How to get Tobii & MSFS 2024 to Work Together

Natively, there are issues with 2024 and Tobii. Attempting to adjust the Tobii settings from within the sim results in a CTD.

In the interim (or possibly forever if you prefer how this works), download opentrack here:

Download opentrack-2023.3.0-win32-setup.exe (opentrack)

You will continue to have the Tobii Experience app running and enabled.

You’re going to need to go in and setup the axis within opentrack to get it setup and working well with Tobii.

I recommend this post to learn how to do that:

You will do all your adjustments within the opentrack interface – ignoring the Tobii in-sim settings.

Good advice. I recently switched to using OpenTrack to control my Tobii sensitivity and settings based on some recommendations here on the forum.

I always found getting a “dead spot” in my view where there was no jitter when trying to hold my view stable was impossible with in sim settings, but I got a bit more of what I was looking for by messing with Open Track filters. Not perfect, but a bit better.

Thanks for this! I’ll give it a shot.

I also created an official bug reporting the Tobii CTDs, so anyone who is having the issue can vote or add any additional details there:

I think there are multiple bug reports open for this. The Mods will need to combine them when they get a chance to come up for air.

The Tobii seems to be completely borked at the minute in 2024.

It doesn’t use head tracking at all, just eye tracking, which is pretty useless in a flight sim (not to mention the world spinning off into infinity when you’re in the main menu).

I can’t get OpenTrack working with it either. When I did the initial setup of the game after first install, I skipped past the “Track IR” settings because I figured I could just use the Tobii, now I can’t find that option anywhere in the settings.

So I’m back to looking around manually. Which really sucks, especially as they’ve put a massive EFB up on the dash and I can’t even look round it! :frowning:

Have you ensured you’re seeing the “octopus” in the opentrack window moving around as you move your head?

If you’re not, then you’re not going to get it to work in-sim.

I noted, that once I had opentrack involved, on the next boot of the sim it automatically added TrackIR as a peripheral.

Yeah, Opentrack is started and tracking my head, but in the sim it’s just tracking my eyes.

Actually, just worked it out, you need to go to the Output options in OT, select “Freetrack 2.0 Enhanced”, then click the hammer next to it and select “Use TrackIR, disabled freetrack”.

I copied that profile from my DCS one, that was using freetrack.

Thanks for the reply, jogged my memory!

But dear god they need to disable the head tracking when zoomed out on the menu, it’s making me queasy!

So glad I could help.

For sure, it is awful. There is even a bug report for this:

Hi, I’ve tried this but I must be doing something wrong. The octopus guy moves, but completely wrong. For example, when I look left or right, the octopus guy moves “up and out” (best way I have of describing it) rather than rotating left and right. Up and down works OK, but left and right is completely broken. Can anyone help?

Did you try some initial mapping settings?

Click Mapping and try these to start (don’t forget the pop-up menu settings for Max Input/Output and/or check box for Asymmetric mapping, as needed):

I haven’t fine-tuned these, but they should get you a baseline. I did not alter the X, Y or Z maps, yet.

Also, make sure you have the settings on the main page of the opentrack interface page set like I have in my OP’s screenshot.

Thank you! I’ll give that a go.

Hi there, it’s definitely better, but I still have an odd problem where the yaw axis brings in a bit of pitch too - when I turn my head left or right, the horizon tilts as well as turning left and right. Sorry to keep asking questions but I’m very new to this!

Do not be sorry. We’re all in this together!

I would try adjusting the X, Y or Z axis to see if you can dial some of that out.

Did you watch the video that I linked in the OP? I am not a video tutorial kind of person, so I’d totally get it if you didn’t. However, it is pretty helpful.

You can skip to about 50% through it as he has a pretty long intro discussing various things before he gets into the setup aspects and how he adjusted his axis mapping values. I think he discusses some issues like you describe.

That’s an awesome attitude - thank you

I’ll check out that video and see what the guy says!

Tobii game hub won’t even register that MSFS24 is installed through the GamePass app because Microsoft restrict permission to the exe. Kinda dumb that files are even restricted on things downloaded from the Xbox apps and Microsoft store

Thanks for your patience / help.

I’m still struggling with this unfortunately though. No matter how many settings I play around with, I just can’t get the camera to not be super sensitive and jittery. I’m wondering if there’s a smoothing option I’m missing but I really can’t see one?

I’m struggling with opentrack, too – partially because I’m wanting to explore the sim, not focus on fine-tuning opentrack.

I really do miss the smoothness of the Tobii in 2020.

Let’s give it time, it will come. In the meantime, we at least have this.

Actually, I think I’ve found the smoothing solution! Under ‘Filter’, choose ‘Accela’. This is the smoothing option.

I think the guy in the video was using 2020 which maybe had smoothing as a default. Anyway, that seems to have fixed it and finally…finally…I can think about enjoying the rest of the sim.

Tobii gave a official workaround, it worked perfect for me Like 2020 version. Go to “Help.tobii.com

Its only a few steps and its working.
