearly unfinished and bug-filled product, I won’t be installing MSFS2024 for a couple of months or so. Hopefully Asobo can fix most of the more glaring deficiencies by February?
In the meantime, I’ll continue to enjoy 2020.
I just made my fourth flight in FS 2024 and it was enjoyable. I was very disappointed, but not overly surprised, at the number of issues with the sim. I won’t go into detail on the ones I have encountered so far BUT the sim is at least playable, and I can see that it has a great deal of potential if Microsoft/Asobo listens to the community feedback and fixes the issues that we request fixed. It’s just a shame that it had to start off this way as it was totally preventable. I have switched over from 2020 to 2024 and unless it gets worse, I won’t be looking (or going) back.
