Since SU3 the number of CTD’s during load has increased, even with an empty community folder.
That plus the long time to start up (for me 120 seconds to get to the main menu is about 100 seconds too much) made me decide to park it for a while and instead dedicate to other hobbies but I do keep up with news in the hope the situation improves
No CTDs at all if using internal Intel 620 graphics chip with windows “low power setting”
This solution serves me about 8 - 11 fps in low, low, low settings, but online.
100 % CTDs if try to use Hardware accelleration with my Radeon R7 M440 4Gb.
The software loads to about 80% “blue bar” and quits with no indication ( driver timeout acording to radeon sw)
The only CDTs I had were while trying the USA Tour after the WU 2. I don’t know why, but just after New York the sim was stopping without warning. The issue was resolved with the successive update. Since then I never had any CDT.
The only addons I use at present are the payware Florence Airport, VFR Academy and FSFlying School.
I turned down the AI aircraft to 10% over six weeks ago after constant CTDs.
I have had no CTDs since. I sometimes fly for over three hours and it runs perfectly.
I got that. I was pointing out that you CAN kill all processes with a shut down IF you disable Fast Startup. Also that there are some serious downsides to using that feature.
Both @MichaMMA and myself are agreeing with you. Please read our posts BEFORE correcting us again.
There seems to be a reluctance to shut off “AI Traffic”. I think this stems from a confusion over what it does. “LIVE TRAFFIC” is reproducing the traffic as it is in the real world. If immersion and accuracy is what you desire then this is the one to use. AI traffic just randomly creates filler so that there are more planes. No reflection on reality.
Understandably, the LIVE system is currently being reworked by Asobo to generate a higher number of those real world flights and so currently does not reproduce ALL available flights but at least those you see are real.
AI traffic has been linked to CTDs since release. Either shut it off or turn it down. If your system is not stable then you MUST turn some features off to get that sweet spot dialed in.
I am pretty convinced that the CTD problem is related to the Asobo servers. For me, MSFS will run as stable as can be for days at a time. Then all of a sudden, it CTDs on startup, or on approach to an airport, and even a couple of times after landing. Then days and days of no problems again. Nothing in the program is changed, no add on airports or scenery in the community folder, Temps on my PC are totally normal. I suspect that when the sim wants to download something from the server, and there is a glitch, the sim just quits.
I feel like going thru the forum and starting a new post with all the quotes that read just like this one.
I am gonna get flamed, but it needs to be said again…
if you are a computer guru or are barely acquainted with the power switch, if you have stability issues or CTDs, ELIMINATE ALL OVERCLOCKING!
Most people that say, “I have no overclocking” are not aware that many systems have automatic boost enabled in the bios. There is also additional boost software usually installed when you install your GPU drivers, if you aren’t paying attention. All this needs to be disabled. Mem, GPU, CPU should all be dialed down to base clocks. You can then quickly determine if this is your issue. If it solves the CTDs then you can start turning things up, ONE AT A TIME, until the bad behavior returns. Back up one step and you are good to go.
Not going to solve ALL user’s problems but will fix a lot. If it doesn’t work for you, at least you eliminated a cause, and that IS a win.
I know somebody is typing already to tell me that…
their o/c works on all their other games. Guess what, it doesn’t on this one.
they are not going to sacrifice speed just to make the program run. Guess what, your speed isn’t much good while sitting on the desktop.
they paid $6000 to have the top game system and shouldn’t have to dial it back to compensate for Asobo’s bugs. Guess what, the alternative is to play a different game. If you want to fly, you will adjust.
Mostly in middle of flight.
Occasionally in loading screen back to menu after flight.
Never CTD in loading screen to flight.
98% CTD without message and error log.
2% CTD with log (checked in Event Viewer or Reliability History).
And the log contains something like …Error code 0xc0000005 module CoherentGTJS.dll
~
1660S with 16GB RAM here, MSFS installed in separate SSD.
Installed MSFS since Dec 2020 and I haven’t even reached 50 flight time hours yet because of tired getting CTD (without error log).
Once, CTD has been solved by Increasing Virtual Memory to 32GB. No Live Traffic AI, No multiplayer.
I use some scenery and liveries community mods.
And using LittleNavApp.
But, since UK update, CTD came back again.
My longest flight is just 90-100 minutes, and my averege flight is just 10-30 minutes (low altitude, VFR).
Flying twice a week. Weekend only.
Recently, the sim has begun to hang at the very end when I “Quit to desktop”. Each and every time.
Or so I thought, until I discovered that it’s actually doing something for 10-15 minutes before finally closing down. In task manager I can see that it’s slowly freeing up memory while one thread is maxed out. Kind of annoying, because I’m not 100% sure that it’s safe to kill the process manually.
I’m also not sure if it began before or after SU3, but I’m quite sure it was before the latest hotfix.
Other that this, the sim runs faster than ever and I still get no CTD’s at all. I got the widely reported 3-6 FPS issue when flying into KBOS yesterday, though. That was a first for me.
